Abstract

The moulding of ceramic cups in a single operation utilises two simultaneous compression operations. Pressing between two dies the bottom parts, and pressing the bowl and the handles inside an elastomer membrane. The moulding cavity (1) is constituted from a steel sleeve on which are fixed two covers (2,3). Inside the sleeve is an elastomer membrane (4) whose shape determines, after isostatic compression, the shape of the cup bowl and handle. Compression fluid enters through a pipe (5). The upper die (6) descends as far as its support collar (7) onto the cover (2).A bottom ring (12) is fixed to a plate (10), the assembly sliding relative to the lower die (8). In its top position this die is stopped by its collar (14), its travel being limited by the cumulative thicknesses of the plate and the wedges (9). When the lower die has descended to its low position it can be withdrawn and the moulded part withdrawn in the direction of the arrow (F).
