Abstract

The invention relates to a device making it possible to propel a craft by acting directly on the water with the aid of two paddles, the device making it possible to convert a simple oscillating movement due to the action of the user into simultaneous beating of the paddles in opposite directions. It consists of a box 1 containing three bevel gears 2 and 3. The gear 2 is secured to a shaft 4 passing through the box. This shaft is moved with an oscillating movement by means of an adaptable arm 8, this arm serving to transmit the human force. The two gears 3 are secured to two coaxial shafts 5 passing through the box 1 and to which the paddles are fixed. A rotational movement of the gear 2 drives the rotational movement, in opposite directions, of the gear 3, giving rise to the beating of the paddles. The device is connected by means of a support 7 to the craft. The support 7 has the complementary role of making it possible to change the immersion depth of the device and of changing its orientation. The device according to the invention is particularly intended for propelling craft, some of which may be designed specially for this type of propulsion.
