Abstract

In a socket implant with a metallic base plate (1) accommodating a polyethylene face plate (2), the novelty is that the base plate (1) has a much reduced thickness and has bottom projections (1b) allowing integration of fasteners (3) which cooperate esp. with the spongy material of the socket. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. as a shoulder prosthesis. The thickness of the metallic base plate can be minimised in a simple, safe, effective and rational manner.
