Description

The invention relates to a method of manufacturing a lining assembly, for interior of a motor vehicle. These trim assemblies are used in the passenger compartment of motor vehicles as a door panel, for example.

They comprise a front face intended to be viewed by the occupants of the vehicle. These trim assemblies comprise a rigid insert on which is disposed a decorative multilayer element. This multilayer element partially covers the insert and has a certain thickness.

The multilayer element comprises a substrate, a skin or a tissue and a layer of foam disposed between the substrate and the skin. After manufacture of the multilayer element, the latter has a section of material or slice material at its periphery which is visible. The different layers of materials composing the multilayer element are visible. Known methods for assembling the multilayer element on the insert consist of overmoulding the multilayer element in the insert or to display the latter on the insert. The edges at the periphery of the multilayer element can then be cut and cauterized to improve the visual impact of the liner assembly and decrease the peelability of the edges. These operations are intended to make less visible the material wafer at the periphery of the multilayer element. The trim assembly can then be assembled from the front or rear of a door panel. Nevertheless, the visual effect obtained with the methods of the prior art is not totally satisfactory. In addition, these processes consume a lot of material during cutting. The object of the invention is to provide a manufacturing method which consumes less material and which makes it possible to obtain a set of lining without a visible material slice, thus improving the visual effect. For this purpose, the invention relates to a method of manufacturing a lining assembly, for interior of a motor vehicle. The packing assembly comprises a multilayer element and an insert, said multilayer element having a substrate, a skin and a foam layer disposed between said substrate and said skin, said method further comprising the steps of: a) manufacturing said multilayer element, b) positioning said multilayer element in a mold cavity, c) injecting a fluid material, intended to form said insert, into the mold cavity, in order to overmold said multilayer element in said insert. According to the invention: said step a) comprises an operation of joining the edges of said skin with the edges of said substrate, providing a layer of foam encapsulated by said skin and said substrate, said multilayer element having a junction line, and said junction line is covered by said fluid material in step c) to mask said junction line by said insert. The invention makes it possible to obtain a trim assembly without a multilayer element edge or a visible material wafer. The peel sensitivity is also eliminated or reduced. The invention makes it possible to consume less material by eliminating the cutting step at the periphery of the multilayer element. The cauterization step is also eliminated. A more economical process involving fewer steps and fewer tools is obtained. With this method, it is possible to reduce the cost per piece by 20%, compared to the methods of the prior art. In various possible embodiments, the present invention also relates to the following features which may be considered in isolation or in all their technically possible combinations and each bring specific advantages: the joining operation consists of a welding operation, said line wherein the joining operation is a bonding operation, said joining line being a bonding line, step a comprises the steps of: manufacturing said skin, making said substrate positioning said skin and said substrate in a molding mold, and injecting a fluid material between said skin and said substrate to form a foam layer, the operation of joining the edges of said skin with the edges of said substrate being carried out after said step of injecting fluid material.

The invention will be described in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: - Figure 1 shows a packing assembly obtained with the method of the invention; - Figure 2 shows a door panel comprising this trim assembly. According to a possible embodiment of the invention, the method of manufacturing a lining assembly for a motor vehicle interior comprises a step a) of manufacturing a multilayer element 1.

As illustrated in FIG. 1, this multilayer element 1 comprises a substrate 5, a skin 4 and a layer of foam 3 placed between the substrate 5 and the skin 4. By skin is meant a layer of flexible material that may be fabric, leather, or a polymer (PVC for example). The foam is a polymer which may be polyurethane, for example.

Substrate 5 is a rigid polymer substrate. The skin 4 of the multilayer element 1 comprises a front face intended to be visualized by the occupants of the vehicle. The prior art documents WO 2006/058992 and US 20060082175 describe possible methods for obtaining this multilayer element 1.

This method comprises a first step of manufacturing the skin 4 and the substrate 5. Next, the skin 4 is disposed on a mold part. The substrate 5 is disposed on the other mold part. The two parts of the mold are brought together and a fluid material, intended to form a cellular material or a foam 3, is then injected into the mold, between the skin 4 and the rigid substrate 5. After cooling and solidification of the foam 3, then demolding, the multilayer element 1 is obtained which has a section of material or slice material at its periphery. Each layer of material (skin, foam and substrate) has edges or a border around the periphery of the multilayer element 1. The step a) of manufacturing the multilayer element 1 comprises an operation for joining the edges of the skin 4 with the edges of the substrate 5, providing a layer of foam 3 encapsulated by the skin 4 and the substrate 5.

The multilayer element 1 then has a junction line 6 or binding. This junction line 6 is advantageously thin, that is to say less than 2 mm, preferably less than 1 mm. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the joining operation 5 consists of a welding operation. The junction line 6 is then a weld line. The materials making up the skin 4 and the substrate 5 are compatible to allow their welding. They can be the same or different. These are advantageously polymers.

In another possible embodiment of the invention, the joining operation consists of a gluing operation. The junction line 6 is then a bond line. The junction line 6 completely surrounds the multilayer element 1. The substrate 5 may be flat or have any shape.

L'insert 2 est un insert de panneau de porte qui est directement surmoulé sur l'élément multicouche 1.The method of manufacturing a packing assembly also comprises a step b) of positioning the multilayer element 1 in a mold cavity, and a step c) of injecting a fluid material, intended to form an insert 2, in the mold cavity, in order to overmold the multilayer element 1 in the insert 2, in step c), the junction line 6 is covered by the fluid material in order to mask the junction line 6 by the insert 2. Advantageously, the junction line 6 is entirely covered by the fluid material, all around the multilayer element 1. A lining assembly is obtained without a visible junction line, as shown in FIG. Figure 2 shows a door panel comprising this trim assembly. The insert 2 is a door panel insert which is directly overmolded on the multilayer element 1.

Thus, the process according to the invention makes it possible to consume less material and to obtain a set of lining without a visible material wafer, improving the visual and decorative effect of the lining assembly. This process is simpler and involves fewer steps. It is more economical.
