Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to snowboarding with asymmetrical dimension lines.
For snowboarding as for a ski, we call (international standard ISO 6289) "dimension line" the line, defined by the outer edge of the lower edge, which represents the lateral contour of the ski (and, by extension, snowboard or monoski) in the area between the front maximum width point and the rear maximum width point. In practice, this is therefore the positioning of the edges of the lower edges (metal edges which border the bearing surface), relative to the median longitudinal axis of the ski. In accordance with the international standard ISO 6289, the front and rear contact lines of the sole are respectively the front limit and the rear limit of the contact area of the underside of the ski (and, by extension, of the snowboard or the monoski) on a flat surface, the ski being applied to this surface.
The part of the dimension lines limited by the two contact lines, front and rear, may be called "active dimension line". It is this active part which, by cutting the snow, allows the ski to register in its trajectory.
Unlike skiing and monoskiing, the sliding board that constitutes snowboarding is used asymmetrically, the user not having his body, and therefore his feet, directed along the longitudinal axis of the board but placed strongly at an angle to it. The surfer is placed at an angle to his board with either, for people on the right foot ("regular foot"), the right foot back and the left foot forward, or, for people on the left foot ( "goofy foot), the left foot back and the right foot forward. The spacing of the feet depends on the morphology of the user, and essentially on his size. The feet are generally not strictly perpendicular to the axis of the surf, but they are more or less turned towards the front of the latter, this orientation being indicated by an angle measured from the perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the surf. This orientation can generally vary, for the rear foot, between 0 and 40 degrees approximately and, for the front foot, between 10 and 45 degrees, the position most in favor today with many good surfers being the so-called intermediate position. 10 th t
15 degrees. front leg: angle of orientation between 30 and 45
degrees.
Editions Glénat, 1988, pages 90 et 91.Anyway, the surfer has his body askew with respect to the machine and the direction of its movement. The turns are taken either by leaning the body forward, in the direction of the toes (we say more simply on the spikes or "front-side"), or by leaning the body back, in the direction of the heels ( or "back-side"). The surfer's center of gravity therefore moves along an axis whose orientation is substantially bisecting the angle formed by his two feet. The construction of the snowboards, which originally focused on symmetrical ( like wave surfing and skateboards), today tends to be more and more oriented towards asymmetrical side lines, and there are already some printed publications going in this meaning, in particular - the article in the French magazine "WIND SURF NEIGE",
Special issue 11, 1989, page 20: "Scoop: the surf
total "- document EP-A-0325 546 - the work by J. Maruzzi and JF Causse" Snowboarding ",
Editions Glénat, 1988, pages 90 and 91.
In particular, as indicated in this last book, the current demand is for surfboards whose dimension line on the toe side (front-side) is made shorter than the dimension line on the heel side (back-side), which is currently the case. made by cutting obliquely the heel of the surf (see the drawing of an asymmetrical board given on page 90 of this book).
ou "goofy".The drawback of this known embodiment of snowboarding with asymmetrical dimension lines, shorter dimension line on the point side than on the heel side, or another embodiment in which the two dimension lines are offset longitudinally , lies in the fact that it is then necessary to provide, for a given size, two types of asymmetrical surfboards a heel board at an angle with the tip on the side
left of the surf for the surfer on the right director foot,
or "regular"; and a skewed heel board with the toe on the side
right of the surf for the surfer on the left director foot,
or "goofy".
It is therefore necessary for the manufacturer to provide two different productions, and in particular two types of molds, and this for each size. It is therefore, for the retailer as well as for this manufacturer, necessary to plan and manage a sufficient stock of these two types of boards.
The invention aims to remedy this drawback, and consequently proposes a snowboard with asymmetrical dimension lines which can be sold both to surfers with straight, or "regular" steer feet, as well as to surfers with steep feet left, or "goofy", with, in one case as in the other, possibility of arranging the fixings in such a way that the dimension line on the point side, or "front-side", is shorter than the dimension line on the side heel, or "back-side". It relates for this purpose to a snowboard totally symmetrical with respect to its transverse median axis and therefore having two spatulas, one at the front and one at the rear, the contact lines, front or rear as the case may be, of these two spatulas making, unlike conventional spatulas, a non-zero angle with the direction orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of the board, the length of the dimension line on the point side feet being less than the length of the l dimension on the heel side of the feet, so that by turning the board 180 degrees around its center, this surf can be used either by a user with a right steer foot, or by a user with a left steer foot.
directeur gauche, ou "goofy".In any case, the invention will be well understood, and its advantages and other characteristics will emerge during the following description of a nonlimiting exemplary embodiment, with reference to the appended schematic drawing in which. Figures 1 and 2 are respectively a side view and
a top view of this snowboard, with indication
direction of movement and position of fasteners
relating to a surfer on the right director foot, or
"regular"; and. Figure 3 shows, similar to Figure 2, the mode
use of the same surf for a user on foot
left director, or "goofy".
Referring to Figures 1 and 2, this is a snowboard 1, conventionally provided with metal lateral edges 2,3 and which has a very particular shape, being both asymmetrical with respect to its longitudinal axis 4 and symmetrical with respect to its median transverse axis 5 orthogonal to this axis 4.
In fact, this surf has two spatulas including, according to FIG. 2, a spatula 6 at the front of the board 1 and a spatula 7 at the rear of the latter, this spatula 7 constituting a raised heel, a little to the like known surfboards intended for free or "free-style" evolutions or for evolutions on slopes with raised edges or "half-pipe".
Furthermore, and this is a particularly original point, the contact lines, front 9 and rear 10, of these two "spatulas" 6 and 7 make, in contrast to ordinary spatulas and heels, a non-zero angle with a direction , respectively 11 and 12, parallel to the transverse axis 5, this angle a preferably having a maximum value of the order of about thirty degrees.
As a result, the extreme contact point of one of the edges, located on this inclined contact line, is located at a different distance (relative to the median transverse axis) from the extreme contact point of the other edge. This surf being symmetrical with respect to the median transverse axis, the active length of one edge is less than the active length of the other edge.
In FIG. 2, it is a board on which are fasteners 18, 19, each comprising a rear heel 13 and a front stop 14, and oriented for a surfer with a straight, or "regular", steering foot. In this case, and in accordance with the invention, the contact lines 9 and 10 form between them an acute angle of value 2a, the apex of which is situated to the right of the surf: the dimension line 16 on the right side, or on the point side, is then of projected length L1 less than that, L2, on the left side, or heel side, which is indeed the goal currently sought for a snowboard with asymmetrical dimension lines.
This surf, in addition to presenting this rather original way of positioning asymmetrical dimension lines, is also completely reversible, so that it can also be used, with the same advantage, with bindings for surfers with left steer feet, or goofy. It suffices to turn the board 1 180 degrees, as indicated by the arrows F, in Figure 3, around the center C, to obtain, according to this Figure 3, a surfboard for goofy (fixing the left rear foot in 18 and the right front foot in 19) which, like surfing according to Figure 2, the dimension line, 16, point side is less than that, 17, heel side. In this case, it is the element 7 which constitutes the tip of the surf 1, while the element 6 constitutes the heel.
Finally, we obtain the same result, from the point of view of the asymmetry of the dimension lines in particular, with this same board 1, in regular or goofy use. Only change the positions of the bindings depending on whether it is a regular or goofy user.
It goes without saying that the invention is not limited to the embodiment which has just been described, but on the contrary is capable of being implemented in many other equivalent forms. Thus the "tips" 6 and 7 could be more or less raised and more or less pointed as the case may be, and the angle a could be chosen to have a value substantially different from that adopted here.
