Abstract

The device according to the invention, intended to facilitate the detection of corrosion in a fluid installation, is characterised in that it consists of a metal indicator element (1) placed in the installation, in contact with the fluid (A), and having greater sensitivity to corrosion than the active parts of the installation.

Description

The present invention relates to a device intended to facilitate the detection of corrosion in a fluid installation.

Such an installation, with an open or closed fluid circuit, conveys a fluid capable of causing corrosion conditions of at least certain elements of this installation, for example tubes, pipes, fittings, exchangers, pumps, valves , heaters, etc.

In this type of installation, for example central heating, hot water supply or cooling, the inevitable phenomenon of corrosion over time is all the more troublesome since it is difficult to detect because it affects the internal parts of the installation and that, when the corrosion has reached a certain degree, it creates considerable damage to the installation, causing it to stop and the replacement of corroded parts.

The object of the invention is to remedy this drawback by providing a simple, reliable and economical device making it possible to easily detect corrosion before it reaches a dangerous level.

To this end, the device according to the invention is characterized in that it is constituted by a metallic control element placed in the installation, in contact with the fluid, and having a greater sensitivity to corrosion than the active parts of the 'installation.

Thanks to such a device, it is possible to monitor the evolution of the corrosion present on the interior surface of the active parts of the installation by a simple visual observation or a simple weighing carried out regularly on the control element in order to note the degree of corrosion, degree being greater than the degree of corrosion of the active parts of the installation, which allows an effective and timely intervention on the fluid conveyed by the installation when the corrosion observed on the control element reaches a predetermined level.

The invention will be clearly understood on reading the following description of an embodiment of the device according to the invention and with reference to the appended drawing, the single figure of which is a schematic cross-section of this exemplary embodiment.

There is schematically shown in the single figure a metallic control element 1 which is placed in an installation, in contact with the moving fluid shown diagrammatically by the arrow
A. This metallic control element 1 has a greater sensitivity to corrosion than the active parts of the installation, these parts possibly being those which have been listed above.

In an installation where the fluid conveyed is water, for example a central heating installation, hot water production or cooling, the active parts of the installation are made of steel and, in this case, the control element 1 is made of mild steel.

The control element 1 is mounted on the inside of a support 2, this support itself being an active part of the installation in contact with the fluid A. The control element 1 is mounted on its support 2 in any case appropriately, for example by being suspended or, as shown, by being mounted flat by any suitable mechanical means.

To allow easy regular inspection of the control element 1, the support 2 is mobile or removable, being easily accessible from the outside; for example, the support 2 can be a filter cover.

Because the control element 1 is easily corroded, it is mounted on its support 2 so that it can be easily removed and replaced by a new element.

In the example shown, the control element 1 is simply constituted by a rectangular metal plate a few centimeters in side and a thickness of the order of 2 mm.

As a variant of the removable nature of the support 2, it is possible to provide a visual observation of the control element 1 by transparency of a wall of an element of the installation, which avoids the opening of the installation and its stopping.

By visual observation or by weighing the control element 1, corrosion can be detected, which manifests itself, in the usual way, by an oxidative action, bacterial or acid, this corrosion of the control element 1 being always greater than that active parts of the installation, which allows intervention on the fluid or cleaning of the installation before corrosion of the latter becomes too troublesome.

Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiment, nor to the mode of application, which have been described; on the contrary, we could conceive of various variants, without departing from its framework.
