Device for mounting a socket, in particular a

  telecommunication connector, on a support.

  The present invention relates to a device for mounting a female socket of generally parallelepiped shape, in particular of a telecommunication connector of the MODULAR JACK type such

  that used in telephony and computing, on a support.

  Telecommunication connectors of the MODULAR JACK type used in telephony and IT include a female socket of generally parallelepiped shape, intended to be mounted on a support, and a male plug fixed to the end of a cable. Sockets of the same type must generally be able to be used in terminal connection, that is to say on the desk side, by being mounted on a front plate, and in connection on the computer cabinet side, by being mounted on panels.

  The mounting device, object of the invention, is intended for mounting a female socket of generally parallelepiped shape, in particular of a telecommunication connector of the MODULAR JACK type used in telephony and in computer science, on a support. The device comprises a mount which is shaped to receive the socket by surrounding it on the lateral sides and leaving free the two front sides corresponding to the side for connecting the cable to the socket and to the side for inserting the plug into the socket and which internally comprises means for retaining the socket and externally means for fixing to any socket support. The device further comprises a pivoting flap articulated on said frame so as to cover the socket on the

  plug insertion side, if no plug is inserted.

  Thus, whether the socket is mounted on a faceplate or on a panel

  stirring, it is always fitted with a pivoting anti-protection flap

  dust, which flap is hinged on the frame used for fixing

  from the socket on any support.

  Preferably, the pivoting flap is hinged in a removable manner on the frame. This allows the user to choose a color pane

  dust, on a faceplate of a terminal connection; Figure 6 shows several sockets mounted on a patch panel. As shown in FIGS. 1 to 4, a female socket 1 of a connector of the MODULAR JACK type, in this case an RJ-45 type socket (8 poles / 8 contacts), of generally parallelepipedal shape, present on a front side an opening 2 for the insertion of a plug and on the opposite front side, means 3 for connecting a cable not shown. The mounting of the socket 1 on its support is carried out using a mount 4 constituted by an injection molded plastic part, shaped so as to receive and surround the socket 1 on the four lateral sides, leaving released the side corresponding to the opening 2 for inserting the plug and the side corresponding to the cable connection means 3. The frame 4 has internally means 5 for retaining the socket 1, and externally means 6a, 6b for fixing the frame 4 to supports. The means 5, 6a and 6b are constituted by latching or clipping means, as is well

known in this technical field.

  The mount 4 also comprises on the side corresponding to the insertion side of the plug in the opening 2 of the socket 1, means 7

  allowing snap-on mounting of a pivoting flap 8.

  As shown above in Figure 3, the flap 8 molded in one piece by plastic injection comprises a body 9 essentially flat and a hinge hinge 10 defined by two ends of opposite axes and offset from the plane of the body 9, the hinge 10 being connected to the body 9 by a part 11 forming a cam. An overhanging elastic blade 12 produced in one piece with the frame 4, projecting between the two means 7 for receiving the hinge 10, cooperates with the part 11 so as to urge the flap 8 elastically towards the closed position visible in FIGS. 1 and 2. The length, the section and the shape of the blade 12 are chosen so that the latter exerts on the shutter 8, when no plug is inserted in the opening 2, an effort ensuring a dust-tight closure of the opening 2

  giving access to the socket connection cavity 1.

  According to FIG. 5, a socket 1 is fixed by its mount 4 on the rear of a faceplate 13, itself fixed on a window support frame 14, for example a square support frame of 45 × 45 mm, intended for receive two

front plates 13 side by side.

  According to FIG. 6, several sockets 1 are fixed by their mounts 4 to a patch panel 15 comprising several windows

rectangular 16.

  As well for the assembly according to FIG. 5 as for the assembly according to FIG. 6, the flap 8 articulated on the frame 4 provides the socket 1 with perfect protection against dust in the absence of a plug inserted in the socket. The fixing of the pivoting flap 8 on the frame 4 by snap-fastening of the ends of pins (hinge) 10 of the flap 8 in the means 7 provided on the frame 4 allows the user to choose the color of the flap 8 according to the use of the socket and mount this colored flap for example to the

  1. Device for mounting a female socket of generally parallelepiped shape, in particular of a telecommunication connector of the MODULAR JACK type, as used in telephony and in computer science, on a support, characterized in that it comprises a frame (4) which is shaped to receive the socket (1) by surrounding it on the lateral sides and leaving free the two opposite front sides of the socket corresponding to the connection side of a cable and to the insertion side a plug, and which internally comprises means (5) for retaining the socket and externally means (6a, 6b) for fixing to any socket support, and a pivoting flap (8) articulated on the frame (4) so as to cover the socket (1) on the insertion side of the   sheet, if no sheet inserted.   2. Device according to claim 1, characterized in that   that the flap (8) is detachably articulated on the frame (4).   3. Device according to claim 2, characterized in that   that the flap (8) is snap-fitted to the frame (4).   4. Device according to any one of the claims   previous, characterized in that the flap (8) is resiliently biased in the closed position at which it covers the socket on the side inserting the plug.   5. Device according to claim 4, characterized in that the flap (8) is biased in the closed position by a spring element (12) integral with the mount (4).   6. Device according to claim 5, characterized in that the articulation axis (10) of the flap (8) is offset relative to the plane of the body (9) of the flap and that the spring element is constituted by a cantilevered blade (12) urging the flap in a position offset by   relative to the axis of articulation (10).   7. Device according to claim 6, characterized in that the part of the flap (8) connecting the hinge pin (10) to the body (9) of the   flap has the shape of a cam (11).   8. Device according to any one of claims   above, characterized in that the means (6a, 6b) provided externally on the mount (4) for fixing to a support, are   constituted by snap fastening means.   9. Device according to any one of claims   above, characterized in that the means (5) provided internally on the mount (4) for retaining the socket (1) are snap-in means.
