Abstract

Description

1 bed base for supporting a mattress of a bed or the like

The present invention relates to a bed base for supporting a mattress of a bed or the like. More specifically, the invention relates to a bed base which is provided with transverse slats for the support of the mattress.

It is known that a good bed base for the support of the mattress must meet two requirements, if one wants to get a comfortable sleep.

In the first place, the box spring must be able to easily adapt to the body configuration of the person who lies there.

In addition, it is important to ensure that the bed base provides sufficient ventilation.

Different types of bed bases are known for supporting a mattress.

A first known type of such a bed base is what is known as a slatted frame, by which resilient slats are arranged parallel to each other with a regular spacing from one to the other on a subframe by means of rubber stoppers.

On resilient battens, a foam or latex mattress or other flexible material is usually provided.

The elastic slats individually fold under the weight of the person lying on the mattress and the caps provide additional flexibility. However, a drawback associated with this type of known bed base lies in the fact that the freedom of movement of the slats is relatively limited, since the plugs allow only a limited movement relative to the underlying rigid frame.

As a result, the mattress generally fits only to a limited extent to the person lying on it, which, as already mentioned, is a disadvantage for comfort when sleeping. An additional drawback associated with this type of known bed base lies in the fact that the rubber stoppers tend to wear out and become less and less flexible over the years. Another type of bed base known for the support of a mattress, so-called boxspring (= a box with coil springs), is often used in hotel beds and the like.

Such boxspring is in fact a kind of under-mattress in which metal spring elements, be it Bonnell springs or pocket springs, are provided.

On such a boxspring, one usually provides a spring mattress. A first disadvantage associated with such a boxspring lies again in the limited adaptation of the bed base to the silhouette of the person who is lying on the mattress.

In addition, it is a rather closed system filled with springs, which sometimes represents a problem for obtaining the required ventilation.

The object of the present invention is to provide a solution to one or more of the above-mentioned and other disadvantages.

To this end, the present invention relates to a bed base for supporting a mattress of a bed or the like, which is provided with transverse slats and through which the transverse slats are inserted with their two ends into two sections. continuous longitudinal members made of a flexible material.

In such a bed base according to the invention, the transverse slats or the elastic slats 5 are, so to speak, fixed at their ends in two continuous flexible longitudinal sections.

A first advantage related to a bed base according to the invention lies in the fact that the way in which the slats are fixed is much simpler than that in force in the known slatted bedsteads, as well with regard to the realization as the mounting.

Indeed, it is sufficient to provide longitudinal profiles having an exact configuration to be able to easily insert the transverse slats, which can be implemented simply by means of profiling adapted longitudinal profiles, so that for mounting, it suffices to bring the ends of the transverse slats into this profiling.

In addition, it is no longer necessary to make complicated systems using plugs.

In addition, according to the invention, the slats of the bed base are supported by longitudinal profiles made of a flexible material, which gives greater freedom of movement to the slats. For this purpose, in accordance with a preferred embodiment of a bed base according to the invention, the above-mentioned longitudinal sections are also preferably made from a polyether or other flexible foam.

The advantage of a bed base of this type for supporting a mattress according to the invention lies in the fact that the shape of the slats can very easily match that of a person who is lying on the mattress. In any case, the freedom of movement of the flexible longitudinal profile slats of this type is much greater than that of the known slats.

This is because, in known slats, freedom of movement is determined by the limited flexibility and also by the limited dimensions of the plugs with which they are attached to a rigid subframe, whereas in the case of A bed base according to the invention, the flexible longitudinal profiles can undergo deformation, as well over the entire length between the successive slats that over the entire thickness of the longitudinal sections on which the transverse slats are supported with their ends.

According to a preferred embodiment of a bed base according to the invention, the longitudinal sections have, at the ends of the transverse slats, the shape of a beam in which recesses are provided on a longitudinal side in such a way that we can drown the ends of the transverse slats.

Longitudinal profiles of this type are easy to make and the mounting of the slats can be implemented simply by embedding them in the longitudinal sections.

