BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a driving wheel suspension device for a vehicle.
It relates more particularly to a drive wheel suspension device for a motor vehicle comprising a hub support having a bore, in which is mounted a hub via a wheel bearing and a transmission shaft carrying the wheel, passing through. the hub being secured in rotation to the latter. The bore also comprises a protective ring, partially closing, at one of these ends, the space between the bore and the drive shaft or the hub, protecting the wheel bearing against foreign substances or materials, such as water. FIGS. 1 and 2, corresponding to application FR 10 55 391, show is a conventional assembly of a wheel suspension pivot 1 forming part of a front running gear of a motor vehicle, which is also called a hub carrier when it is a rear axle of a motor vehicle. The suspension pivot 1 comprises a bore 4 in which is mounted a hub 2 by means of a bearing 3, for example of the ball type. The bearing 3 comprises an outer ring 7 fitted tightly in the bore 4 of the suspension pivot 1 and having an inner ring 8 fitted tightly to a tubular portion 2a of the hub 2 coaxially with the bore 4 The bearing 3 comprises two internal seals 6 mounted on each side between its two outer rings 7 and inner 8. A transmission shaft 5 coaxially crosses the hub 2 and is secured in rotation to this hub. by grooves. The transmission shaft 5 protrudes outside the hub and carries the front wheel, not shown. In this way, the assembly with hub 2 and transmission shaft 5 is rotatably mounted in the suspension pivot 1. The means 2 30 comprises a plate 2b for mounting a brake disc, not shown. The bearing 3 is immobilized axially relative to the pivot 1 and to the transmission shaft 5 by two stops, a stopper b1 constituted by a circlip positioned in a groove of the bore 4 and a stopper b2 constituted by a shoulder of the shaft. The wheel suspension pivot device 1 comprises a ring 9 for protecting the bearing 3 against foreign substances or materials, especially water, and which is arranged near the inner side of the wheel bearing 3 to the opposite of the wheel and in the space E delimited between the bore 4 of the suspension pivot 1 and the transmission shaft 5, concentrically with the latter to limit the passage of Io substances or foreign matter to the wheel bearing 3. The protective ring 9 is a kind of obstruction of the passageway of substances or foreign matter to the wheel bearing 3. The protective ring 9 is fixed by fitting s wandered its external circular peripheral face in the bore 4 of the suspension pivot 1. In addition, the protective ring 9 has its face 9a located opposite the abutment and the bearing 3 which is flat and transverse to the axis longitudinal axis of the transmission shaft 5 and the face 9b of the ring 9 opposite the face 9a and, therefore, the bearing 3, having a frustoconical shape constituting a deflector. The protective ring 9 has in the lower part thereof an orifice 9c passing through the wall of the ring and opening out at the circular edge of the ring 9. The orifice 9c is intended to allow the evacuation, in particular of water which can be present in the space between the inner side of the bearing 3 and the protective ring 9. As more particularly visible in FIG. 2, the protection ring 9 also comprises a radially outer lug 9d, the end of which has a bore 9e in which is engaged a pin 1a of the suspension pivot 1 so as to properly orient the protection ring 9 so that the discharge port 9c is arranged downwardly with respect to FIG 2 and to lock in rotation the ring of 9 such a protective ring 9 is made generally of a relatively rigid plastic material, for example based on polyamide or polypropylene. The difference in material between the protective ring 9 and the suspension pivot 1, that according to the temperature conditions present at these parts, the protective ring 9 and the suspension pivot 1 may have a difference in expansion, making that the protective ring 9 will no longer be held in position in the bore 4 and may move, coming rub against the drive shaft 5, creating noise and may break by damaging the surrounding parts. The object of the invention is to overcome these drawbacks by proposing a driving wheel suspension device for a vehicle comprising a protection ring or a suspension pivot adapted to compensate for sizing variations that may, for example, appear during the expansion of these parts while ensuring the maintenance of the protective ring on the suspension pivot. For this purpose, the invention proposes a driving wheel suspension device for a vehicle, particularly for a motor vehicle, comprising a hub support comprising a bore in which a hub is mounted by means of a wheel bearing. and a transmission shaft carrying the wheel, passing through the hub being secured to the latter in rotation, the bore also comprising a protection ring, partially closing at one of these ends the space between the bore and the transmission shaft or hub, protecting the wheel bearing against foreign substances or materials, such as water, characterized in that a flexible retaining ring is positioned in abutment between the protective ring and the support hub. According to a first characteristic of the invention, the retaining ring 25 is positioned in a groove formed in the protective ring or in the hub support. A spacing is formed between the protection ring and the bore, the retaining ring having a portion projecting from the groove by at least one height corresponding to the spacing, allowing tight fitting of the protective ring into the groove. bore.
