Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a cover with a pull tab comprising a support layer and a sealing layer, the connection between the support layer and the sealing layer being removable. The invention relates to a method of manufacturing this lid and its use.
Lids of the type indicated above are particularly suitable for closing packages such as food containers. Usually food containers, such as yoghurt pots or coffee cream jars, are closed with single-lens covers such as aluminum foil. Container side, they are provided with a sealing layer welded to the edge of the container to close it. When the container is opened, it is necessary to overcome the sealing forces between the lid and the edge of the container. For this, the user grasps the gripping tab whose lid is provided and removes the lid completely or partially from the edge of the container. This opening process goes smoothly when the packaged product is relatively firm, while a packaged liquid product slightly spills. It has therefore been necessary to develop double layer covers comprising a support layer and a sealing layer. If these two layers are separated from each other, it is possible for example to provide an opening for drinking which facilitates the removal of the packaged product. For this, auxiliary accessories, such as straws, are necessary. If these ancillary accessories are not available, or if they are undesirable, as in the case of pots of cream for coffee, the collection of the packaged product is particularly difficult. The removal of the cream for coffee is also complicated by the high internal pressure due to the storage, and subsequent transport, of these relatively small containers, so that when opened the packaged product is flows freely under the effect of sudden pressure drop. The invention provides a solution here. According to the invention, there is provided a cover with a gripping tab consisting of a support layer and a sealing layer, the support layer being bonded to the sealing layer removably characterized in that the layer at least in the region of the gripping tongue, sealing lines comprise lines of weakness delimiting one or more zones with an increased sealing resistance. Alternatively, the area with increased sealing strength has the shape of a domed area.
According to a particular embodiment, the convex zone also has cruciform lines of weakness. According to another particular embodiment, the curved zone also has circular lines of weakness.
According to another variant the zone with an increased sealing resistance has the shape of a circular segment. According to another variant the zone with an increased sealing resistance is a zone delimited by teeth. The invention also proposes a method of manufacturing a lid described above which essentially comprises the following steps: a) production of a composite comprising a support layer and a sealing layer, b) application of marks pressing on the support layer for sizing the shape of the cover and the gripping tab, c) making lines of weakness in the laser sealing layer and d) stamping the covers. According to a particular embodiment, for the manufacture of a composite according to step a), polar materials and for the sealing layer of the apolar materials are used for the support layer. According to another particular embodiment, for the manufacture of a composite according to step a), non-polar materials and, for the sealing layer, polar materials are used for the support layer. Advantageously, the increase in the penetration depth of the laser rays allows the realization of lines of weakness in the form of wedge-shaped incisions in the sealing layer. The invention also proposes the use of a lid according to the invention described above for sealing food containers, the sealing layer being welded to the edge of the container and the support layer with the gripping tongue 30 being rotated. to the user so that the user will open the food container with the pull tab, the sealing layer tearing along the lines of weakness but adhering however in the area with increased sealing strength through the formation of a pressure barrier at the edge of the container.
According to a particular embodiment, after the opening of the container, a complete detachment of the lid of the container edge is made possible. According to another particular embodiment, after the initiation of the opening process, the food container opens partially.
The present invention is here explained in more detail with the aid of an exemplary embodiment of the invention and with the aid of possible embodiments, see FIGS. 1 to 8. FIG. 1 shows a container 14 closed with a possible embodiment of the lid 1. Figs. 2, 3, 4 and 5 show other possible embodiments for the cover according to the invention. Fig. 6 shows a cross section of a possible embodiment of the lid 1 and FIGS. 7 and 8 show a top view of possible shapes for the lid 1. To manufacture the lid 1 according to the invention, a composite 1 'formed of a support layer 3 and a sealing layer is produced by coextrusion. 4, see Fig. 6. To allow separation (peelability) between the support layer 3 and the sealing layer 4, materials incompatible with one another are used. For example, for the support layer 3, polar materials will be used, whereas the sealing layer 4 will be made of non-polar materials. Naturally, it is also possible to use apolar materials for the support layer 3, the sealing layer 4 in this case being made of polar materials.
