Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method of physicochemical treatment of effluents including surface water intended for consumption.
It is known that the implementation of physicochemical processes is common to most treatments applied to different types of water and that these treatments consist essentially of:
- clarification of surface waters for consumption or for
industries,
- clarification of urban, rainwater or industrial wastewater,
- decarbonation
- elimination of phosphates, etc.
une ou plusieurs étapes;
These types of physico-chemical treatments always include the following successive stages:
a coagulation: step of neutralization of colloids with a salt
metallic, trivalent compound of iron or aluminum in general, for
form a microfloc. This coagulation step can be performed in
one or more steps;
a flocculation: agglomeration and growth stage of the microfloc.
part.This agglomeration step is carried out thanks to the addition of a
polyelectrolyte (or polymer), downstream of the coagulation step
a decantation: step of separation of the floc and the interstitial water,
leading to the production of sludge on the one hand, and clarified water, on the other
share.
For thirty years, the state of the art relating to such a physicochemical treatment has considerably evolved as a result of the appearance of two technologies:
- flocculation with contact mass which has made it possible to improve the quality
flocs, reduce the volume of reactors and improve the
Indeed, the microflocks of coagulation have all the more
chance to agglomerate and grow that the reaction medium involves
a high density of particles: the formation speed of the floc is
proportional to the number of free particles in the suspension.
réduire la taille desdits décanteurs dans une proportion de 50 à 70%.- the lamellar settling, carried out by introduction of plates or
inclined tubes, in decanters. This technology has allowed
reduce the size of said decanters in a proportion of 50 to 70%.
Current technological developments aim at improving flocculation conditions, which are decisive for the quality of the treated water and for obtaining high settling speeds.
1. la boue décantée et recirculée : un exemple de cette technique est décrit dans FR-A-2 553 082;
To date, modern decanters use two types of contact masses in the flocculation reactor:
1. sludge decanted and recirculated: an example of this technique is described in FR-A-2 553 082;
2. fine weights, such as microsand: an example of implementation of this technique is described in FR-PI 411 792 and in FR-A2 627 704.
The present invention relates to improvements made to decanted and recirculated sludge apparatus, such improvements being such that said apparatuses, while retaining their specificities and advantages, operate at much greater settling rates.
Before describing said improvements, the advantages as well as the disadvantages of this known technique, with slurry contact mass, will be described.
In Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings, there is shown schematically a physicochemical treatment plant implementing this technique. This figure shows schematically in A the coagulation reactor, in
B, the flocculator and in C the decanter. These are facilities well known to those skilled in the art and under these conditions they will not be described.
As can be seen in this FIG. 1, the contact mass in the flocculation reactor B consists of the recirculation of a portion of the C sludge, this portion of recycled sludge being introduced into the flocculator B by means of The intermediate of the pipe 16 and the recirculation pump 18. The flow of recirculated sludge represents between 0.5 and 4% of the treated flow. The recirculated sludge, the raw water and the polyelectrolyte are brought into contact in a zone of high turbulence, the polymer as seen in this figure 1 being generally injected in the vicinity of the propeller 10 of the flocculator B. The sludge concentrated in excess are extracted and evacuated.
1 -la masse de contact est générée par le procédé, donc disponible sans limitation de quantité, selon les besoins du procédé;
2-dans le réacteur de floculation B, la masse de boues due à la recirculation est très élevée par rapport aux matières en suspension apportées par l'eau bute. De ce fait, le système est insensible aussi bien aux baisses qu'aux montées importantes des matières en suspension de l'eau brute;
volume égal à 100 ml. Cette très grande surface spécifique ou occupation spatiale augmente considérablement la probabilité de contact entre les flocs et les très fines particules, colloïdes coagulés, micro-organismes et donc la probilité de piéger ces matières en suspension avec beaucoup d'efficacité;
4- du fait de la recirculation continue des boues toujours refloculées, il se produit une densification de celles-ci. Aussi, les boues extraites sont très concentrées (deux à dix fois plus concentrées que les boues de la plupart des appareils);
The advantages of this flocculation technique using sludge and recirculated sludge as a contact mass are as follows:
1 -the contact mass is generated by the process, therefore available without quantity limitation, according to the needs of the process;
2-in the flocculation reactor B, the mass of sludge due to recirculation is very high compared to suspended matter brought by water abuts. As a result, the system is insensitive to both drops and large amounts of suspended solids in the raw water;
3-the mass of contact offers a specific surface or a very important spatial occupation, because of its expanded structure, its low relative density; as an example 1 gram of flocculated sludge in one liter (concentration
medium in the reactor) occupies, after decantation of about 5 minutes, a
volume equal to 100 ml. This very large surface area or spatial occupation greatly increases the probability of contact between the flocs and very fine particles, coagulated colloids, microorganisms and therefore the probility to trap these suspended materials with great efficiency;
4 because of the continuous recirculation of sludge always refloculated, there is a densification thereof. Also, the extracted sludge is very concentrated (two to ten times more concentrated than the sludge of most appliances);
This technique makes it possible to reach relatively high processing speeds. Thus, in clarifying river water, the speeds announced through the lamellar modules of the decanter are between 10 and 25 m3 / m2.h, which corresponds to decantation rates UD (flow rate / surface of the slab of the decanter ) from 6 to 15 m / h. These speeds are in fact limited by the limiting mass flux (Fml) of the flocculated suspension expressed in kg of suspended material passing through m2 of decanter bed and per hour (kg / m2 / h).
