Volant de véhicule et procédé d'assemblage d'un tel volantVehicle steering wheel and method of assembling such a steering wheel
The present invention relates to a vehicle steering wheel, a method of assembling such a steering wheel and a vehicle equipped with such a steering wheel. On a vehicle, particularly a motor vehicle, the orientation of the wheels is controlled by the driver with a steering wheel. EP-A-1 145 10 933 discloses a steering wheel comprising an armature, two foam elements and two coatings. The two foam members enclose the frame and each liner constitutes a clip that engages a groove formed in the first foam member and a groove of the second foam member. The mass of the wheel thus produced is important. In addition, the lines of contact between the two coatings create, on the inner periphery and the outer periphery of the steering wheel, unsightly lines of separation. The object of the invention is to remedy the drawbacks mentioned above by proposing a vehicle steering wheel. The invention further provides a lighter steering wheel than those of the prior art and lower cost. To this end, the present invention relates to a vehicle steering wheel comprising a frame, an outer shell and an inner shell, the frame taking the form of a ring, the outer shell taking the form of a ring comprising an open groove. towards the front of the vehicle and of which at least one of the sidewalls comprises first holding means and second holding means, the ring of the armature being designed to fit in the groove and to be maintained by the first means. and the inner shell being in the form of a ring gear and being adapted to fit in the groove so as to take the ring of the frame sandwiched between the outer shell and the inner shell and so that the inner shell is held by the second holding means.
Advantageously, the section of the ring of the armature is in U whose bottom is oriented toward the rear of the vehicle and whose amounts extend towards the front of the vehicle, and the or each first holding means takes the form of a recess extending inwardly of the groove and each amount of U-shaped engages behind one of the recesses. Advantageously, when the outer shell is provided with radial arm portions and the inner shell is provided with radial arm portions, the or each recess continues along these portions. Advantageously, the second holding means are constituted by one or more protuberances which project inside the groove and the crown comprises, for the or each protrusion, a recess of complementary shape to the shape of the protrusion considered. Advantageously, when the outer shell is provided with radial arm portions and the inner shell is provided with radial arm portions, the or each protrusion continues along these portions. Advantageously, the outer shell and the inner shell are expanded polypropylene. The invention also relates to a motor vehicle equipped with a steering wheel according to one of the preceding variants. The invention also relates to a method of assembling a vehicle steering wheel comprising: a step of providing a frame in the form of a ring, a step of providing an outer shell in the form of a a ring comprising an open groove towards the front of the vehicle and of which at least one of the sidewalls comprises first holding means and second holding means, - a step of providing an inner shell in the form of a crown, a step of placing the ring of the armature in said groove so as to be held by the first holding means, - a step of placing the crown in said groove so as to take the ring of the frame sandwiched between the outer shell and the inner shell and so that the inner shell 15 is held by the second holding means. The invention will be better understood, and other objects, features, details and advantages thereof will become more clearly apparent from the following explanatory description, with reference to the accompanying diagrammatic drawings, given solely for purposes of explanation. example illustrating an embodiment of the invention and in which: - Figure 1 is an exploded view of a steering wheel according to the invention, - Figure 2 shows a section of the steering wheel of Figure 1 by a plane passing through the axis of rotation of the steering wheel, and - Figure 3 shows a section of the steering wheel of Figure 1 by an orthoradial plane. Figure 1 shows a vehicle wheel 1 according to the invention. The steering wheel 1 comprises an armature 2, an outer shell 3 and an inner shell 4. The steering wheel 1 may also include a front central hubcap 5 and a rear central hubcap 6 which delimit the airbag housing. The armature 2 which is rigid takes the form of a ring 20 provided with radial arms 21 which meet to form a central part 22 through which the wheel 1 is fixed on the steering column not shown. As shown in Figure 2, the central part 22 has an orifice 23 substantially centered on the axis of the wheel 1 and intended to receive for fixing the upper end of the steering column. The frame 2 is preferably made of metal to form the structural part of the flywheel 1. As can be seen in FIG. 2 and FIG. 3, the ring 20 of the frame 2 is preferably in the form of a U whose bottom is advantageously oriented towards the driver and whose amounts extend towards the rear of the steering wheel 1, that is to say that the bottom is oriented towards the rear of the vehicle and the amounts extend towards the front of the vehicle. In this way, this ring 20 has a groove 24 which extends over its entire perimeter. This groove 24 is advantageously circular in shape. The outer shell 3 takes the form of a ring 30 which is optionally provided with radial arm portions 31. The ring 30 of the outer shell 3 comprises a groove 34 which extends over its entire perimeter. The groove 34, preferably of circular shape, is open towards the rear of the wheel 1 when it is in position in the vehicle, that is to say that the opening