According to an even more preferred embodiment of a bed base according to the invention, each transverse batten is furthermore applied to each of its two ends, between a pair of longitudinal profiles.

In this case, a longitudinal section of each pair of longitudinal profiles at one end of the transverse slats, hereinafter referred to as the longitudinal L-shaped profile of the pair of longitudinal profiles at the end concerned. , most preferably has a predominantly L-shaped cross-section.

In such an embodiment of a bed base according to the invention, each end of a transverse batten is preferably arranged between a first leg of the longitudinal L-shaped section and the other longitudinal section of the pair of longitudinal sections. at the relevant end of the transverse lath, while the second leg of the aforementioned L-shaped longitudinal section covers the leading end of the corresponding transverse lath.

Such an embodiment of the bed base according to the invention offers the advantage that the pairs of longitudinal profiles at both ends of a transverse slat always have a simple shape and can be easily realized.

In addition, the mounting of the transverse slats in the longitudinal sections is extremely simple, since it is sufficient to place the transverse slats in the recesses made in the aforementioned longitudinal sections before being able to cover the transverse slats with the longitudinal profiles in L.

An additional advantage of this embodiment of a bed base according to the invention lies in the fact that the transverse slats, more specifically the head ends of the transverse slats, are completely protected by the longitudinal L-shaped profiles, so that a user perceives little if any at all the presence of the slats and that eliminates for example any risk for the user to hit the head ends of the slats or to be injured.

Preferably, in such an embodiment of a bed base according to the invention, the longitudinal L-shaped section of a pair of longitudinal profiles at one end of a transverse slat is made from a more flexible material than that the other longitudinal profile of the pair of longitudinal profiles at the corresponding end of the transverse lath.

Indeed, the longitudinal L-shaped profiles are oriented towards the person on the mattress, while the other longitudinal profiles are designed for the actual support of the transverse slats. According to an even more preferred embodiment of a bed base according to the invention, the longitudinal profiles and / or the additional longitudinal profiles form the frame of a sandwich structure, this sandwich structure being, by far, also preferably flexible or mobile.

Preferably, one of the sides of the sandwich structure is formed by a flexible covering layer which is made of, for example, a fabric having a crosslinked structure to provide good air permeability.

Most preferably, there is provided over the cover layer also a liner which is preferably made of a breathable fabric.

The other side of the sandwich structure may be formed by at least one rigid panel on which, along two opposite edges of this rigid panel, is fixed respectively a longitudinal section over at least a part of its length. Alternatively, in accordance with the invention, the other aforesaid side of the sandwich structure may be formed by a plurality of rigid panels which are interconnected in articulation and on which, along two opposite edges of each rigid panel, comes to attach respectively a longitudinal section over at least a portion of its length.

An advantage of the aforementioned embodiments of a bed base according to the invention lies in the fact that the transverse slats, which serve to support a person, are encapsulated in a sandwich structure.

In this case, the side on which is applied a flexible covering layer comprising a lining will be oriented towards the mattress on which a person can extend, so that we offer an optimal support and pleasantly felt the person lying down.

The other side of the sandwich structure, comprising one or more rigid panels, ensures that the longitudinal sections which, according to the invention, are made to be, by far preferred, relatively flexible (e.g. while producing them from a polyether), nevertheless offer sufficient support, so that the deformation of the longitudinal sections remains in a certain way within the limits.

In other words, the combination of flexible materials and stiffer materials provides an optimal mix, on the one hand a great aptitude for deformation to offer a good adaptability to a person lying down and on the other hand 'sufficient support of the person.

The bed base 1 according to the invention shown in Figure 1 is a bed base 1 which can be used for the support of the mattress or cushions of a bed or the like.

