Abstract

The invention relates to a wooden balustrade I for trimming furniture elements which, consisting of a row of balusters 1 joined at their head by an upper horizontal bar 2, is intended to be placed along a gallery or a balcony preformed in the said piece of furniture. This balustrade I is noteworthy in that the feet of the said balusters 1 are joined by a lower horizontal bar 3, a face 3a of which, located in a plane parallel to the plane of the balusters 1, is preformed with a re-entrant right angle alpha , forming a rabbet, to be pressed onto the edge 4a of a wooden horizontal component 4 of the piece of furniture to form the gallery or the balcony. The invention also relates to a method for producing such a wooden balustrade. Applications: wooden balustrades for kitchen furniture.

Description

WOODEN BALUSTRADE FOR THE COVERING OF FURNITURE COMPONENTS
AND METHOD FOR EXECUTING SUCH A BALUSTRADE.

 The present invention relates to furnishing articles and relates more particularly to an embodiment of a balustrade for covering furniture elements, preferably formed from a wood-based material.

 The elements of furniture, and more particularly of kitchen furniture, are often decorated with an architectural ornamentation, placed on the nude of a surface of the structure to show its forms or to characterize its style. Kitchen furniture, for example, is often fitted or fitted with a small gallery or a small balcony, the cantilevered part of which is bordered by a wooden balustrade.

Many efforts have been developed in recent years with the aim of improving techniques for making cabinetmaking articles, often respecting the evolution of society while being dependent on the spirit of their innovators. By way of examples which will illustrate these different methods of producing various furnishing articles, we will cite:
- The "coating, in particular for furniture" described is represented in French patent No. 1,178,587;
- the "sculpted appearance panel for decoration of the door or furniture face" described and represented in French patent No. 2,119,268;
- "improvements to the methods of manufacturing cabinetmaking articles" described and represented in French patent No. 2,196,886;
- the "piece of furniture" described and represented in French patent No. 2,285,537;
- The "table top improvements" described and represented in French patent No. 2,298,419;
- the "industrial woodwork manufacturing process and product obtained" described and represented in French patent No. 2,490,539;
- the "process for executing curved wooden surfaces, and devices or objects provided with such surfaces" described and represented in French patent No. 2,553,023;
- the "furniture manufacturing process aimed at improving the appearance and furniture produced by this process" described and represented in French patent No. 2,561,162;
- etc ...

According to the same objectives, the applicant proposes a wooden balustrade for covering kitchen furniture elements, capable of establishing a
Right balance between the aesthetic factor and the functional factor while preserving the traditional constituent parts of a balustrade of classic design such as this one was recalled at the beginning of this aiofre.

 To this end, the wooden balustrade of the invention, consisting of a row of balusters joined at their heads by an upper horizontal shelf, is remarkable in that the feet of the above balusters are joined by a lower horizontal shelf parallel to the first and one face of which - arranged in a plane parallel to the plane of the balusters - is preformed with a re-entrant angle of angle forming a rebate whose height is equal to the height of the edge of the edge of a horizontal piece of wood making part of the furniture to form the gallery or balcony to dress. This rebate hugs the edge of the above-mentioned wooden part on which it is assembled by gluing. This edge can then appear in the rough state because the lower shelf of the balustrade, the other faces of the rebate of which are previously molded, thus complete the finishing work on said bank.

The invention also relates to a method of executing a balustrade on a gallery or on a balcony of a piece of furniture. This process consists of:
- firstly, to prefab in the workshop a length of balustrade consisting of a row of balusters joined at their heads by a 2 rut, by an upper horizontal shelf and, at their feet on the other hand, by a horizontal shelf lower parallel to the first and one face of which, parallel to the plane of the balusters, has a rebate;
- in a second step, cutting out predetermined lengths of prefabricated balustrade according to the previous step;
- and in a third and last step, to fix on the bank of the wooden clamp of the piece of furniture to be dressed to form a gallery or a balcony, the appropriate loegUeur of prefabricated balustrade.

In this process, the prefabrication in the workshop of the balustrades of the invention consists of:
- To manufacture series of molded balusters with a tenon at their heads and a tenon at their feet,
to manufacture series of molded lower and upper shelves with a rabbet for the last and each pierced on their faces intended to be opposite, mortises intended to receive the tenons of said balusters,
- And to assemble by bonding the tenons of the balusters inside the mortises of the shelves.

In addition to the finished and attractive appearance of the wooden balustrade thus produced, the process of the invention offers many technical advantages and among these:
- a reduced number of different components which, reduced to three (a baluster and two shelves), is particularly suitable for mass production of the said balustrade,
- easy assembly of the entire balustrade on the piece of furniture which, being limited to an assembly operation, preferably by gluing, from the inside of the rebate of the lower shelf on the bank of the wooden piece forming a gallery or balcony of the furniture element, is particularly suitable for a presentation for sale of the balustrade in the form of a "kit",
- an absence of accessories for holding, assembling or fixing the balustrades on the wooden pieces of furniture elements,
- a variety of styles both for the balusters and for the shelves which can be molded very easily according to the profiles given to the balusters and shelves,
- etc ...

