Abstract

A process for the manufacture of a film-forming compsn. incorporating plastic particles comprises: (i) mixing the plastic particles with additives; (ii) reacting the additive solvent with the plastic particles; and (iii) mixing the powder/paste obtd. with a suitable paint. Also claimed is the compsn. obtd.

Description

 The present invention relates, on the one hand, to a process for manufacturing a film-forming composition for covering a surface and, on the other hand, to the film-forming composition used in the process.

 Among the documents of the state of the art, the document FR-A-1.469.096 is the most interesting. I1 relates to film-forming compositions which contain particles of thermoplastic material in dispersion in a film-forming binder. The coatings thus covered have a very high surface hardness and have a good non-slip effect.

 The essential drawback of this document lies in the fact that the thermoplastic particles are always in contact with the film-forming binder, that is to say with the paint and therefore with the solvents. There is therefore a possibility of softening or even destruction of the particles in contact with the solvents. This results in a loss of non-slip properties. These film-forming compositions require a use-by date. In addition, even if the use is carried out in the non-contraindicated period, the thermoplastic particles tend to agglomerate, which causes deposit phenomena at the bottom of the cans, which varies the particle size of said particles.

These particles have a particle size less than 250 microns.

 Another technique for making floors non-slippery consists in adding hard particles and in particular of silica, generally sprinkled on the freshly painted areas, any mixture of silica / paint proving impossible taking into account the significant difference in densities (for the record, density average of floor coverings 1.2 to 1.4 and silica 1.8), hence a risk of segregation at the bottom of the container.

 The surface treated by this method has an irregular and quickly unsightly surface due to the fouling of rough areas.

 In addition, if pedestrians fall, the silica-treated surface can cause significant skin injuries.

 The silica paint bond is not perfect.

 Under the effect of the circulation, the silica particles on the surface are torn off in particular by the tires, causing a surface abrasive which rapidly degrades the protective film.

 In addition, after tearing off the silica particles, the paint film has micro-perforations which allow water to infiltrate under the film, thus causing detachments by vaporization due to a significant difference in temperature.

 The proposed system allows the application stage to obtain a regular surface, which is not the case with current non-slip solutions.

 The stability of the product, intended to be mixed with paints, allows a long storage since not intervening in any way in the mixing of the finished products, there is no denaturation.

 This product can be adapted to all types of film-forming coatings thanks to dispersion binders. The addition of mineral and organic pigments allows practically unlimited adaptation to the chromatic requirements of users.

 The product, once applied, has anti-slip qualities as well as a very significant reduction in noise emitted by vehicle rolling or movement of soles such as noise in a sports hall with synthetic finish.

 In addition, the recovery process makes it possible in particular to use recycled plastics, which indirectly contributes to improving the environment.

 The method can also be envisaged for improving the finish appearance of the coatings.

 To this end, the present invention relates to a process for manufacturing a film-forming composition, incorporating plastic particles, intended for covering a surface, characterized in that it consists of - mixing the plastic particles with additives , - allow the solvent for the additives to act vis-à-vis the plastic particles, and - mix the powder obtained with a paint of any kind.

 The composition includes - plastic particles - additives, and - paint, the plastic particles and additives constituting a paste.

 The additives consist of - a resin, - a solvent, and - a wetting or dispersing agent.

 The wetting or dispersing agent consists of a blocked copolymer, which comprises groups having a strong affinity for the pigment contained in the paint, this amount being a function of the mineral or organic nature of the pigment.

 According to a first embodiment, the resin of the additives and / or of the paint is of epoxy nature.

 According to a second embodiment, the resin of the additives is of aldehyde nature.

 The composition comprises - from 5 to 10% of plastic particles, - from 5 to 10% of additives, and - from 80 to 90% of paint, the paste therefore constituting 5 to 15% of said composition.

 The paste, resulting from the mixture of plastic particles and additives, comprises - from 20 to 25% of resin, - from 20 to 25% of solvent, - from 3 to 5% of wetting or dispersing agent, and - substantially 50 % of plastic particles.

