Une variante consiste à utiliser pour la tension de la "natte" des éléments élastiques s'appuyant sur l'extérieur du cadre et fonctionnant en compression. Ces éléments élastiques sont précomprimés sous une force légérement inférieure à la force nécessaire à la tension de la natte (fig 6). De cette façon, la tension de la natte peut être obtenue avec un plus faible aggrandissement du cadre. Cet aggrandissement peut alors etre obtenu par l'écartement d'un nombre réduit d'éléments du cadre et, à la limite, par l'écartement de deux éléments seulement. Variant:
