Description

APPAREIL DE PROTECTION D'UN NAVIRE CONTRE L'ABORDAGE APPARATUS FOR PROTECTING A SHIP AGAINST COLLISION

The present invention relates to an apparatus for protecting a ship against boarding by ladder and / or sending grapple. Maritime piracy is developing significantly in some maritime regions. In general, pirates try to seize boats and their crews to negotiate ransoms with insurance companies. In order to seize ships, especially commercial vessels, the pirates use means known for centuries, namely they approach the boat using speed boats or boats low on the water, then they launch grabs and / or ladders along the edges of the boat to board. Once on board, the pirates use their weapons to neutralize the unarmed crew and seize the boat.

Also, the first objective of a crew is to prevent the pirates from getting on the boat by trying to pick up the grabs, pushing the ladders or dropping the pirates often with the help of water pumps for the fight against fire. This solution has the disadvantage of requiring a lot of personnel to be effective, which is in the opposite logic of reduction of the size of the crews that has known for several years the maritime transport of goods. It would therefore be advantageous to obtain a vessel protection device against collision which requires little staff for its implementation while being reasonably cost-effective in proportion to the risk of piracy and its consequences. To solve one or more of the aforementioned drawbacks, a device for protecting a ship against collision by ladder and / or sending grapple, comprises: a device for attaching to the guardrail of the ship; A movable flap pivoting about an axis close to the upper edge of the railing such that the movable flap operates between a rest position and a return position, the rest position being such that the flap is directed towards the the interior of the ship and the return position being such that the flap is directed towards the outside of the ship, said flap passing from the rest position to the return position under the effect of the pulling of a grab hook attached to said flap mobile, said return position being further such that the grapple is detached from said movable flap. By proposing a mechanism which escapes by construction under the effect of traction of the grapples, this makes it possible to automate a large part of the protection, and thus to allow the crew not to expose themselves.

Particular features or embodiments, usable alone or in combination, are: • the apparatus further comprises a fixed panel covering the railing from its highest point to the upper edge of a wall plate of the ship; • It further comprises a return device adapted to return said movable flap to the rest position when the grapple has unhooked said movable flap. • The return device comprises a spring or an elastic strap attached at one end to the movable flap and at its other end to the fixed panel. • The rest position is such that a grapple launched from outside the ship, over the guardrail, preferably clings to said movable flap. • It comprises a connecting surface between the fixed panel and the pivot axis of the movable flap, said connecting surface being inclined outwardly of the ship. The invention will be better understood on reading the description which follows, given solely by way of example, and with reference to the appended figures in which: FIG. 1 is a diagrammatic section of a ship's plating comprising a device according to one embodiment of the invention, the apparatus being in the rest position; - Figure 2 and Figure 3 are schematic sections of the same plating element as Figure 1, wherein the apparatus is in different operating positions. Referring to Figure 1, a ship plating is shown in cross section. The bridge 1 joins the wall 3. According to the ships, the railing consists of solid sheets in the extension of the wall or by a system of batayoles or railings as shown in Figure 1. In the latter configuration, the upper plates 9 of the wall 3 protrude a few tens of centimeters from the bridge, the guardrail being slightly set back from the vertical of the wall. An apparatus 13 is fixed on the rail 7 and the bulwark 5. It comprises a rigid fixed panel 15, without asperity, covering the entire height of the guardrail to the edge of the wall 3.

On the upper part of the apparatus 13 is fixed a movable flap 17 via a hinge 19 of horizontal axis. A return device 21 and a stop 23 hold the movable flap 17 in a rest position in which the movable flap is oriented towards the inside of the ship. The return device is formed of an elastic member such as a spring or an elastic strap attached directly or via a cable between the fixed part of the apparatus or guardrail and the movable flap. The connection 25 between the fixed part and the movable flap forms a continuous curve of this fixed part towards the mobile flap, a downward curve towards the outside of the ship.

The operation of the apparatus will be explained in connection with FIGS. 1, 2 and 3. In a first aspect, the protection against the installation of scale is provided by the fixed part which, by creating a seamless connection between the top of the wall 9 and the rail 7, prevents the upper hooks of a ladder cling to the top of the wall 9. Similarly, the form of connection prevents the ladder from clinging to the rail 7. In a second aspect, the protection against grapples is provided by the movable flap 17. Thus, FIG. 1, when the grapple 33 is launched over the rail 7, it will catch on the outer edge of the movable flap 17 when the pirate will hang on the rope 35 of the grapple 33 to start boarding. Following the traction exerted by the grapple, Figure 2, the return device 21 being designed to provide a low resistance, the movable flap 17 will pivot around the hinge 19 to the outside of the ship. Arrived at the end of pivoting, Figure 3, in a return position, the movable flap 17 no longer offers grapple grip that falls. No longer being pulled towards the outside, the mobile flap returns to its rest position under the effect of the return device 21. It should be noted that the fixed panel 15 also has the function of preventing the grapple 33 from clinging to an outside roughness of the railing. The invention has been illustrated and described in detail in the drawings and the foregoing description. This must be considered as illustrative and given by way of example and not as limiting the invention to this description alone. Many alternative embodiments are possible. In particular, it should be noted that depending on the shape of the guardrail, the fixed panel 15 may be unnecessary. This will be particularly the case when the guardrail is replaced by a bulwark jail. In the claims, the word comprising does not exclude other elements and the indefinite article one / one does not exclude a plurality.