According to a second feature of the invention, the portion of the retaining ring projecting from the groove may have different profiles such as a bead, crenellations, lips or teeth. Such a retaining ring is made of a flexible material based on rubber, thermo plastic elastomer or polyurethane. According to a first embodiment of the invention, the retaining ring is formed by overmolding in the groove. According to a second embodiment of the invention, the groove is emerging on one of these lateral sides, the retaining ring being Io fitted into the groove by this side side. On a wall of the groove may be formed fastening tabs adapted to collaborate with the retaining ring to maintain it in the groove. The present invention also relates to a vehicle undercarriage, such as a motor vehicle, comprising a suspension device of each front wheel of the vehicle comprising at least one of the preceding characteristics. Finally, the present invention relates to a vehicle, such as a motor vehicle, comprising a front running gear as defined above. Other characteristics and advantages of the present invention will appear on reading the detailed description below, of an example of non-limiting implementation, with reference to the appended figures in which: FIGS. 1 and 2, already described, represent a conventional mounting of a wheel suspension pivot forming part of a front wheel drive of a motor vehicle; - Figure 3 shows a partial sectional view of the suspension pivot, according to the state of the art as previously presented, comprising a protective ring according to the invention; - Figure 4 shows a perspective view of the protective ring comprising a retaining ring according to the invention; and FIGS. 5a to 5d show partial sectional views of the protective ring comprising different embodiments of the retaining ring according to the invention. 3 shows a partial sectional view of the suspension pivot 1, according to the state of the art as shown, comprising a protective ring 10 according to the invention. As seen above, the suspension pivot 1 comprises a bore 4 in which a hub 2 is mounted via a bearing 3, for example of the ball type. The bearing 3 comprises an outer ring 7 mounted to fit snugly in the bore 4 of the suspension pivot 1 and an inner ring 8 mounted to fit snugly on a tubular portion 2a of the hub 2, coaxially with the bore 4 of the pivot 1. The bearing 3 comprises two internal sealing seals 6 mounted on each side between its two outer rings 7 and inner 8. A transmission shaft 5 coaxially traverses the hub 2 and is secured in rotation to this hub by means of splines. The transmission shaft 5 protrudes outside the hub 2 and carries the front wheel, not shown. In this way, the assembly consisting of the hub 2 and the transmission shaft 5 is rotatably mounted in the suspension pivot 1. The hub 2 comprises a plate for mounting a brake disc, not shown. The bearing 3 is immobilized axially relative to the pivot 1 and the transmission shaft 5 by two stops, a stopper b1 constituted by a circlip positioned in a groove of the bore 4 and a stopper b2 constituted by a shoulder of the transmission shaft 5. The wheel suspension pivot device 1 comprises a ring 10 for protecting the bearing 3 against foreign substances or materials, in particular water, disposed near the inner side of the wheel bearing 3, to the Opposite the wheel and in the space E. The spacing E is defined between the bore 4 of the suspension pivot 1 and the transmission shaft 5, concentrically with the latter, to limit the passage of the substances or materials. foreign to the wheel bearing 3. The protective ring 10 is somehow a way of blocking the passageway of substances or foreign matter to the wheel bearing 3.
