Description
The present invention relates to a mechanized massage device for creating a skin fold or dome in order to mobilize the superficial and deep skin planes, as well as the connective tissues.
This technique of mobilization historically practiced by masseurs physiotherapists, is called palpate-rolling and it is part of the 4 or 5 major massage maneuver taught in training institutes in physiotherapy.
It consists of pinching the skin between the thumb, forefinger and middle finger to obtain a skin fold. The pressure exerted between the fingers is controlled to generate the least possible discomfort, but it must be sufficient to maintain this plane in a gesture of sliding that moves the fold formed on the surface of the skin. There are several mechanized systems capable of reproducing this "palpate-rolling" gesture. These systems generally consist of a vacuum generating unit and a suction chamber formed between two parallel rollers. The rollers are applied to the skin and when the depression settles in the chamber, the skin is sucked into it thereby forming a skin fold between the two rollers. The rollers are then moved to the surface of the skin, dragging with them the fold that forms there.
On some systems, the rollers are motorized to facilitate their movement. On other systems, the suction chamber and its rollers are replaced by a suction bell which is inspired by traditional Chinese medicine cups and to facilitate the movement of this bell, beads can be placed on its lip in contact with the skin. In the current state of the art, the skin fold formed between the rollers is sometimes uncomfortable or painful. This problem does not exist with bell systems, but in both configurations, the tissues are mobilized only once during the passage of the suction chamber on the skin. It is therefore essential to make very many passages on the area to be treated to obtain the desired therapeutic effect. The device according to the invention makes it possible to remedy these drawbacks and makes it possible to perform a painless and rapid tissue mobilization massage. The originality of this invention is that it makes it possible to reduce the number of passages on the same cutaneous zone by a factor of between 5 and 40; it allows to inhibit the uncomfortable or painful sensations caused by the pinching of the skin between the rollers; and that it also facilitates the movement of the suction chamber on the skin. The massage device consists of a bell-shaped central vacuum chamber (2) without rollers and in which a variable vacuum controlled by an electropneumatic system is created. The vacuum is obtained by a vacuum pump connected to the device by a suitable pipe. This bell is connected to a low voltage electric motor (9) on the axis of which is mounted a worm (7) which transmits the rotation of the motor to a helical gear (6) integral with an axis (8). A crankshaft (5) is also secured to the same axis and a link (4) free in rotation is located on the eccentric of the crankshaft. The other end of the rod is implanted free rotation on the top of the bell (2). The rotational movement of the motor is thus transformed into alternative angular oscillations which are applied to the bell around its axis of rotation. The angle of oscillation is controlled to eliminate any risk of exaggerated tissue stretching.
This bell and the mechanism are implanted in an ergonomic camber (12) which allows it to be gripped. The interface between the bell + mechanism assembly and the grip camber is provided by silentblocs so that the oscillations and vibrations of this assembly are not transmitted to the hand of the therapist. The lip (1) is applied to the skin of the body area to be massaged and the depression that is created in the bell sucks the skin into it. The height of the dome which is thus created is proportional to the depression applied in the bell.
This suction plate more or less strong skin on the lip (1) and the wall of the bell (2), and this dome of skin becomes imperfectly integral with the bell. The level of depression is adjusted so that the skin is collabée in the bell without constricting it to allow its easy movement. The oscillation movement of the bell is transmitted to the skin which is collabée on the lip and the wall of this bell by the depression. The dome of skin and all of the tissues that it contains are therefore firstly subjected to a vertical stretch by contribution to the base of this dome and secondly to an alternating rotational stretching and limited in angular amplitude of the fact oscillations of the bell. The oscillation frequency can be modified by modifying the rotational speed of the motor and it is adjusted firstly to the saturation frequency of the afferent nerves and secondly to the number of stretches (in alternative rotation) desired on a motor. given period. According to the particular embodiments or use: the energy to perform these functions can be pneumatic, magnetic or electric. - The lip of the bell can be removed without tools to facilitate cleaning. the bell may have different dimensions in order to adapt it to the topography of the zone to be treated. The bell may take any simple or complex shape and any depth provided that it performs the function claimed. the oscillation movement of the bell can be obtained by any system or any assembly of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic or magnetic systems.