The bed base 1 is provided for this purpose, in the same way as the slatted frame known, transverse slats 2. A characteristic of such a bed base 1 according to the invention lies in the fact that these transverse slats 2 are embedded, with their two ends 3, in two continuous longitudinal sections 4, said longitudinal sections 4 being made of a flexible material. In the embodiment shown in FIG. 1, at the head ends 5 of the bed base 1, parallel to the transverse slats 2 and transversely to the longitudinal profiles 4, longitudinal profiles 6 are also provided, only one being shown in FIG. 1, more precisely the transverse section 6 at the foot of the bed base 1.

According to a preferred embodiment of a bed base 1 according to the invention, the aforementioned longitudinal sections 4 and possibly also the transverse sections 6 are made from a polyether or alternatively from another flexible foam .

In the example shown in Figure 1, the longitudinal sections 4 take the form of a beam in which is provided on a longitudinal side 7 recesses to be able to drown the ends 3 of the transverse slats 2. Also, as can be see in Figure 2, the longitudinal sections 4 accordingly have, at the aforementioned side 7, a more or less toothed section 9 through which the transverse slats 2 are placed in the recesses 8 between the teeth 10 of the toothed section 9.

Of course, the recesses 8 in the longitudinal sections 4 preferably take on a shape which is complementary to the shape of the transverse slats 2. For example, the transverse slats 2 may have a rectangular cross-section and the recesses 8 between the teeth 10 then, in the best case, also have a rectangular shape with similar dimensions. Furthermore, the transverse slats 2 may have a more rounded cross section which is for example of more oval configuration. In this case, the recesses 8 also take, in the best case, a complementary shape with a cross section having a similar rounding. It is clear that a bed base 1 as shown in Figure 1 is extremely simple construction and is easy to achieve.

In addition, it can be seen that the transverse slats 2 of a bed base 1 of this type according to the invention have a freedom of movement far superior to that of known slatted frames, since they are inserted into longitudinal profiles 4 made of a flexible material, so that a bed frame 1 fits much better to the silhouette of the person lying there.

FIGS. 3 and 4 show a number of possible subsequent adaptations to which the longitudinal profiles 4 can be subjected which make it possible to further increase the capacity of adaptation of the bed base 1 to the silhouette of a person.

In this case, the longitudinal sections 4, on the longitudinal side 11 opposite the aforementioned longitudinal side 7 with the toothed profile 9, are provided with comfort zones 12 in which the sections in question are more flexible than elsewhere. In the case of FIG. 4, such a comfort zone or such a more flexible zone 12 is formed by a longitudinal profile 4 on the longitudinal side 11 which must also be provided with recesses 13 to obtain a toothed profile 14 on this 11. The recesses 8 and 13 may for example be obtained starting from a beam-shaped element, the recesses 8 and 13 being made subsequently by performing a milling elimination.

Alternatively, it is nevertheless not excluded to directly form the teeth 9 and 14 in the longitudinal sections 4 by injection of a foam into a suitable mold or the like. In the example shown in FIG. 4, for obtaining a comfort zone 12, another technique is used by which a part 15 of a longitudinal section 4 is made from another material having properties elastics different from those of the remaining parts 16 of the longitudinal sections 4.

Of course, it is not excluded, according to the invention, to provide a longitudinal section 4 which has several comfort zones 12 of this type. An advantage associated with comfort zones 12 of this type in longitudinal profiles 4 lies in the fact that mobility and flexibility can be adapted according to the expected load.

For example, it may be desirable to insert comfort zones 12 at the location where the laying of the hips or shoulders of a person who is lying down is normally provided by means of a mattress. , on the bed base 1.

In this way, improved support is obtained at desired locations via good adaptation of the bed base 1 to the supine person. Yet another alternative embodiment of a bed base 1 according to the invention is illustrated with reference to FIGS. 5 and 6.

In this embodiment, the transverse slats 2, at each of their two ends 3, each time apply between a pair of longitudinal sections 4 and 17.

The longitudinal profile 17 of each pair of longitudinal sections 4 and 17 at one end 3 of the transverse slats 2 has in this case a predominantly L-shaped cross-section 18 and will hereinafter be referred to as the longitudinal L-shaped profile. 17 of the pair of longitudinal sections 4 and 17.

