Abstract

At least three layers of cellulose-based material are superposed, with a number of perforations (5,6) passing through them. The upper layer (2) contacts a food item to be packaged and is formed of water- and greaseproof material. The lower layer (4) is formed of an absorbent material which collects juices and other liquids emanating from the food and passing through the perforations in the upper layer. Between the upper and lower layers is an intermediate layer (3) of transversely-corrugated material, e.g. paper or cardboard.

Description

Non-insulating monobloc laminate trim and its manufacturing process.

The present invention relates to a non-insulating one-piece laminate lining intended to be placed in, or to constitute, the bottom of food packaging for the absorption of exudates flowing from the contents.

Many trays exist to date to allow the conservation of food products. These trays, however, have a number of drawbacks. Indeed, they do not always make it possible to avoid contact between the exudate and the food product, in particular during the turning or packaging of the product. In addition, due to the materials used, the food product is isolated from the external environment, preventing any heat transfer, in particular any cooling of its face in contact with the packaging material. Therefore, a temperature gradient unfavorable for the preservation of the latter is created inside the product. It is often found that the temperature of the top face of the food product is lower than that of the bottom face. Among the above-mentioned problems, some have been solved by means of suitable packings or packaging trays.

Thus, patent FR-A-2,586,653 describes a packaging container provided with a double bottom and comprising means for keeping the food away from the exudate. The double bottom of this tray consists of a perforated upper layer generally made of plastic, an intermediate layer made of an absorbent material, said absorbent material being enveloped with a layer of air so as not to hinder its swelling. when it is impregnated with exudate and a grooved lower layer of impermeable plastic, said grooves having the function on the one hand of constituting the support for the absorbent material, on the other hand, of recovering the exudate at their bottom. Such a tray, if it responds to the problem of isolating the exudate from the food product, does not in any way constitute a recyclable assembly and also has a high manufacturing cost.

This lining takes the form of a cushion constituting an envelope whose faces are kept apart by means of spacers. The envelope is filled using an absorbent product which fixes the liquid or exudate. The envelopes are perforated so as to allow the exudate to penetrate and be absorbed by the interior of the envelope. Again, in this packing, the manufacturing costs are high because of the complexity of the assembly which requires welding and injection operations which are expensive operations.

Finally, other much simpler fittings, which constitute basic fittings are, for example, described in patent FR-A-2,655,027. In this case, the filling consists of a front made of perforated waterproof material and a back made of an absorbent material, the front being intended to be in contact with the food product, while the back constituting the lower layer allows recovery of exudate. The whole is secured to the bottom of the tray. In this case, there is no means of separation between the front and back and, therefore, the exudate is easily brought back into contact with the food product, which can cause significant bacteriological problems due to contamination of the product.

The object of the present invention is therefore to propose a filling which overcomes the aforementioned drawbacks, this non-insulating one-piece laminate lining being inexpensive, easily recyclable, being able to be produced by simple pressing and gluing operations and ensuring the separation of the food product and exudate.

To this end, the invention relates to a monobloc laminate lining intended to be placed in, or to constitute, the bottom of food packaging for the absorption of exudates flowing from the content, characterized in that it comprises at least three layers superimposed, cellulose-based, provided with perforations arranged facing each other, the upper layer in contact with the food product called the front being made of a material impermeable to water and grease, the lower layer called the back being made of a material absorbent intended to recover the exudates flowing from the food product through the perforations of the stack, the lower and upper layers being kept apart from each other by a sufficient distance to avoid any contact of the exudate with the food product by means of an intermediate layer formed of micro-grooves of appropriate height.

According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the upper layer consists of a cardboard, the intermediate layer of a corrugated cardboard, the lower layer of a blotter.

The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing a one-piece liner intended in particular to be placed in the bottom of food packaging, characterized in that the lower layer and the intermediate layer of said liner are assembled by gluing, it is compressed with by means of a pressing member, the upper layer glued to the previously made stack, the stack is pierced through in various places on its surface, then the assembly is placed on the bottom of an appropriate package.

The invention will be clearly understood on reading the following description of exemplary embodiments, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which
Figure 1 shows a top view of a
packing according to the invention; and
Figure 2 shows a sectional view of the packing
of figure 1.

The laminate lining, object of the invention, is a mono-material complex based on cellulose that is fully recyclable and biodegradable. This one-piece filling is intended to be placed in the bottom of food packaging or to constitute the bottom so as to allow the absorption of exudates flowing from the contents of the packaging. Due to its composition, this filling can be in direct contact with the product while having a high power of absorption and retention of liquids.

In accordance with FIG. 2, this lining 1 comprises at least three superposed layers 2, 3, 4, based on cellulose, provided with through holes 5.

The upper layer 2, in contact with the food product, called the front, is made of a material impermeable to water and to grease. In addition, this greasy, non-stick material is treated against moisture.

Thus, by way of example, the visible or front face of this upper layer 2 can be produced from a coated multi-jet cardboard which is very strongly bonded and greasable. The other side will be treated bleached chemical pulp. The grammage may vary according to the desired rigidity.

The lower layer 4, called the back, consists of an absorbent material intended to recover the exudates flowing from the food product through perforations 5 of the stack. This lower layer 4 is preferably formed by a blotting paper whose essential characteristic will reside in its capacity to absorb water. By way of example, the average value of the absorption may be of the order of 1610 g / m2. In certain cases, the lower layer 4 may be lined with a bottom-forming material always based on cellulose so as to constitute the whole of the bottom-forming face of the packaging.

The intermediate layer 3, which keeps the upper 2 and lower 4 layers spaced from each other by a sufficient distance to avoid contact of the exudate with the food product, is formed of micro or small grooves of appropriate height . Generally, this intermediate layer 3 consists of corrugated cardboard, the corrugations of which consist of transverse grooves projecting upwards. Depending on the grammage and the wave coefficient chosen for this corrugated board, there will be a height and therefore a variable spacing between the lower 4 and upper 2 layers. This choice of the intermediate layer will also play a role in the final stiffness properties of the garnish.

The perforations 5 are, in turn, of any shape and size. Some of these perforations, such as circular holes 6, can be used to fix the gasket in the bottom of the packaging.

For the production of such a one-piece laminate lining 1, the procedure is generally as follows. The lower layer 4 and the intermediate layer 3 are superimposed and assembled by bonding, the upper layer 2 glued is placed on and pressed on the visible face of the intermediate layer of the previously made pile and the pile is pierced through on minus part of its surface.
