Abstract

The table is constructed with a conventional arrangement, but with a metal insert running longitudinally along its upper surface close to one edge. The insert is in the form of a profiled aluminium@ bar (1) of T-shaped cross-section, including a central vertical slot (2) dimensioned to receive the blade of a knife or similar cutting tool. The slot is typically approx. 0.8mm wide, with slightly chamfered edges at its open upper face. The longitudinal axis of the slot is parallel to the edge frame of the table, and at a distance of approx. 5cm from the edge. The flanges of the aluminium@ bar are set into the table surface, such that its upper surface is flush with the table top.
