Ces bouchons sont utilisés pour équiper des bouteilles ou récipients analogues (bidons, gourdes, biberons, exécutés en matière plastique ou autre matériau déformable) contenant des boissons et dont l'usage est très répandu chez les pratiquants d'activités sportives ou de plein air. Ils présentent l'avantage de permettre de boire « au goulot », sans utilisation de verres ou de gobelets, ce qui permet une réduction du volume et du poids des objets transportés, en même temps qu'une réduction de la durée consacrée à l'absorption de boissons désaltérantes ou énergétiques en utilisant des moyens classiques (versement de la boisson dans des gobelets ou verres à boire). On comprend que chaque tétine peut être utilisable par rapport aux autres, de façon à permettre de convenir que telle tétine sera réservée à telle personne, de sorte que plusieurs personnes peuvent boire au goulot le liquide contenu dans la bouteille, en utilisant seulement la tétine qui lui est dédiée laquelle ne sera donc pas embouchée par d'autres, ce qui permet de respecter les règles ou recommandations d'hygiène.
