Abstract

Compsns. with antifatigue activity and for facilitating wt. loss contain an extract of Chinese or American ginseng root and an extract of Brazilian or Colombian guarana seeds. The compsns. contain 4-20 (esp. 9-15) wt.% ginsenosides from the ginseng extract and 4-20 (esp. 9-15) wt.% caffeine from the guarana extract. The extracts are in powder form. The compsns. are formulated as capsules, syrups, solns., instant drink powders, aq. suspensions or tablets.

Description

The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical or dietetic coeposition used for its anti-fatigue properties and to facilitate weight loss.

Its properties are due to the combination of two products:
Ginseng and Guarana.

Ginseng (Panax ginseng CA Meyer) or Chinese Ginseng is a herbaceous plant of the Araliaceae family, native to the Far East: China, Korea. It is considered more active than the
American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius). Its root is used in pharmacy, dietetics and cosmetology for its stimulating, toning, rebalancing and revitalizing properties. The difference in color between the red and white ginseng root is only due to the different drying process.

These properties result from its composition: the ginseng root contains trace elements, among which iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, etc ...; a large number of vitamins: B1, B2, PP, B5, B6, C, and E. It also contains enzymes: amylase and a phenolase.

The root of Panax ginseng contains amino acids and peptides: proline, glycine, alanine, cysteine, tyrosine, arginine, lysine, asparagine acid, threonine, serine, glutamic acid, leucine, valine and histidine; sterols and fatty acids, an essential oil: panasen.

The activity of the ginseng root results from the association of these components which make it possible to supply the organism with vitamins and trace elements, to promote certain metabolisms and to improve the general tone.

Experiments have shown its stimulating activity with a significant increase in survivability and resistance to stress in general, its invigorating activity with improvement in physical, intellectual, mental and sexual capacities, its revitalizing activity with a feeling of well-being. and its rebalancing activity of certain metabolisms (slightly hypoglycemic at high dose by potentiating the activity of insulin) and certain organic functions (circulatory system, antidiuretic, stimulates the adrenal cortex).

Ginseng root therefore appears to be a good adaptogen which helps to combat fluctuations in the environment, working conditions and existence. It is a general tonic: physical and psychic.

The Guarana (Paullinia cupana H.B.K.) is a woody climbing plant, leaning on neighboring trees to climb, thus reaching heights close to 10 m and more. Grana is native to the upper Amazon basin. It is grown in Brazil, Paraguay, Colombine, Venezuela and Urugay. The seeds are used to prepare a stimulating drink. The drug also has anti-diarrheal and neuralgic properties. It is used to calm abdominal pains of digestive origin, in transient states of fatigue and to facilitate weight loss in addition to dietary measures.

Its properties result from its composition: the guarana seed contains minerals and trace elements: phosphates, potassium, calcium, magnesium, sodium, manganese, copper, zinc, iron ...; starch and sugars.

The characteristic constituents are derivatives of xanthic bases: 3 to 5 percent by weight of caffeine, traces of theophylline and theobromine.

Caffeine has stimulating, fortifying properties. Locally, it eliminates fat.

The composition according to the present invention is essentially characterized in that it contains as active principles an extract of ginseng and an extract of guarana.

According to the present invention, the composition contains, as active ingredients, an extract of ginseng root in an amount of approximately 4 to 20% by weight of ginsenosides, as well as an extract of guarana seed in an amount of about 4% to 20% by weight of caffeine.

To obtain an optimization of the activity of its extracts, it is advisable to use a ginseng root extract whose ginsenoside content is between 9 and 15% by weight and a guarana seed extract whose caffeine content is between 9 and 15% by weight, independently of the amounts of extracts per formula.

For a dosage unit, the composition may contain a mixture of ginseng and guarana extracts, the ginsenoside content of which, respectively caffeine, may be between 4 and 20% by weight of each extract, preferably a content of 9 to 15 % by weight of ginsenosides, respectively caffeine.

Ginseng root can be sprayed, dried or presented as a dry extract (nebulizer), soft extract, fluid extract or liquid extract (aqueous, alcoholic, tincture or other).

The guarana seed can be pulverized, desiccated or presented in dry extract (nebulizer), soft extract, fluid extract or liquid extract (aqueous, alcoholic, tincture or other).

The composition is presented, preferably in the form of capsules containing the two active ingredients. However, it can also be in the form of syrup, solute, preparation for instant drink or aqueous suspension, or even A in the form of solid preparations, such as effervescent or chewable tablets, film-coated or coated, powder, granulated or in the form of soft or hard capsules, such as gelatin capsules.

The following nonlimiting examples illustrate compositions according to the invention.

The tablets are then film-coated with a mixture of eudragit L and
S and red and black iron oxide (E 172).

RKYKNDICATIONS  1. Composition having an anti-fatigue activity and to facilitate weight loss, characterized in that it contains an extract of Chinese or American ginseng root and an extract of Brazilian or Colombian guarani seed.  2. Composition (according to claim 1) characterized in that the extracts of ginseng root and guarana seed can be in powder form.  3. Composition (according to claim 1) characterized in that it contains a content of 4 to 20% by weight of ginsenosides dosed in the powder or extract of ginseng root and a content of 4% to 20% by weight of caffeine dosed in guarana powder or extract.  4. Composition according to claim 3 characterized in that it preferably contains a content of 9 to 15% by weight of ginsenosides in 1 ginseng extract and a content of 9 to 15% caffeine in guarana extract.  5. Composition according to claims 1, 2, 3 or 4 presented in the form of capsules, syrup, solute, preparation for instant drink or aqueous suspension, solid preparations, such as effervescent or chewable tablets, film-coated or sugar-coated, powdered, or in the form of soft or hard capsules, such as gelatin capsules.
