Abstract

The packaging which is formed from a single blank has striations (21) on adjacent sides of the bottom. The lower end of the striations are supported on the perimeter (7) of the base. A replaceable flexible film (10) ensures hygiene, provides thermal insulation and protects against shocks. The axis of the striations on each side is inscribed in a plane perpendicular to the packaging base. The base perimeter does not have any striations projecting from the internal side and has a plane surface for supporting the striations. The cover (12,13) provides rigidity to the packaging which is assembled by folding the sides of the base.

Description

The present invention relates to a foldable and reusable package, in one piece. According to particular applications, this packaging can be suitable for food contact, isothermal, shockproof, waterproof, manual mounting or mechanized mounting.

The grouping of articles, especially food is most often achieved by means of boxes, of the American cardboard box type, cardboard tray, wooden crate or expanded polystyrene box.

These single-use packaging results in increasingly expensive packaging waste to be eliminated and a significant waste of resources and energy. But these packages are inexpensive, easy to mechanize and hygienic; the polystyrene boxes are also insulating and waterproof.

Some packaging is returnable and reused, but it is most often rigid, which results in return transport costs as costly as the outward transport.

Some reused packaging is "stackable gerbablei" but due to the clearance angle necessary for nesting, they have thick walls since they work obliquely and, when they have covers, these are often lost by the user because they have to be managed separately. Their use is therefore expensive.

Other returnable and reusable packaging is foldable, but due to the complexity of the parts and molds used to make them, they are expensive, sometimes fragile and never waterproof.

Finally, all these packaging poses a real problem of hygiene and food safety in the event of re-use, no washing guarantees absolutely an aptitude for food contact, all the more since it is impossible to know what the products were. transported: this is why health and veterinary services sometimes prohibit the re-use of packaging: they do not offer all the necessary guarantees.

The problem of hygiene also arises for single-use packaging made of cardboard or wood which, because of their natural porosity, is very good support for microbial contamination which is very strongly not recommended in the preparation areas and laboratories of Agrifoods industries
The present invention aims to develop the reuse of transport cases and therefore reduce packaging waste while ensuring solidity, hygiene, low costs, the possibility of mechanization as well as manual assembly, thermal insulation, shock protection and sealing, and this with a foldable flat packaging before and after use - the mechanical resistance is high despite an initial low manufacturing price, - the implementation is possible both online mechanized packaging than manual, - return transport is done flat, even for watertight cases, - washing is simplified, - reconditioning is easy, - finally hygiene is guaranteed after each reconditioning by replacing the area contaminated with new.

The device, according to the invention, is a foldable package mounted from a flat sidewall, in one piece, from the developed surface of the unfolded package, so that only usual accessory assembly elements ( adhesive tape, glue, elastic belt, staples, clips etc ...) must be added to form the packaging.

The structural part of this sidewall, which ensures its mechanical resistance, is reusable: it consists of a semi-rigid sheet, for example of plastic, cardboard, thin sheet steel or aluminum, or a multi-material complex . All the sides adjacent to the base of the package formed from this flank are provided with grooves, the lower end of which can bear on the periphery of the base of the package when it is mounted. Thus, each groove on one side transfers directly to the periphery of the base of the packaging the compression force undergone in palletizing, stacking and transport.

The maximum efficiency sought is obtained when each groove on one side meets the following characteristics: - the groove occupies substantially the entire height of the side of the package which carries it, apart from grooving, bending and cutting, - the groove comprises a portion of its section in a straight line which allows at its lower end the articulation of the side and the base to allow the mounting of the packaging, - its section is continuous from top to bottom, - the axis of the groove is inscribed in a plane perpendicular to the plane of the base of the packaging, in order to best transfer the vertical stresses, so that the axis of the groove is always perpendicular to the edge formed by the fold of the base and of the side which carries the groove, - the entire section of the groove can come to bear on the periphery of the base in order to fully transfer all pressures to the base of the packaging, which positions the groove always re-entrant with respect to the packaging: the groove is always entirely located on the inside and its volume is always indicated in that of the packaging.

- Given the thickness of the semi-rigid sheet, generally less than 1 millimeter, the depth of the embossing of the groove will preferably be greater than this value in order to ensure satisfactory rigidity.

- when a thermal insulation characteristic is sought, the depth of the embossing of the grooves is greater than or at least equal to 1 centimeter.

The functional part of this sidewall is optional and relates to the surface characteristics of the packaging.

