Abstract

The prosthesis consists of a shank (2) with a recess in its upper end to receive a movable neck (8) which connects with a spherical head (13). The recess in the shank's upper end is elliptical in section, and has a blind hole in its base to receive a tip on the end of the neck. The neck has a truncated conical base of elliptical cross-section to fit into the cavity. Its upper end can be offset in any direction or at any angle.

Description

The invention relates to a hip prosthesis.

I1 already exists hip prostheses, modular type, which are provided to be adapted according to the particular geometric characteristics of each joint to operate.

FR-A-2. 626.168: the invention relates to a hip prosthesis, of the modular type, designed to be adapted as a function of the particular geometric characteristics of each joint to be operated.

The prosthesis comprises a rod of appropriate length, the upper part of which comprises a housing for a collar designed to receive a spherical head, and a cup cooperating with the rod and which can be oriented or anchored in the acetabulum.

Previously, hip prostheses did not have a removable collar. The site had to be prepared by development and manufacturing operations.

The prosthesis allows the realization of all kinds of different joints whatever the dimensions and without the need to make any particular or complex modifications.

-FR-A-2.636.837: the invention describes a hip prosthesis which comprises an elongated body of substantially elliptical section, tapering towards its lower end and defining in its upper part a cone designed to receive a small head coupling, said elongated body comprising an intermediate wall of constant profile whatever the dimensions of the prosthesis and a side wall whose profile varies as a function of said dimensions.

The upper part of the elongated body has grooves.

The grooves are formed around the entire periphery of the elongated body, and extend over a third of its total length.

The coupling heads have a housing of variable depth according to the length of the cone neck of the elongated body.

The angle between the longitudinal axis of the elongated body and the longitudinal axis of the cone increases with the dimensions of said elongated body.

The angle between the longitudinal axis of the body and the longitudinal axis of the cone is between 1329 and 142Q.

- Patent application no-92 00427 filed in FRANCE on 01/13/92: the invention describes a hip prosthesis of the type comprising a metal dome, which is capable of being fixed by screws in the pelvis of a patient, which dome receives a plastic core, at least part of the external face of which matches at least part of the internal face of said dome, characterized in that said core comprises a cavity, which can receive the head of a rod which can be fixed to the femur of said patient, said rod is provided with a fixed cone, said "walrus" cone which receives the prosthetic heads which enter the nucleus, the cervico-diaphyseal angle increases according to the size of the rod.

The hip prosthesis according to the invention is of the type comprising a rod of suitable length, with in its upper part a housing for receiving a removable neck intended to be fixed to a spherical head, and a cup cooperating with said rod and designed to be cemented or anchored in the acetabulum.

The upper part of the rod has a substantially elliptical cavity, a blind hole forms a housing formed in the central part of said cavity, one end of the removable neck is anchored in said housing and the other end of said removable neck is designed to be connected to a spherical head to cooperate with a cup which can be fixed in the acetabulum of the pelvis.