 The composition, in which the additives contain pigments of mineral or organic nature, is characterized in that the paste, resulting from the mixture of the plastic particles and the additives comprises - from 25 to 30% of resin, - from 10 to 30 % of solvent, - from 2.5 to 15% of wetting or dispersing agent, - from 10 to 30% of pigments, and - substantially 25% of plastic particles.

 The plastic particles consist of grains and / or flakes whose particle size and / or dimensions are between 600 and 1200 microns.

 These plastic particles come from recycled and micronized plastic materials.

 The attached drawings are given as indicative and non-limiting examples. They will allow the invention to be easily understood.

 Figures 1 to 3 show three sound recording curves of the movement of a vehicle at a level whose floor is covered with a conventional paint.

 Figures 4 to 6 show three sound recording curves of the movement of a vehicle at a level whose floor is covered with a film-forming composition according to the invention.

 Finally, FIG. 7 represents a graph comprising three different curves which are the results of measurements of an abrasimeter, depending on the nature of the paint used.

 Many processes currently use thermoplastic products to improve the qualities of film-forming products.

 The invention provides a film-forming composition which attenuates road noise and increases the grip of tires.

 The invention consists in using plastics such as polyvinyl chloride, hereinafter referred to as PVC, which consist of recycled materials, the most advantageous particle size of which is substantially 800 microns.

 This film-forming composition makes it possible to avoid softening or destruction phenomena by dissolving PVC with the solvents, which are contained in most paints.

 In the work which was carried out by the applicant, it appeared that the quantity of PVC should be, in proportion, within a range going from 5 to 10%. Below the value of 5%, the anti-slip improvements are insufficient, while beyond 10% the surface distribution of the grains does not make it possible to obtain a regular appearance.

 In addition, this percentage and the particle size used allow very easy cleaning of said coatings.

 To establish the advantages of the process and of the composition which is the subject of the present invention, the applicant has carried out sound surveys at the parking lots using said process and said film-forming compositions.

 The intervention consisted in carrying out rolling noise measurements on a coating of the usual type, that is to say with a single layer of paint at ground level, and on a coating, according to the invention, identical but with the incorporation of PVC particles associated with a resin without solvent but with dispersant, whose chemical composition is compatible with painting.

 Acoustic measurements are made in decibels (dB (A)) and provide an indication of the influence of the non-slip coating on the rolling noise of a vehicle, mainly at the corner.

 The measurements were carried out successively on two stages, a first stage with conventional coating and a second stage produced according to the invention. An integrating sound level meter of the "S.O.E.U.R. A.N.N.E." type was used. 11.10 on which the 125 millisecond time base and the A weighting have been selected for noise measurement in Leq (125ms) dB (A).

 The vehicle used is a Renault 19 and the course has three corners. In fact, the course is made up of three turns which frame two ends of a straight line located perpendicular to each other. The sound level meter is placed between the first two turns. More precisely, this sound level meter was placed at a height of 120 cm at the edge and halfway through the course of the test vehicle, that is to say between the first two turns of the course.

 Of course, these corners were approached with the engine off so as not to distort the data. The tires used by the vehicle were MICHELIN X M + S 100.

 Three tests were recorded for each coating.

 The measurements of each test have been plotted to translate the time course of the rolling noise (curves giving the sound level in decibel on the ordinate and the travel time in seconds on the abscissa).

 For the coating without non-slip, we can distinguish, on the curves of Figures 1 to 3, three peaks which correspond to the rolling noises in the three turns made by the vehicle, the first peak reaching 90 dB (A) and the other two approaching 80 dB (A).

 For the coating with non-slip in Figures 4 to 6, the three peaks are much less distinguished, the rolling noises when cornering are largely attenuated since they rarely exceed 70 dB (A).

Furthermore, if we calculate the Leq over the entire journey time, the so-called global Leq would give in dB (A)

The overall Leq values indicate a 15 to 20 dB attenuation of the rolling noise on the non-slip coating compared to the noise measured on the non-slip coating.

