Abstract

Compsn. comprises 99.9% colourant-free 70% (denatured) alcohol and 0.1% orthopehenylphenol (I) (1g (I) per l. of 70% alcohol). USE/ADVANTAGE - For disinfecting surfaces in operating areas of medical and dental surgeries. Disinfectant compsn. has a wide range of activity against gram + and gram + bacteria, viruses and fungi. Compsn. is free from halogenated phenols so in ecologically benign. Compsn. is pref. sprayed onto the surfaces to be disinfected and dries rapidly, reducing the prepn. time between each patient.

Description

The present invention relates to a surface disinfectant for medical and dental use
Chemical formula :
Denatured alcohol at 70% (no coloring) + 0.1% ortho-phenyl-phenol
(phenyl-2-phenol)
Either for a liter of product: 1 liter of 70% alcohol + 1 gr of ortho-phenyl-phenol powder
Components: 1) 70% ethanol: maximum effect at this concentration
Dries quickly on surfaces
Only it is not active on spores, effective on viruses (except not enveloped
Effective on gram + and gram - 2 germs) Phenol: known for a century
They often enter into the composition of surface disinfectants I1 is active on bacteria (gram +, gram -), enveloped viruses and yeasts I1 is not active on spores.

The presence of radicals on the phenol nucleus varies the activity of the phenol (among others, the position C5 and C7 varies the efficacy and the tolerance).

Phenols have a higher activity at acid pH than at basic pH I1 is relatively insoluble in water and its chemical reactivity is important for
This has resulted in complex formulations based on anionic detergents and alkaline bases
Non-halogenated phenols are preferred for ecological and toxicological reasons (which is the case for ortho-phenylphenol) 1) Definition of a surface disinfectant
Disinfection of the operating site is necessary before and after the intervention. If this is obvious in a hospital environment, it must become a reflex in private practices.
Dentistry provides the best example
During an intervention, following the use of the micro-motor turbine, cooling spray, descaling device, etc., a septic aerosol is formed around the operating site and will deposit in a radius of 1 m 20 around it. If in addition, manipulations of drawers, telephone doors, X-ray equipment took place, contamination by hands was significant
This blood, this pus and these organic materials are a microbial vector to eliminate. It is necessary after each intervention to disinfect the care area.
If the rotary instruments (turbines, CA.) can be disinfected with wet wipes, a large spectrum disinfectant spray is required for large surfaces
This spray must have optimal covering power (dense spray and the finest possible droplets. It should be known that phenolic derivatives which act in the presence of organic materials are preferable to aldehydes with slower action.
Drying must be quick and helped by the passage of a paper towel
At the end of the day, a disinfecting mist will be applied without wiping: this reduces any microbial pollution and prevents proliferation during the night.
OPTIMUM combines the overall effectiveness of a disinfectant with the speed of drying and the ease of use 2) Essential characteristics It requires a broad spectrum of activity
We must insist on the overall effectiveness of the disinfectant because we must provide a solution to all of the known and unknown risks and we must fight against all resistant or fragile infectious agents
It must comply with bacteriological, viral tests ...

For this, AFNOR standards are useful. Quick drying is necessary (advantage of ethanols) in order to be able to shorten the times between each patient.

I1 requires ease of use (ready to mist) in a sprayer having a dense and fine spray ~.

There is a need to maintain the effectiveness of the product in the medium term.