The protective ring 10 is fixed by tight fitting of its outer peripheral face 10f in the bore 4 of the suspension pivot 1. The protective ring 10 has a first face 10a which is located opposite the abutment and the bearing 3 and which has a plane surface aligned transversely to the longitudinal axis of the transmission shaft 5. The protection ring 10 has a second face 10b which is opposite to the first face 10a and therefore to the bearing 3, and which has a frustoconical shape constituting a deflector. According to the invention, the outer circular peripheral face 10f of the protective ring 10, has a smaller diameter side portion 10g, is adjacent to the first side 10a, forming a shoulder 10h. A retaining ring 11 is fitted around the end of smaller diameter 10g of the protective ring 10, in lateral support against the shoulder 10h. The end of smaller diameter 10g thus forms a groove 10i, one of whose side walls is open, in which is positioned the retaining ring 11. Thus positioned, the retaining ring 11 serves as a bearing surface between the retaining ring 10 and the inner face of the bore 4 of the suspension pivot 1. The protective ring 10 has an outer diameter a little smaller than the inner diameter of the bore 4 of the suspension pivot 1, leaving a gap between these two pieces. Such a clearance makes it possible to compensate for the differences in expansion between the suspension pivot 1 and the protective ring 10 and also makes it possible to compensate for manufacturing tolerances, without these two parts coming into contact with each other. Conventionally, the suspension pivot 1 is made of metal, generally cast steel or aluminum. The protective ring 10 is generally made of rigid plastic, for example based on polyamide or polypropylene. The retaining ring 11 has a shape adapted to protrude from the peripheral surface 10f of the protective ring 10, as more particularly visible in FIGS. 5a to 5d, allowing the protection ring 10 to remain in position once. fitted in the bore 4 of the suspension pivot 1. To do this, the fixing ring is made of a flexible plastic, such as rubber, thermo plastic elastomer or polyurethane. In addition, such a flexible plastic also allows an absorption of vibrations that can occur at the level of the protective ring 10, for example when foreign bodies such as gravel hit the protective ring 10. Such vibrations, propagating in the suspension pivot 1, create a noise that can be heard by the passengers of the vehicle. Figures 5a to 5d show partial sectional views of the protective ring 10 and the retaining ring 11a to Ii d according to four embodiments of the invention.
In FIG. 5a, a portion 12a of the retaining ring 11a, according to the first embodiment, protrudes from the outer peripheral face 10f of the protective ring 10, forming a bead. In FIG. 5b, a portion 12b of the retaining ring 11b, according to the second embodiment, projects from the outer peripheral face 10f of the protective ring 10, forming a series of crenellations. In Figure 5c, a portion 12c of the retaining ring 11c, according to the third embodiment, projects from the outer peripheral face 10f of the protective ring 10, forming a series of lips. In FIG. 5d, a portion 12d of the retaining ring 11d, according to the fourth embodiment, protrudes from the outer peripheral face 10f of the protective ring 10, forming a series of teeth. Of course the examples implemented above mentioned are not limiting in nature and further details and improvements can be made to the retaining ring according to the invention, without departing from the scope of the invention. Thus, depending on the shape of the retaining ring, the groove may have different profiles. In the case of a retaining ring made by overmoulding, the groove does not necessarily have one of these side walls opening, to lock laterally on both sides the retaining ring in position. The portion of the retaining ring projecting from the groove, can as previously present different profiles in the form of bead, crenellations, lips or teeth. In the case of a retaining ring made by overmoulding, it is performed discontinuously, following the course of the groove. If in the embodiment Io presented the groove is formed in the protective ring, it is also possible to make such a groove having a retaining ring in the suspension pivot, along the surface of the bore, facing of the protection ring.