The surface area which allows hygiene, food contact, sealing, insulation from excess temperature or shock consists of at least one film, for example plastic or any other flexible sheet material (paper , aluminum, multimaterial complex, etc.) which protects the semi-rigid sheet from contact with the contained products or from the outside.

This film is renewable by standard exchange. The repairing of the packaging, that is to say its renovation, consists in replacing the used film or films identically with new elements in order to guarantee hygiene and the other performances of the packaging for reuse. . Thus the renovated packaging has surface characteristics identical to the new packaging.

The assembly of the structural and functional parts of the device, that is to say of a semi-rigid sheet, grooved or embossed on a part of its surface and at least one film (or flexible sheet) cut and shaped, constitutes the flank which, once mounted, produces the packaging according to the invention.

The cut shapes of the semi-rigid sheet and (or films) may be different: the film may cover only part of the sheet or, on the contrary, protrude from the sheet.

In particular, to obtain a tight polyhedral packaging from a side "in cross cut" or in "star cut", the semi rigid sheet is covered by 2 films, the cut of the flexible films is larger than the cut semi-rigid sheet, in particular larger or equal to the polygon formed by joining the ends of the upper edges of the flat packaging, and the folding angles are not incised, so that the lower part of the packaging is waterproof.

The assembly of each film (or flexible sheet) on the semi-rigid sheet can be carried out by any suitable means (bonding, welding, static electricity, vacuum, etc.). The fixing of these two elements is done on flat areas of the semi-rigid sheet or on flat areas of the grooves carried by the sides adjacent to the base or on extensions thereof.

The assembly is carried out so that the film is integral with the sheet. The film can be substantially stretched or, on the contrary, loose or even pleated.

The semi-rigid sheet according to the invention comprises areas which are always and erltiircmcnt fluted, areas which are always flat and areas where embossing is possible but optional.

The areas that are never embossed are located at the inner perimeter of the base of the package and the lid
if the package has one, or any upper surface of the package, parallel to the base and which serves to support a similar superimposed package, such as a sidewalk formed by folding on itself on one side of the package . The flat and unembossed width on this periphery is at least equal to the depth of the groove on the adjacent side. Thus when folding in the shape of the sidewall, the groove on the adjacent, re-entrant side is placed against a flat, non-embossed area of the base.

The other parts of the packaging, mainly the center of the base, the center of the packaging cover, the gluing or folding tabs are optionally embossed and all types of embossing, including grooves, are possible on these zones.

According to particular embodiments of the invention:
The shape of the packaging is substantially a rectangular parallelepiped formed from a "cross cut", with or without flaps acting as a cover.

The shape of the packaging is substantially a rectangular parallelepiped formed from a flank of the "American box" type, with tab allowing the joining by gluing or snap-fastening, provided or not with flaps acting as cover.

The form of the packaging is a substantially rectangular rectangular tray with or without a cut in its longer sides, formed from a sidewall whose 2 opposite sides are folded back on themselves by trapping the extensions of the two long sides, l 'assembly with or without one or two flaps acting as a cover.

The shape of the package is essentially a truncated cone with cut sides, at the oblique sides, like a half barrel or a hamper; this shape is obtained from a "star" cut, held in position either by a circular wrapping (made for example with a circular adhesive tape, a strip, or any other means forming a belt) or by the fact that each side has a tab which is trapped by the folding on itself on the neighboring side
According to other particular provisions of the invention, the section of the flutes on the sides adjacent to the base of the packaging has the shape of an open polygon (to the nearest rounded corners) and in particular a U-shaped, V , W, in open rectangle and in open isosceles trapezoid; the grooves may have lower and upper ends, open (knocked out) or closed, straight or oblique.

A particular provision of the invention makes it possible to obtain a packaging with good thermal insulation characteristics.
The semi rigid sheet is entirely coated with 2 films, located on either side of this sheet, the bottom and the cover are embossed, (except in their peripheries) the depth of all the grooves on the sides and embossing of the bottoms and lids is greater than 1 cm, the packaged product is therefore entirely surrounded by a layer of air of at least 1 cm trapped between the two films, which gives the packaging good thermal insulation characteristics.

The following particular arrangement confers improved thermal insulation characteristics and can be combined with the preceding arrangement: the film located on the outside or on the inside of the packaging can be metallic or metallized in order to reflect the infrared rays and improve the thermal insulation characteristics of the packaging.

According to a particular provision of the invention, in order to obtain an impact-resistant packaging which ensures optimal maintenance of the product contained without the need to add an additional wedging element, the packaging therefore being always in one piece, the optional embossing of the bottom and / or the cover can follow the shape of the objects contained (mechanical parts, bottles, pots, fruit ...).

