Ces paliers sont principalement constitués d'un corps composé de deux parties, dites demi-paliers, assemblées l'une à l'autre par boulonnage, et destiné à recevoir un organe de roulement, tels que roulement à bille ou à rouleaux du commerce, et des joints d'étanchéité disposés de part et d'autre de l'organe de roulement.
