Mais dans cette disposition connue, d'une part les deux parties de l'échangeur sont séparées par une plaque dont le contour nécessite une étanchéité supérieure pour l'huile et une étanchéité inférieure pour l'eau, et d'autre part les nervures de la partie supérieure délimitent avec la plaque un trajet sinueux pour l'huile, ce qui provoque une perte de charge pour l'écoulement dans le circuit de lubrification et un risque de cavitation en amont de la pompe de ce circuit.