The other longitudinal section 4 of each pair of longitudinal sections 4 and 17 is made, in this case, with a toothed profile 9, as can be seen in the embodiment of FIG. 2; however, embodiments by which features of all the foregoing embodiments are combined, as well as other embodiments, are of course not excluded in accordance with the invention.

In one embodiment according to FIGS. 5 and 6, the aim is to mount each end 3 of a transverse batten 2 between a first branch 19 of the longitudinal L-shaped section 17 and the other longitudinal section 4 of the pair of longitudinal sections 4 and 17 at the corresponding end 3 of the transverse lath 2.

In addition, the second branch 20 of the longitudinal L-shaped section 17 is intended to cover the head ends 21 at the aforementioned ends 3 of the corresponding transverse slats 2.

It is clear that, in this way, the ends 3, and certainly the ends of the head 21 of the transverse slats 2, are completely encapsulated in the pair of longitudinal sections 4 and 17, so that a person can not collide with said ends 3, get hurt or the like.

Preferably, the longitudinal L-shaped section 17 of a pair of longitudinal profiles 4 and 17 at one end 3 of a transverse slat 2 is made of a more flexible material than that of the other longitudinal section 4 of the pair of profiles. longitudinal members 4 and 17 at the relevant end 3 of the transverse lath 2.

Indeed, the longitudinal section L 17 comes to be arranged, during normal use, on the upper side of the bed base 1, in other words, on the side of the bed frame 1 which is directed towards the person lying, so that this profile longitudinally 17 adapts, more preferably, sufficiently elastically to the load that applies.

The longitudinal sections 4 support the transverse slats 2 and must therefore exhibit a slightly less flexible behavior, since they are intended for the actual support of the person. Furthermore, they must still be flexible enough to allow a good adaptability of the bed frame 1 to the load it supports.

As was also the case in the embodiment shown in FIGS. 5 and 6, the first branch 19 of the longitudinal L-section 17 of each pair of longitudinal sections 4 and 17 is preferably provided at one end 3 transverse slats 2, with a chamfer 22.

Usually, the transverse slats 2 have a curved shape to be able to withstand the load better and it is also advantageous, in accordance with the invention, to provide the first branch 19 of the longitudinal L-shaped sections 17 with a chamfer 22 which is complementary to this curved shape of the transverse slats 2.

The side facing the lying person, longitudinal L-shaped profiles 17, thus forms, in conjunction with the transverse slats 2, a predominantly flat surface on which, without any problem, a mattress or other material can be deposited. recovery, on which or on which a person can lie down.

To facilitate the placement of the transverse slats 2 in the recesses 8 and to improve the support of the transverse slats 2 in these recesses 8, it is possible to make use of one of the alternative embodiments, as shown in FIGS. 7 to 10 included.

In the embodiment of Figures 7 and 8 for example, the transverse slats 2 10 are provided at each of their ends 3, a continuous elastic band 23 with which the different transverse slats 2 are interconnected.

In this embodiment, the continuous elastic band 23 also serves as support for the transverse slats 2 in the recesses 8; however, in accordance with the invention, this feature is not strictly necessary.

In an embodiment as shown in FIGS. 7 and 8, the continuous elastic band 23 preferably has a width which corresponds to the width of the longitudinal sections 4, so that a good support is obtained and that the load is distributed evenly over the support surface available in the recesses 8.

In addition, most preferably, the elastic band 23 is preformed so that it matches the shape of the upper surface of the longitudinal sections 4 2 5 so as to fit precisely in the recesses 8.

An advantage of this embodiment of a bed base 1 according to the invention lies in the fact that the transverse slats 2 can be arranged all together at once in the longitudinal sections 4, which greatly facilitates assembly. In this way, the load emanating from the transverse slats 2 is uniformly distributed over the entire side 7 of the longitudinal sections 4 in which the tooth profile is provided.

This feature can be very useful in cases in which the longitudinal profiles 4 have great flexibility.

