Abstract

The fastening, e.g. for a waterproof backing layer (8) for a loudspeaker (7) attached to a motor vehicle body panel (4), has the backing layer made in one piece with expanding plastic dowels (9) shaped to engage with holes in the body panel and receive fixing screws (11). The cross-section of each dowel is more or less identical to that of a body panel hole, with the dowels and backing panel moulded from a plastic such as polyamide. Each dowel has a blind hole (10) in it to receive a screw. The dowels can have, for example, a non-circular cross section, and at least one of the dowels and its body panel hole can be different from the others to ensure correct positioning of the component.