of the groove 34 is open towards the front of the vehicle and faces the dashboard and can not be seen by the driver placed in front of the steering wheel 1. The groove 34 takes the general non-limiting form of a U whose bottom is oriented towards the driver and the amounts s extend towards the rear of the flywheel 10. As illustrated in FIG. 3, the amounts of the groove 34 forming two flanks 35a and 35b facing each other, said flanks 35a, 35b including first holding means 36a. and 36b and second holding means 37a and 37b. The inner shell 4 takes the form of a ring 40 which is optionally provided with radial arm portions 41. The assembly of the steering wheel 1 is carried out according to the following assembly method. The ring 20 of the armature 2 is inserted into the groove 34 of the outer shell 3. The ring 20 of the armature 2 is thus housed at the bottom of the groove 34 of the outer shell 3 and the shape of the outer shell 3 The inside of the flanks 35a and 35b is such that the ring 20 is held in the groove 34 by the first holding means 36a and 36b. In the embodiment of the invention, each first holding means 36a, 36b takes the form of a recess which extends inwardly of the groove 34. Each upright of the U-shape forming the ring 20 of the armature 2 is engaged behind one of the recesses 36a, 36b. The armature 2 is thus held at the bottom of the groove 34 by a clamping system forming a spring. In order to ensure the mounting of the ring 20 of the frame 2 inside the groove 34 of the ring 30 of the outer shell 3, said ring 30 is formed of an elastically deformable material so that the flanks 35a, 35b deviate upon insertion of the ring 20 into the groove 34, and return in place to secure the ring 20. Then, the ring 40 of the inner shell 4 is inserted into the groove 34 of the outer shell 3 to take the ring 20 of the frame 2 sandwiched between the outer shell 3 and the inner shell 4 and so that the inner shell 4 is held by the second means of maintaining 37a and 37b. The crown 40 of the inner shell 4 also fits inside the groove 24 of the ring 20 and abuts against said ring 20, and in particular against the bottom of this groove 24. The shape at the 35a and 35b are such that the crown 40 of the inner shell 4 is held in the groove 34. In the embodiment of the invention, each second holding means 37a, 37b takes the form of a protrusion respectively 37a, 37b which extends inwardly of the groove 34. To allow the locking of the inner shell 4 in the groove 34 by the protuberances 37a and 37b, the crown 40 has, for each protrusion 37a, 37b, a recess of complementary shape to the shape of the protrusion 37a, 37b considered, each protrusion being intended to be inserted into the corresponding recess. More generally, the method of assembling the vehicle wheel 1 according to the invention comprises: a step of supplying the armature 2 in the form of the ring 20, a step of supplying the shell 3 in the form of the ring 30 comprising the groove 34 open towards the front of the vehicle and at least one of the flanks 35a, 35b comprises first holding means 36a, 36b and second holding means 37a, 37b, - a step of supplying the inner shell 4 in the form of the ring 40, - a step of placing the ring 20 of the frame 2 in the groove 34 so as to be maintained by the first means holding 36a, 36b, - a step of placing the ring 40 in the groove 34 so as to take the ring 20 of the frame 2 sandwiched between the outer shell 3 and the inner shell 4 and so as to that the inner shell 4 is maintained by the second holding means 37a, 37b . The mass of the wheel thus produced is less than that of the wheels of the state of the art since the assembly does not require the use of coatings forming staples. To complete the assembly, the central front trim 5 and the central rear hubcap 6 are assembled. For this, the two hubcaps 5, 6 are arranged on either side of the central part 22 of the frame 2, and are fixed on said frame 2, in particular by fitting one on the other by screwing or clipping or any other suitable means. In another embodiment not shown, the aforementioned growths are performed on the ring 40 and the recesses are made in the groove 34; the essential being that the rings 20, 30 and the ring 40 have adapted and complementary shapes to cooperate together and ensure a fixing of the two shells 3, 4 on the frame 2.
Each protrusion 37a, 37b and each recess 36a, 36b can be made continuously along the groove 34 or be made intermittently on the same path. When the outer shell 3 is provided with radial arm portions 31 and the inner shell 4 is provided with radial arm portions 41, each protrusion 37a, 37b and each recess 36a, 36b continues along these arm portions to fix the different elements between them. The radial arms 21 of the ring 20 of the frame 2 extend the bottom of the U forming the ring 20 to replace the upright disposed on the side of the inner edge of the flywheel 1. The upright disposed on the side of the outer edge steering wheel 1 is engaged behind the recess 36b.
To further reduce the mass of the wheel 1, each shell 3, 4 is preferably made of a lightweight material, such as, for example, expanded polypropylene. A flywheel according to the invention makes it possible to use such a light material while guaranteeing good mechanical resistance to use. When the steering wheel 1 is assembled, it is possible to achieve a cladding, for example, leather, the outer shell 3, prior to the assembly of the central hubcap before 5 and the center rear hubcap 6. flywheel 1 thus allows a cladding at lower cost, since only the outer shell 3 is sheathed. In addition, it is easy to change the appearance of the steering wheel, simply changing the outer shell 3; the outer shell 3 of course corresponding to the visible part of the steering wheel for the driver, and the part of the steering wheel on which the driver of the steering wheel puts his hands to turn it.
