Abstract

The subject of the invention described is an apparatus producing a flow of air loaded with water vapour, or vapour of any other appropriate liquid, which can be used in the medical treatment of inflammations of the nasal mucosa, such as rhinitis. It comprises air supply means, means for heating this air, means for vaporising water or an appropriate liquid and means for mixing this vapour with the heated air, and is characterised by the juxtaposition with the mixing chamber 4 of a settling chamber 7 separated by a grid 6, allowing the best possible homogenisation of the air/vapour mixture and the removal of condensates which can be formed.

Description

MEDICAL APPARATUS FOR TRANSMITTING A FLOW
AIR LOADED WITH WATER VAPOR
The present invention relates to air humidifiers intended to emit an air flow charged with water vapor or any other suitable liquid, such as those described in French patents n "-FR 8305486 and not FR 8409532 and used in the treatment medical inflammation of the nasal mucosa, such as rhinitis
The present invention, while respecting the general principle of the invention designated above, also provides simplifying solutions leading to the production of even simpler devices which will be of even lower price.

The invention proposed here consists of a water tank (1) with a content of the order of 0.5 liters. An evaporator (2) consists of a cylindrical resistance placed vertically surrounded by a cylinder allowing the circulation of water between this cylinder and the resistance.

The liquid water enters the evaporator from below and exits in the form of vapor via a pipe (3) placed on the upper part of the exchanger and transporting the vapor into the mixing chamber (4). The evaporator has insulation to prevent excessive heating of the water in the tank.

A stream of hot air enters the mixing chamber thanks to a fan and a temperature-regulated heating resistor (5).

The air and vapor flows are injected into the upper part of the chamber so as to create maximum turbulence by impact on the walls of this chamber.

The air-water vapor mixture passes through a grid (6) located in the lower part in a stilling chamber (7) intended to eliminate the liquid gnutelettes which could be present and to obtain a homogeneous mixture.

An outlet diffuser (8) allows the patient to inhale the mixture. The regulation set point for air heating is given by a temperature sensor placed at the outlet diffuser. -The power of the evaporator is controlled by its outlet temperature.

A safety valve finally keeps the pressure in the tank at a very low level.

The system thus conceived contains a certain number of innovations
The pressure deviations from atmospheric pressure are very small, which improves the safety of the system.

The vertical insulated vaporizer makes it possible to locate the high temperatures in the most protected part of the machine.

The position of this vaporizer (vertical and fully immersed in liquid water for its external part) allows regular production of vapor under low pressure.

4. The presence of a mixing chamber and a stilling chamber separated by a grid allows the most perfect homogenization of the air-vapor mixture and the elimination of condensates likely to form.