 In conclusion of these experiments, it is considered that the comparative tests between the two coatings were carried out in the same configuration (only the travel time may vary slightly between each test), the results of the measurements show an improvement in the acoustic qualities of the coating after incorporation of non-slip according to the invention.

 In addition, the grip of tires on such a coating is much greater and the plastic particles cannot be torn off as easily as the grains of sand used in the current state of the art.

 FIG. 7 allows a good understanding of the increase in the resistance of the film-forming composition to abrasion. The abscissas represent the number of revolutions per minute used to practice abrasion with constant force. The ordinates represent the loss of matter, expressed in grams.

 There are three well differentiated curves from each other.

The composition of the upper curve is very sensitive to abrasion. It is a composition of the state of the art, namely a colorless undercoat associated with two layers of colored polyurethane paint. The intermediate curve also includes a colorless sublayer associated with a layer of polyurethane paint colored with PVC, according to the invention, and over a layer of colored polyurethane paint. Finally, the lower curve comprises a layer of polyurethane paint colored with PVC, according to the invention, which is sandwiched between two colorless layers.

 It is noted that the two film-forming compositions which use PVC are much more resistant to abrasion than a conventional composition. This is also true if we incorporate grains of sand into this classic painting.

 This process according to the invention therefore essentially consists in mixing the plastic particles with additives, in allowing the solvent for the additives to act vis-à-vis the plastic particles, and in mixing the powder obtained with a paint of whatever kind. is.

 Depending on the diameter of the original plastic particles and the diameter of the particles which it is desired to obtain at the level of the film-forming composition, this time of bringing the plastic particles into contact with the solvent will be increased or decreased.

 In fact, plastic particles, such as PVC, are not packaged alone, additives such as dispersants or wetting agents are added to them which will facilitate the incorporation of this paste into the paint containing at least one solvent, or the dispersants having no softening action or agglomeration of said particles. As a result, there will be an almost instantaneous, stable mixture without segregation.

 As other additives, resin and a solvent are used.

 The application can be carried out with a roller without any special precautions. In addition, the non-slip surface will be regular and there will be a perfect bond between the non-slip particles and the paint.

 There is therefore no longer any risk of microperforation under the effect of the circulation, the tires being unable to tear off the PVC grains from the paint, said grains being incorporated therein.

 The qualities of this coating will therefore consist of an increase in grip on dry or wet ground, an increase in abrasion resistance, a reduction in rolling noise and greater safety for pedestrians in the event of a fall. level of treated areas.

Measurement of the coefficient of friction with or without additive
Anyway, the ease of dispersion is a constant linked to the presence of wetting or dispersing agents inside this paste.

 The variable elements may lie in the choice of the quality of the dough relative to the medium in which it is to be dispersed. For example, for an epoxy type paint, a resin or epoxy type binder will be used.

For a polyurethane paint, use a paste of alkyd or dioctylphthalate or dibutylphthalate type. The mixture between the paint and the paste is carried out before use. If the time is too long before this use, there is a risk of sedimentation of the PVC granules.

 Among the composition, the presence of an unsaturated polycarboxylic acid salt is noted, which makes it possible to combat the interfacial tension which is exerted between the pigments and the aggregates, on the one hand, and the binder, on the other hand.

 It thus makes it possible to facilitate the dispersion of the particles in the binder, for example during the manufacture of the paste, to avoid the sedimentation of the particles in the binder and subsequently promotes good spreading of the final coating.

 It is also possible to add a solution of a blocked copolymer comprising groups having a high affinity for pigments. This copolymer, like plastics, has a percentage which is variable depending on the nature of the pigment. If the pigment is mineral, its proportion is 8 to 10%, if the pigment is organic, this proportion can go up to 30%. The addition of blocked copolymer improves the wetting of the pigments and avoids the tendency to flotation when mixing inorganic and organic pigments.

 Plastics come from recycled products with a purity greater than 99.9 g compared to the original product.