The aforementioned incompatibility between the support layer 3, on the one hand, and the sealing layer 4, on the other hand, must at least exist at the level of the surface in contact with the adjacent layer. Thus the cover 1 according to the invention has, in one embodiment constituted by way of example of a support layer 3 of monomaterial, for example aluminum, a thickness of about 40 m. The support layer 3 therefore has a polar character at its surface because it contains aluminum oxide. In this embodiment mentioned by way of example, the sealing layer 4 must consequently have an apolar character. For this purpose, apolar polymers, such as polyethylene or polypropylene, will be used. These polymers also have the advantage of softening under the sealing conditions, that is to say during the application of pressure and at high temperature, and to form, on cooling, an adhesive bond with the edge of the container. see Fig. 1.
From the precomposite produced by coextrusion for the manufacture of the lid 1 according to the invention, pressure marks are then applied to the support layer 3 for sizing, on the one hand, of the shape of the lid and, on the other hand, of the shape of the lid. the gripping tab 2.
It is then possible to mark the lines of weakness lines 5, 9 and 11 on the sealing layer 4. This then facilitates the realization of lines of weakness using laser radiation, the depth of penetration of the rays being thus directed in order to make material cuts in the form of wedge-shaped cuts in the sealing layer 4, see in this regard FIG. 6. The lids 1, like that of FIG. 1, from the composite which is in the form of sheets. These lids 1 will then be used to seal food containers 14 like yoghurt pots or pots of cream for coffee. In order to seal these food containers, a seal is firstly made between the sealing layer 4 and the edge of the container 15. In this configuration, the support layer 3, which may, if appropriate, comprise decorative printed patterns, is turned to the user, so that it can use the gripping tab 2 as an accessory to easily open the container 14. If the user then grasps the gripping tab 2 and removes it from the sealing layer 4 by exerting a force, the sealing layer tears along the lines of weakness 5, 9 and 11 so that one or more areas with an increased sealing resistance are formed at the edge 15 of the container 14. In accordance in the diagram of FIG. 1, the area with increased sealing strength forms a curved area 6 which acts as a pressure barrier.
As the removal of the cream for the coffee is complicated in particular because of the high internal pressure due to the storage, and subsequent transport, of these containers usually relatively small, the convex zone 6 serves, as indicated on FIG. 1, a pressure barrier that counteracts the sudden pressure drop, so that it is possible to prevent the packaged liquid product from unintentionally spilling. To increase the pressure drop, it is possible, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, to achieve additional lines of weakness at the zones with increased sealing strength. This occurs at the convex zone 6, for example in the form of lines of weakness 7, whereas, as shown in FIG. 3, the additional pressure drop can be counteracted by the circular line of weakness 8. The cruciform lines of weakness 7, like the circular lines of weakness 8, can be traced during the aforementioned laser treatment. If necessary, this can be done by varying the power of the laser. Another possible embodiment of an area with an increased sealing strength, subsequently forming a pressure barrier, is shown in FIG. 4. According to FIG. 4, lines of weakness 9 made with laser beams are, after detachment at least part of the support layer 3 of the sealing layer 4, a circular segment 10 acting as a pressure barrier. Fig. 5 shows another embodiment for a possible development of the zone with an increased sealing resistance, the tooth-shaped weakness lines 11 being made with laser beams and forming, after partial detachment of the support layer 3 from the sealing 4, a pressure barrier in the form of a zone 12 delimited by a toothing. The zones with an increased sealing resistance proposed in accordance with the invention are there to constitute the pressure barrier mentioned at least at the level of the gripping tongue 2. Naturally, it is also possible to provide these zones generally along the line. Circular delimitation of the lid. A possible embodiment in this regard is shown in FIG. 7 on which it can be seen that the circular line 6 'represents a zone with an additional increased sealing resistance corresponding to the outline of the edge of the container. However, as often the user does not wish to completely remove the lid 1, FIG. 8 shows another possible development. It can be seen from this diagram that there is no line of weakness in the zone 13 situated in front of the gripping tongue 2 so that it is not necessary to completely remove the lid in this zone after having engaged the opening process. This solution is particularly suitable when it comes to seals containers of a certain size, such as yogurt pots, with the lid according to the invention.
In summary, it can be said that the lid according to the invention represents a practical packaging solution for the user insofar as the partial areas with increased sealing resistance achieved by laser beams constitute, from the partial opening of the packaging, pressure barriers that counteract the sudden drop in pressure during opening, so that it is possible to prevent the packaged product from spilling unintentionally.