Such a continuous elastic band 23 may also have as its object a general deformation of the longitudinal sections 4 and they make it possible to prevent deformation of the longitudinal sections 4 only at the location of the recesses 8.

FIGS. 9 and 10 show another variant embodiment in which the transverse slats 2 are provided at each of their ends 3 with a separate lath support 24 made of synthetic material with which they come to rest in the corresponding recesses 8 in the longitudinal sections 4.

The batten supports 24 and the recesses 8 are of course made in a complementary manner. In addition, in the example shown, both the slats supports 24 and the recesses 8 have a special shape.

For example, the slat supports 24 of FIG. 9 are made primarily from three different parts each having a function of their own.

Thus, a first portion 25 is provided whose shape makes it possible to insert one end 3 of a transverse slat 2. This first part 25 of the slat support is of course used to come to be arranged by above the end 3 of such a transverse batten 2 by snapping or sliding.

A second portion 26 forms a kind of wing 26 whose surface 27 extends more or less parallel to the surface 28 of the first portion 25 in which the transverse batten 2 must be supported.

The surface 27 of this second portion 26 is, by far preferred, slightly larger than the support surface 28 of the first portion 25.

The two parts 25 and 26 are connected to each other by means of a vertical intermediate portion 29 which extends perpendicularly to the flange 26, and also to the support surface 28 of the first portion 25. Of course, the longitudinal profiles 4 must be provided with recesses 8 in which these slats supports 24 can be slid with wing profile 26.

An advantage of these slat supports 24 lies in the fact that the load exerted on the transverse slats 2, which must be transferred to an underlying structure via the support ends 3 of these transverse slats 2, is better distributed on the recesses 8 and on the longitudinal sections 4.

Indeed, the surface of the batten support 24 which participates in this load transfer is much larger than in the previous cases, thanks to the presence of the support wing 26.

By seeking a good balance between the area available for the transfer of force in these ends 3 and the elasticity of the longitudinal sections 4, one can obtain an optimal behavior of the bed base 1 on the one hand with regard to the required support and on the other hand as regards sufficient adaptability. 15

Of course, this example represents only one of the many possible solutions.

Preferably, the longitudinal sections 4 and 17 of each pair of longitudinal profiles 4 and 17 at each corresponding end 3 of the transverse slats 2 are glued to one another in pairs, so that a resistant assembly is obtained.

One advantage which has not yet been mentioned and which is provided by such embodiments with longitudinal L-shaped sections 17, lies in the fact that these longitudinal L-shaped sections 17 make it impossible for the transverse slats 2 to move in a transverse direction relative to the longitudinal sections 4.

Thus, it prevents the fact that a transverse lath 2 during such lateral displacement springs out of a longitudinal section 4 or even, when an even greater lateral displacement of this type at a 3 end loses completely its support in the recesses 8 of a longitudinal profile 4.

An alternative solution to the aforementioned problem that could arise during a lateral displacement of the transverse slats 2 with respect to the longitudinal profiles 4 lies in adapting the transverse slats 2.

FIG. 11 shows a conventional transverse lath by which the thickness D of the transverse lath 2 hardly varies over the length of the transverse lath 2. When the thickness D of the transverse laths 2 is reduced to each of their ends 3 to obtain a thickness D ', it is possible to prevent a lateral displacement of the transverse slats 2 in the recesses 8.

As shown in FIG. 12, a stop 30 is preferably formed at the ends 3 of the transverse slats 2, which allows the ends 3 to bear against the corresponding longitudinal section 4. Thus, each transverse batten 2 is blocked by the stop 30 between the longitudinal sections 4, so that a lateral displacement in both directions is impossible.

FIG. 13 shows again a cutaway version of a bed base 1 according to the invention, in which the bed base 1 is this time made in the form of a kind of sandwich structure 31 whose longitudinal sections 4, the transverse sections 6 and the transverse slats 2 form the frame.

