Abstract

The invention relates to a device intended to hold the reed necessary for producing the sounds on the mouthpieces of musical instruments of the saxophone and clarinet type. A lever arm 2, made of metal or synthetic material, connected by a spindle to a clevis 4 integral with the mouthpiece, comprises an articulated press plate 1 of suitable shape and an operating screw 3 bearing on a grain (bead) 7 machined in the mass of the mouth. According to one variant, the clevis 4, the clamp 9 and the grain are added on, in the case of a mouth made of fragile material.

Description

The present invention relates to a device intended to hold on a mouthpiece of a wind instrument of the "Wood" type in the Musical Term, and these are saxophones and clarinets, the reed necessary to produce the sounds.

This mouthpiece is normally called "Bec" in everyday parlance, this term will be retained in the drafting.

The technical application of a lever of the Second Kind in Mechanics made it possible to develop this invention.

All the mouthpieces of Wood type wind instruments defined above are provided with a flat surface on which the reed is applied.

The principle currently developed facilitates the installation of the reed, by self-centering in the longitudinal axis of the beak, while ensuring a firm hold of the reed on its base.

In addition, the tightening force is increased by the application of the lever principle assisted by a large butterfly operating screw, reinforcing the tightening torque for the user.

The support points and axes ensure easy articulation of these assemblies which work in rocking.

The device shown in the attached figure includes: Details A and B.

Reference 1: an articulated pressure plate, made of metal or synthetic material, the shape of its underside matches that of the reeds to press and hold.

In the mass of the pressure plate is provided a groove intended to center the lever arm 2 on the point of application, by virtue of a transverse axis 5 connecting the pressure plate and the lever arm.

Reference 2: the lever arm made of metal or synthetic material, receives a tapped orifice in the rear and axial part, tapping provided for the operating screw 3.

The fulcrum, in the form of a hole, receiving the axis 6.

The loosening of the screw allows the lever to open, leaving the passage of the heel of the reed for its installation as for the replacement thereof.

The screw 3 is supported on the grain 7 machined in the mass of the spout.

The clevis 4 of the fulcrum is also factory in the mass of the spout.

According to a variant B, the yoke 8 of the fulcrum, the flange 9 and the grain 10, integral with each other are added in the case of a spout made of material whose low resistance does not allow their integration.

The device according to the invention is particularly intended for maintaining the reeds of wind instruments, such as saxophones and clarinets.

The device also reduces the risk of deterioration of the reed when it is put in place.

1- Device for firmly holding the reeds of wind instruments of the saxophone and clarinet type, characterized in that it uses the technical application of the lever of the Second Genre in Mechanics. 2- Device according to claim 1, ensuring autonomy of the spout, namely that the only separate element remains the reed, the screw 3 remaining captive and the pivots and axes are strands. 3- Device according to claim 2, facilitating the establishment of the reeds by lateral self-centering, the user ensuring the maintenance of the reed under the pressure plate when he actuates the reed tightening screw on its base. 4- Device according to the preceding claim, characterized because it is made of various materials such as metals and synthetic products (PVC, resin, etc.) compatible with the nature and the timbre of the instruments concerned.
