Abstract
The present invention relates to mixtures of sodium salts and their use, more particularly mixtures of sodium bicarbonate and sodium percarbonate and their use for cleaning a container.
Description
The present invention relates to mixtures of sodium salts and their use, more particularly mixtures of sodium bicarbonate and sodium percarbonate and their use for cleaning a container. The idea behind this application is to combine the use of two products available on the market, namely: - sodium bicarbonate: absorber of water and odor - sodium percarbonate: source of active oxygen (detergent and disinfectant). Offering a ready-to-use product, in an appropriate packaging, could offer the consumer an easy solution to deodorize and clean containers containing odorous products and / or likely to release liquids such as garbage cans for example. In addition, thanks to the additional use of a perfume (flagrance), this product could replace the unpleasant odors (for example of waste) by a new flagrance. The product could be poured directly to the bottom of the container (in the trash), or it could be mixed directly with the contents of the container (eg with garbage), in both cases: without the need to rinse and / or repeat the operation too often. Since 1997, a product marketed under the Oxiclean® brand has been available on the market. This product, consisting essentially of a mixture of sodium percarbonate and sodium carbonate, is sold in particular to clean and refresh grinders and waste containers. It is recommended that the contractor place a small amount in the drain and let stand for one hour before rinsing. Such an operation therefore requires some manipulation and moreover, bad odors may remain.
The idea underlying the present invention is to replace the sodium carbonate with sodium bicarbonate so that less manipulation is necessary and that, moreover, the bad odors are suppressed. Therefore, the present invention relates to a mixture containing: - sodium bicarbonate (1 to 99%, preferably 50 to 90%, more preferably 60 to 80% by weight based on the total weight of the mixture) - sodium percarbonate sodium (1 to 99%, preferably 10 to 50%, more preferably 20 to 40% by weight) - possibly a flagrance. The present invention also relates to the use of such a product for cleaning containers such as household or industrial garbage cans. Thanks to sodium bicarbonate, any leakage of liquid will be absorbed by the product (easily if it is located at the bottom of the container like a trash), and the bad smells will be eliminated. In addition, thanks to the use of a flagrance if necessary, any bad odors will even be replaced by a pleasant scent. And finally: the presence of sodium percarbonate (containing active oxygen) provides additional added value: the decomposition of sodium percarbonate, due to the presence of liquids (garbage leaks, hot water ...) will allow release active oxygen known to be effective in disinfection. Preferred flagrances that can be used in the context of the invention are mixtures of natural oils (of plant origin in general) and synthetic materials. Flagrances are generally used, where appropriate, in small amounts generally ranging from 0.001 to 1%, preferably from 0.01 to 0.5% by weight of the mixture. Good results have been obtained with a mixture comprising about 70% by weight of sodium bicarbonate, about 30% by weight of sodium percarbonate and possibly a small amount (usually about 0.05% by weight) of flagrance. Suitable grades of sodium bicarbonate are commercially available under the trademark BICAR® from SOLVAY. Sodium carbonate peroxyhydrate grades - commonly known as sodium percarbonate - particularly suitable are also available from Solvay under the trademark OXYPER®.