A side 32 of the sandwich structure 31, more precisely the side 32 with which the sandwich structure 31 comes to rest, during normal use, on a substrate, and which therefore represents, during normal use the lower side 32 of the sandwich structure 31, in such an embodiment, is preferably made of at least one rigid panel 33.

In this case, according to the invention, preferably along the two opposite edges of the rigid panel 33, in this case along the longitudinal sides 34 of the rigid panel 33, is fixed a longitudinal profile 4 on at least part of its length. In the example shown in FIG. 13, the longitudinal sections 4 are fixed along the entire length of the side 11 to the panel 33.

Such a rigid panel 33 can be made for example from a fiber board, for example from what is called an Oriented Strand Board (OSB). An additional feature of a bed base 1 according to the embodiment of Fig. 13 is that one side of the sandwich structure 31, which is biased for the actual support of a mattress or the like, and which, in normal use, represents the upper side 34 of the sandwich structure 31, is provided with a flexible cover layer 35.

This covering layer 35 preferably represents a textile having a good air permeability and can represent for this purpose, for example a textile having a crosslinked structure.

In the example shown in FIG. 13, it is furthermore provided, over the covering layer 35, a lining 36.

This lining 36 is preferably also made of an air permeable textile in order to obtain good air transport through the bed base 1, so that the internal structure of the bed base 1 is sufficiently ventilated.

In the example shown in FIG. 13, the lining 36 covers the entire upper side 34 of the sandwich structure 3 and a portion of the lower side 32 of the sandwich structure 3. In this case, the liner 36 is applied all around. longitudinal profiles 4 and is fixed to the lower side 32 of the rigid panel 33.

FIG. 14 shows, in a manner analogous to that of FIG. 13, an alternative embodiment of a bed base 1 according to the invention, whereby a certain improvement is obtained.

More specifically, in this embodiment, transverse slats 2 are used which, as was also the case in FIG. 12, are provided with a stop 30 at their ends 3 in order to prevent lateral movement of the slats. 2. FIG. 15 illustrates the manner in which the mounting of the transverse slats 2 can be implemented in the recesses 8 of the longitudinal sections 4 by making use of a fabric strip in the form of a strap 37 which interconnects the different transverse slats 2. In this way, all the transverse slats 2 of a bed base 1 can be inserted at once in the recesses 8.

Finally, in Figure 16, there is shown an even more sophisticated version of the bed base 1 according to the invention.

In this case, the basic shape of the bed base 1 is made with a pair of longitudinal sections 4 and 17 as revealed with reference to FIGS. 5 and 6.

This basic form is nevertheless configured to obtain a sandwich structure 33 having characteristics similar to those of the embodiments of Figures 13 to 15 inclusive; in this case, the sandwich structure 33 is made to be flexible or mobile and is applied to an underlying rigid frame 38.

The movable sandwich structure 33 again has a frame which is made this time using two pairs of flexible longitudinal profiles 4 and 17 on both sides of the transverse slats 2, cross sections 6 at the head and foot 5 of the bed frame 1, and transverse slats 2 themselves.

However, contrary to what was the case in the embodiments of FIGS. 13 to 15 inclusive, the lower side 32 of the sandwich structure 31 is not formed by a single rigid panel 33, but by several rigid panels 33, a single panel 33 being visible in the cutaway drawing in perspective of Figure 16, the various rigid panels 33 being interconnected in articulation.

Along the two opposite longitudinal sides of each rigid panel 33 and at the ends 3 of the transverse slats 2, a pair of flexible longitudinal profiles 4 and 17 are respectively fixed at least over part of their length. The flexible longitudinal profiles 4 and 17 can in this case be made continuously since they do not necessarily prevent, thanks to their flexibility, the articulation movement between the rigid panels 33. In a more rigid embodiment of the longitudinal profiles, it is nevertheless, it is also quite possible to produce the longitudinal profiles 4 and 17 as separate elements which are placed one behind the other in the longitudinal direction, for example elements which correspond to the length of the rigid panels individual 33.
