Abstract

The anchor consists of two threaded components (A,B) which fit one inside the other, with the final turns of component (A) causing the expansion of vanes created by vertical slits in component (B). Component (A) is made from six segments - a hexagonal head (3) with a hole (2) through it to receive the surgical wire (C), a shoulder and neck and a smooth truncated conical section to expand the vanes, a threaded segment and a pointed tip. Component (B) is hollow and cylindrical, with a rough outer surface and two, three or four vertical slits covering the upper two-thirds of its length. It has an upper section which extends to below the level of the slits, and a lower threaded section to receive component (A).
