Abstract

The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of 3-alkoxy-4-hydroxybenzaldehydes from 3-halo-4-hydroxybenzaldehydes. More precisely, the invention consists of a process for the preparation of 3-alkoxy-4-hydroxybenzaldehydes by reaction of 3-halo-4-hydroxybenzaldehydes with an alkali metal alkoxide having 1 to 4 carbon atoms and in the presence of a copper compound, characterised in that the reaction is carried out in the presence of an effective amount of an unsaturated compound chosen from organic isocyanides, isocyanates or esters of alkynedioic acids.
