Description

DISPOSITIF DE PROTECTION CONTRE LES FUITES DE TURBOCOMPRESSEUR La présenteDEVICE FOR PROTECTING TURBOCHARGER LEAKS

The invention relates to devices for protecting oil leaks from motor members. In particular, the invention relates to a leakage protection screen of a turbocharger. The rotational speed of the shafts of the turbochargers used on the internal combustion engines implies a significant lubrication of the bearings on which these shafts are mounted. Although the connections between the oil inlets and returns, and the turbocharger, are relatively tight, especially through the addition of seal between the body of the turbocharger and the connections, leaks can occur. Contact between oil leaking from the turbocharger and high temperature engine components can cause spontaneous combustion of the oil and cause a fire in the engine.

The publication FR 2 852 078 proposes a leakage protection device for a turbocharger comprising a closed envelope which surrounds the oil supply means of the turbocharger. This envelope comprises holes adapted to the passage of the supply pipes of the lubricating oil, and an orifice for the recovery of the leakage oil. For economic reasons, motor vehicle manufacturers limit the number of different parts entering the engine structure. However, the implementation of a leakage protection device in addition to the oil supplies each comprising a connector and a seal, leads to an increase in the number of references required for mounting an engine. The object of the invention is to provide an improved protection against leakage of a turbocharger, and limiting the number of parts involved in the composition of the engine. For this purpose, the invention proposes a protection screen, at least one portion serving as a seal between the body of the member powered by hydraulic circuits, and at least one connecting element of these circuits.

The leaks at the connections between the hydraulic circuits and the powered device, mainly take place at the interface between the seal and the body of the organ because the surface state of the body of the body is, in general, worse. than that of the flange of the fittings. Therefore, the shield placed as a seal between the body and the hydraulic circuit, prevents leakage to the outside at the interface between the screen and the fitting, and channel leaks at the the interface between the screen and the body of the organ. According to one characteristic of the invention, at least one of the portions of the protective shield used as a seal may be substantially flat, so as to be able to position itself against a substantially flat part of the body of the member supplied with hydraulic circuits. . According to other features of the invention, the powered member may be a turbocharger and the hydraulic circuit of the member may be a lubrication circuit. The protective screen may be made of stamped sheet metal, and may include an outlet port for recovering liquid leaking from the body. The invention will now be described in an example with reference to the following accompanying drawings: - Figure 1 is a perspective view of the leakage protection device according to the invention mounted on the turbocharger; FIG. 2 is a perspective view of the leakage protection device of FIG. 1; and FIG. 3 is a sectional view of the device mounted on the turbocharger of FIG. 1. Referring to FIGS. 1 to 3, a turbocharger 10 consists of a turbine 12 driven in rotation by the exhaust gases of the engine. and a compressor 14, which the turbine drives via a drive shaft to compress the intake air of the engine. The central portion 16 of the turbocharger body 10 comprises the drive shaft, and connects the turbine 12 to the compressor 14.

Lubrication and cooling of the turbocharger 10 are provided by an oil circuit and a water circuit. The central part 16 of the body of the turbocharger 10 thus comprises oil inlet and return connections 18 and 20, as well as inlet and return water connections 22.

The fittings can be of different types. In this example, the oil inlet fitting 18 is a banjo type fitting screwed directly into the oil inlet bore 24. The oil return fittings 20, and the inlet and return connections 22 are simple connections brought into contact with the inlets and outlets of the central part 16 of the body of the corresponding turbocharger 10 by means of fixing flanges 26 and 28. These fixing flanges 26 and 28 are fixed to the turbocharger body 10 with screws. In order to protect the engine components against turbocharger leaks, the central portion 16 of the latter is surrounded by a protective screen 30 impervious to oil and water. This protection screen 30 has holes 32, corresponding to the arrivals and returns of the hydraulic circuits 18, 20 and 22. In addition, the protective screen 30, of predominantly cylindrical shape to best surround the central portion 16 of the turbocharger 10, has suitable portions 34 for fixing the water and oil inlet and return fittings 18, 20 and 22. These portions 34 comprise the holes 32. These portions 34 are substantially flat, in order to serve as joint between planar portions of the body of the central portion 16 of the turbocharger 10 and the connections of arrivals and returns of water and oil 18, 20 and 22.

The shield 30 can be mounted on the turbocharger 10 directly to the supplier, thereby reducing the time of mounting a motor at the factory. One of the advantages of this device is to use the single shield 30 as a seal, instead of the usual four seals required for the four fittings.
