Abstract

The use of ordinary buttons requires the creation of a cut in the fabric, known as a buttonhole, which damages the weft of the fabric, requires the creation of a hemmed edge in thread to protect the fabric, which requires a hand of rather important work.

In addition, the button must itself be fixed by a thread of a length which leaves the thickness of the fabric and is rewound on itself. If this wire breaks, the user must sew the button and if, on this occasion, the button is lost, it must use an identical button to supply. It is to overcome these drawbacks that the present invention is designed.

The invention comprises a set of two elements: a fixed element, attached to the garment, turned outwards, and showing the two ends of a magnet concealed in the mass (of plastic, for example) of the element The second element comprises an apparent metal part, intended to close the magnetic circuit, and is attached to the other part of the garment, so as to come into contact with the first when closing. When the user wants to close his garment, it is sufficient to apply the two elements against each other so that the magnetic attraction ensures close contact.

The opening is made by pulling on the two parts of the garment which must be separated, the outer element having a button or any other device to grasp it to provide the necessary traction.

According to an advantageous variant of the invention, the two elements are of conical shape, one in hollow, the other in relief so that the two elements are located one in the other at the moment of their rapprochement. Finally, another variant, applicable to the two arrangements described above, consists in making the outer element of the device movable by rotation, so as to enable the magnet poles and the metal plate to be cooiicidered or put out of contact with each other. a simple rotation. This avoids the tension between the two parts of fabric to be separated during the opening, since the rotation makes it possible to separate the metal plate and the poles of the magnet, whereas in the closed state, the plate placed on them closes the magnetic circuit and thus ensures the maintenance.

The accompanying drawings illustrate this last variant of the invention, the first two being simplifications of that one. They represent a magnetic button 1 year in diameter; for clarity, they are enlarged to 5/1 scale.
