Abstract

The lighting monitoring and control unit has two principal components, one a control unit and the other a driver indication unit. The control unit incorporates a printed circuit (C1) on which are mounted a number of semiconductors or relays (R1). Each lamp filament in the lighting or signalling circuits of the motor vehicle is connected to the printed circuit board so that the filament appears as a fuse to the monitoring unit, and failure of the lamp filament is detected by the appropriate semiconductor or relay. When a filament failure is detected the circuit activates the driver indication unit, operating a visual or audible signal, alerting the driver to the failure of the lamp filament immediately it occurs.