Fml = CR x Udl
Soit: Udl = Fml/CR.The mass flux is the limiting factor which determines the theoretical limit value of decantation Udl. This value is also related to the CR concentration of sludge in reactor B expressed in kg / m3
Fml = CR x Udl
Let Udl = Fml / CR.
If the decantation rate UD applied to the decanter C is equal to or greater than Udl there is engorgement. The lamellar clarifier is effective as a finisher but is unable to hold a mud bed.
It must therefore be verified that the mass flux applied to the decanter is less than Fml or that the decantation rate UD applied to the decanter is less than Ud1.
For example, in the case of clarification of river water, the limit mass flow is generally less than or close to 20 kg / m3 .h. The CR concentration required for good flocculation is about 1 kg / m3. The decantation limit speed Udl is then 20m / h. hence the speed UD applied to the decanter less than 15 m./h. For safety reasons.
6 - Often such devices are followed by a filtration system.
This is the case in river water clarification. The filtration is characterized by the quality of the filtered water and the duration of the filtration cycle (operating time after which the maximum fouling of the filter is reached, requiring a washing thereof). With sludge recirculating settling tanks, the duration of the filtration cycle is generally longer than 24 hours.
To translate the ability of the decanted water to be filtered with correct filtration times, representative tests are made of the filterability of the settled water. One of the tests that can be used is to measure the time required to filter 250 cm3 of settled water on a 5 μm membrane and under a vacuum of 8.104 Pa. The filtration of the water will be all the easier as this time will be short. .
In the case of a decanter operating with a settling speed UD equal to 15 m / h, the filterability is about 30 seconds.
7 - Increasing settling rates UD is possible but at the cost of an increase in the polyelectrolyte dose. However, an excess of polyelectrolyte reduces the filterability of the decanted water (increase in the test time), which results in a filter by surface clogging and thus by a reduction in the duration of the filtration cycle.
The present invention proposes to improve the technique described above in order to eliminate the disadvantages.
Accordingly, the subject of the present invention is a process for the physicochemical treatment of effluents, in particular surface water intended for consumption, comprising the successive stages of coagulation, flocculation and decantation, a contact mass being introduced into the water resulting from the coagulation step, therefore during the flocculation step, this contact mass being constituted by a portion of the densified sludges from the decantation stage and recycled in the flocculation step, this process being characterized in what is injected into the sludge recirculation circuit at least a portion of the polyelectrolyte ensuring flocculation.
The licensee has found that this approach has the unexpected and advantageous effect of increasing the limiting mass flow, the settling rate, the filterability of the raw water and the concentration of the extracted sludge.
Other features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the description given below with reference to the accompanying drawings which illustrate an implementation mode devoid of any limiting character. On the drawings:
FIG. 1 is a schematic view illustrating the principle of the above-described known method of physicochemical treatment in which the contact mass used during the flocculation stage consists of sludge which is decanted and recirculated and
- Figure 2 is a block diagram, similar to Figure 1 illustrating the method object of the present invention.
As can be seen in FIG. 2, the contact mass in the flocculator B, as in the known process illustrated in FIG. 1, consists of a continuous recirculation of a portion of the densified sludge, after settling and thickening. in the clarifier C. The portion of sludge thus recycled is recirculated to the flocculator B by means of the recirculation line 16, opening at 14 in the flocculator and the pump 18.