According to another particular arrangement, in order to improve the protection against shock and vibration for the products contained in the package, the device on the inside of the package is a bubble film, or an expanded foam, or a pre-embossed film or pleated film
According to another particular arrangement, in order to allow manual mounting of the packaging (without glue, adhesive, staples, etc.) the invention provides that at least one side is foldable on itself and traps at least a mounting lug which extends at least one neighboring side.

This mounting "tab" is, according to a particular provision of the invention, of a shape such that it fits into the corner sector delimited by: on the one hand the fold on the side of which it is the extension , (this fold being perpendicular to the edge formed by the side of which it is the extension and the base of the packaging) and on the other hand by the bisector of the angle formed by this fold and the edge of the neighboring side which , folded back on itself, imprisons this leg.

Thus the film or films with which the tab is integral fold against it without puncturing during assembly of the packaging.

According to another particular arrangement of the invention, the tab as described above is a triangular rectangle.

According to particular provisions of the invention, the process for rehabilitating the sidewall is carried out according to several stages which include inter alia the total or partial removal of the old film (or flexible sheet) and the assembly of a new film, comparable to the previous one, instead of the latter; therefore the film in place after several reuse of the packaging can have a variable thickness: it can consist of a superimposition of films in certain places (when the previous films have not been carefully removed) and a only film in other places of the flank.

According to another particular arrangement of the invention, the restoration of the sidewall is carried out according to a process which comprises at least the following steps:
Cleaning of dirt from the old film, by washing, blowing with compressed air or any other suitable means
Elimination of the old film by tearing off, take off, fusion or any other suitable means
Installation and assembly of the new film by heat sealing, gluing or any other suitable means.

According to the invention, the sides (2) and (3) are grooved over their entire height and the plane of the axis of the grooves (21) is perpendicular to the plane of the base (1). The perimeter (7) of the base (1) as well as the perimeter (8) of the cover formed by the flaps (12) and (13) assembled, are flat and are not waffles.

The box is mechanically formed in the classic manner of a corrugated cardboard eri cut, by folding the sides perpendicular to the base, for example by means of guides by pushing the cut by pressing on the base (1), fixing the sides vertical (2) and (3) by any suitable means, then, after filling, closing the flaps (12) and (13) as for an American box.

FIG. 2a shows the flat cutout of a fruit and vegetable tray formed by means of a partially embossed sheet and a film, integral: the base (1) has 4 adjacent sides: 2 long sides (3) and 2 sides (4a-4b) foldable on themselves (the part (4b) folds over (4a)) and which trap the tabs (5) on the other 2 sides (3).

A single film (10) covers the semi-rigid sheet, it is placed on the outside of the package and protrudes from the end of the side to be folded down (4b) by a length greater than half the length of the side (3 ).

As specified by the invention, the sides (4a) and (3) are grooved and the grooves (21) have their axes inscribed in planes perpendicular to the plane of the base (1) of the packaging.

The bottom (1) is in this example embossed "in cups" (17) so that the stacking of identical trays and the maintenance of the products are facilitated. Such a device would be suitable for grouping and presenting for sale, for example yoghurts or fruit, depending on the shape of the cups.

Figures 5a and 5b illustrate an application of the invention to a packaging with non-vertical walls, such as an oyster hamper.

The inner film is not shown but has the same cutout as the outer film (10). The perimeter (7) of the base (1) is not embossed, according to the invention.

Figure 5b shows the hamper mounted and held in place by an adhesive tape (14) placed in a belt.

The bottom of the basket is presented "cut away" and allows to see that the grooves (21) of the sides (2) come to rest against the perimeter (7) of the base (1) because their end is oblique.

The base (1) is optionally embossed, for example it can be personalized with the name of the shipper or the production area.

The films (10a-10b) being in one piece the bottom of the package is waterproof.

The outer film (10) can be printed.

FIGS. 6a and 6b show the detail of the shape of a corner tab (5) with crenellated folding tab (18), for effective locking of a box with manual mounting.

Figure Ea shows the tab (5) it includes a foldable part (18), adjacent to the side (3) formed by a succession of tabs.

Figure Eb shows the side (4b) folded over the inside of the side (4a) forming the sidewalk (8) which traps the tab (5) with its crenellated part (18) folded down. The tongues fit into the recesses located between the projecting parts of the grooves (21).

This invention finds its application in the fields of packaging and packaging, in particular in agriculture and the food industry as well as in the context of environmental protection and the reduction of packaging waste. .
