Abstract

Compsns. contg. a vasodilator, such as minoxidil and an agent having dermatological properties, esp. keratolytic properties, are new. The vasodilator may be minoxidil itself (6-(1-piperidinyl)- 2,4-pyrimidine diamine-3-oxide), or one of its active derivs. Pref. keratolytic agents are retinoic acid, salicylic acid, trichloroacetic acid, resorcinol, phenol, and their derivs. (esters, amides, aldehydes). Pref. the compsns. contain an anti-dandruff agent such as coal tar or an active extract of this. The amt. of vasodilator present is pref. in the range 1-3% by volume, esp. 1.5-2.5%, whilst the keratolytic agent is 0.015-0.050% by volume, esp. 0.02-0.03%. If a coal tar is present this is 0.025-5% by volume, esp. 0.05-2%. The compsns. may be formulated as water/alcohol solns., pomades, or shampoos. USE - Prevention of hair loss, and an aid to the regrowth of hair and nails.