According to the present invention, at least one part (polymer 2) of the polyelectrolyte necessary for flocculation is introduced into the recirculation circuit 16 of the sludge. The optionally remaining portion of the polyelectrolyte (polymer 1) is introduced into the flocculation reactor B. As seen in FIG. 2, this introduction of at least a portion of the polyelectrolyte into the recirculated sludge can be carried out upstream or downstream. downstream of the recirculation pump 18. Generally, this injection will be carried out upstream of the pump 18 so that the mixture of recycled sludge + polyelectrolytes benefits from mixing the pump.
Alternatively, the part of the polyelectrolyte introduced into the recycled sludge can be mixed with the latter in a specific stirred reactor placed on the recirculation line 16.
According to the present invention, the primary injection of polyelectrolyte (polymer 1) can be carried out in the flocculation reactor B, in the vicinity of the latter's helix 10 as illustrated in FIG. 2, but it can also be carried out in the conduit 12 for supplying the water to be treated in the flocculator (agitated zone), upstream or downstream of the admission point 14 of the recirculated sludge via the pipe 16.
According to the invention, the ratio between the polyelectrolyte dose introduced into the flocculation reactor B (primary injection) and the dose injected into the sludge recirculation circuit 16 (secondary injection) can vary and be optimized. The proportion of polymer injected into the sludge recirculation can vary from 10% to 100% of the total polymer flow, 10% is the polymer dose necessary to obtain a significant increase in the mass flow (greater than 10%). It is possible according to the invention to inject 100% of the polymer into the sludge recirculation circuit. In this case, the mass flows are even more important (100 to 200 kg / m3.h), but the quality of the water deteriorates a little. Indeed, in this case, there is no longer enough free polymer for bonding between dense recirculated sludge and microflocs from the coagulation of raw water.
In practice, depending on whether the desired objective is a high decanting speed UD (compactness of the structure) or a quality treated water, the proportion of polymer injected into the sludge recirculation circuit, compared to the whole the polymer injected into the flocculation step will vary from 10% to 100% with an optimum generally between 20 and 70%.
According to the present invention, it is possible to inject into the recirculated sludge a polymer different from that which is injected into the flocculation reactor B. Thus, for example, an anionic polymer can be injected into the flocculation reactor B and a cationic polymer into recirculated sludge.
According to the present invention, recirculated sludge
can be injected directly into the flocculator B, as shown in Figure 2 or in the pipe 12 ensuring the connection between the coagulator A and the flocculator B.
The process which is the subject of the present invention can be applied to any type of water treatment, clarification of water for consumption or industry, treatment of industrial or urban water (primary or tertiary, etc.).
Tests were carried out on the same test pilot equipped with a coagulator A, a flocculator B and a decanter C whose settling area SD was equal to 2 m 2 and a sludge recirculation circuit. having a recirculation pump 18 adapted flow. The capacity of this test pilot was about 100m3 / h.
Two series of tests were thus carried out on surface water. The polyelectrolyte dose was the same in both cases (0.8 g / m3) but slightly higher than usual in an attempt to increase the settling rates UD. In the first series 100% of the polyelectrolyte was injected into the flocculation reactor B, in the vicinity of its helix 10, whereas in the second series of tests only 50% of the polyelectrolyte was injected in the vicinity of the flocculation helix. 10 and 50% injected into the circuit 16 sludge recirculation. The pilot was adjusted and adjusted so that all other test conditions were otherwise identical.

It emerges from the study of the results appearing in this table that the method which is the subject of the invention brings the following advantages over the prior state of the art:
1) At the same polymer dose, the mass flux is twice as large, which made it possible to test settling velocities UD in the decanter or UL in the lamellar, twice as high and this at water quality treated, practically equal, this benefit resulting in a reduction in the size of
2) Decanted water has better filterability. The filterability test time (30 seconds) is two times lower and equivalent to that obtained with usual polymer doses (about 0.4 g / m3) and lower processing speeds (UD = 15 m / h instead of 50 m / h.), this longer duration of the filtration cycle leads to a reduction in the number of washes to be performed on the filters.
3) The extracted sludge has an improved concentration of about 50%, which reduces the size of the sludge treatment systems, this result providing the advantage of reducing the size of the sludge treatment systems.
It remains understood that the present invention is not limited to the embodiments and implementation described and / or represented but encompasses all variants that fall within the scope of the appended claims
Thus, in some cases, where the adhesion of microflocks of coagulation on the dense sludge of recirculation is bad, it can, according to the invention provide a third polymer injection point. In this case, this third injection point is preferably placed upstream of the first injection point in the transfer line 12 providing the connection between the coagulator A and the flocculator
B, or in a specific reactor interposed between the coagulator and the flocculator.
