Abstract

The dyke is made from a series of inflated tubes (1), each equipped with a layer of sheet material (2) to immobilise it and ensure a seal, with the end of the sheet material opposite the tube having a sleeve (3) containing a weighted line (4) such as a metal chain. The sleeve can be opened and closed by a sliding clasp fastener or Velcro (RTM) strips. In addition, a mesh layer (5) is extended between the sheet material and the top of the inflated tube to protect the latter from floating objects, and the main tube, which can be partially filled with water, contains an auxiliary tube (6) inside it in case it bursts.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1> <Desc / Clms Page number 1>

The present invention relates to removable dikes for emergency protection against flooding.

The means of combating a rapid rise in water consist in damaging the bodies of water by rigid walls, often obtained using stones, sandbags or prefabricated panels. In all cases, these elements are heavy, bulky and long to install.

The invention proposes a new type of dyke, constituted by a series of flexible inflatable tubes, which can be placed very quickly around houses, neighborhoods, or along rivers in flood. This device has the advantage of easy storage, rapid transport, and very simple installation. It concerns both communities and individuals, who can use them to protect their entire home, or just the doors and other points through which water can enter.

A dam element, according to the invention, consists of a strong waterproof fabric sewn and / or glued on itself, thus forming a waterproof cylinder (1) illustrated by FIG. 1. This canvas extends, parallel to a generator of the cylinder (2), over a length which is relatively large compared to the diameter of the cylinder, and ends with a sheath (3).

In the part forming the sheath, which is preferably designed so that it can be opened, for example using a gripping fabric of the "Velcro" (registered trademark) type or a "Zipper" "(registered trademark), a heavy line is inserted, which can for example consist of a metal chain (4).

After having roughly prepared the ground and removed the stones and the sharp elements likely to deteriorate the fabric, one extends this one and one fills the tube with air. The chain inserted in the sheath presses the edge of the canvas on the ground, so that the rising water collects above it. This mass of water creates a pressure which achieves sealing by making it impossible for water to pass under the fabric. In addition, the pressure prevents movement of the assembly under the effect of the forces exerted on the flange when the level rises and in particular of the traction due to the current.

<Desc/Clms Page number 2> <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

To improve the stability of the embankment, and depending on the water level, it will be possible to partially fill the tube with water, provided that the amount of air remaining is sufficient to raise the canvas high enough above the level of the water.

To improve the safety and the resistance of the dike thus formed, it is desirable to fix a strong mesh (5) between the sheath (or a point of the canvas sufficiently distant from the flange), and the top of the flange to protect it against floating elements likely to strike and tear it.

For the same purpose, it is advantageous to create a second watertight flange inside the first (6) in order to have a flotation volume in the event of the puncture of the external flange.

To connect the dike elements in pairs, it suffices to mechanically join the tubes, for example by a series of cushions connected together by ropes, by metal hooks or by any other piece of suitable shape, the sealing being obtained by a canvas covering this connection and that the water pressure presses against the tubes. This arrangement is illustrated in Figure 2.