 The fundamental concepts of the wooden balustrade of the invention having just been mentioned above, the embodiment of a balustrade which will be described below and illustrated without implied limitation, aims to image these fundamental concepts without limiting the possible variants of execution which can be easily obtained by a skilled person specialized in the technique in question.

This description is annexed to drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a partially cut perspective view of an assembly of such a balustrade on a piece of wood of a kitchen furniture element.

 FIG. 2 is a sectional view along A of the drawing in FIG. 1.

As shown in the drawing of Figures 1 and 2, the wooden balustrade of the invention, referenced I in. as a whole, consists only of elements shaped in wood. It consists in particular of a row of balusters 1 bracing an upper shelf 2 and a lower shelf 3. The face 3a of the latter, located in a plane parallel to the
plane of the balusters 1, is preformed with a re-entrant angle of angle which
defines on the face 3a of the tablet 3 a rebate. This leafer 3a
of the shelf 3 follows the shape of the bank 4a of a horizontal part in
wood 4 associated or forming an integral part of a piece of furniture, for
example of a kitchen furniture to form with the balustrade I a balcony or
a gallery.

Thus, to finish carefully the completion of the dressing of the song
4'a from the edge 4a of the part 4 which can be presented in the raw state not
finished, just assemble by gluing the shelf 3 of the balustrade I on
said bank 4a so that the other faces 3b, 3c, 3d of the tablet 3,
molded in advance, complete the finishing of said part 4.

Preferably, the height h3 of the rebate 3a of the tablet
lower Q is equal to the height h4 of the edge 4a of the part 4 so that
said shelf 3 can fully cover the edge 4'a of the edge 4a and,
also the edge of the latter according to the depth given to the
rebate 3a.

According to the invention, the wooden balustrade I is prefabricated in series
in the workshop using only three distinct elements - baluster 1,
upper shelf 2, lower shelf 3- with a particular profile
depending on the character or style you want to give to railing I.

According to the invention, the two ends of the balusters 1 are shaped
at their heads a tenon la and at their feet a tenon lb to make them
penetrate mortises of the same rendering, practiced first
(2'b) in the upper shelf 2 and the seconds (3'd) in the shelf
lower 3, this in order to assemble said shelves 2 and 3 to said
baluster 1.

Thus, the manufacturing process in the workshop for wooden railings I,
is simple and consists
- to make a series of balusters 1 molded with a tenon la to
their heads and a tenon lb at their feet;
- to manufacture a series of lower shelves 3 molded with a
rebate 3a and to pierce, on their upper horizontal face 3d,
regularly spaced 3'd mortises; ç - to manufacture a series of upper shelves 2 molded and to
drill, on their lower horizontal face 2b, mortises 2'b spaced apart
according to the same interval as the mortises 3'd of the shelf 3;
- And to assemble by bonding the pins la and lb of the balusters 1 in
the respective mortises 2'b and 3'd provided in shelves 2 and 3.

Once the prefabrication of the balustrades I is complete, simply
cut out predetermined lengths of balustrade and assemble them, as specified below, on the edge 4a of the wooden piece 4.

 The method of the invention also makes it possible, according to a preferred embodiment characteristic of the invention, to arrange the woody bundles of the shelves 2 and 3 in the direction of the length of their profile, in particular when the latter adopt the profile an arc of a circle whose radius is equal to that of the edge 4a of the part 4. This representation in an arc of a circle of the shelves 2 and 3, as can be seen in the drawing of FIG. 1, is very easy to implement according to the method of the invention. The orientation of the woody beam in the direction of the length of the shelves 2 and 3 allows them to follow the curve of said shelves when they are bent, a notable advantage as regards the finished presentation of the molding of the visible faces 2c and 3c of shelves 2 and 3.

 It is understood that the railing I described above and shown, was for the purpose of disclosure rather than limitation. Also, it can be brought to the example of embodiment above, numerous variants aiming to improve the shape, the dimensions, the material constituting the different elements of the balustrade but without in any way altering the original and essential characteristics of the invention, taken in its spirit and in its broadest aspects.

 As it was specified at the beginning of this memo, the process of the invention as well as the resulting balustrade find numerous applications for the realization of galleries, balconies, borders of elements of kitchen furniture.

Claims (8)

 1. Wooden balustrade (I) for covering furniture elements which, consisting of a row of balusters (1) joined at their heads by an upper horizontal shelf (2), is intended to be placed along '' a gallery or balcony preformed in said furniture, CHARACTERIZED BY THE FACT THAT the feet of the above balusters (1) are joined by a lower horizontal shelf (3) including one face (3a), located in a plane parallel to the plane balusters (1), is preformed with a reentrant square angle o (forming a rebate to be pressed against the bank (4a) of a horizontal piece of wood (4) of the furniture to form the gallery or the balcony.  2. Balustrade (I) according to claim 1, CHARACTERIZED BY THE FACT WHO the height (h3) of the rebate (3a) of the lower shelf (3) is equal to the height (h4) of the edge (4a ') of the edge (4a) of the above-mentioned part (4) - & dress.  3. Balustrade according to claim 1, CHARACTERIZED BY THE FACT THAT the other faces (3b, 3c, 3d) of the lower shelf (3) are molded.  4. Balustrade according to claim 1, CHARACTERIZED BY THE FACT THAT the two lower shelves (3) and upper (2) adopt the profile of an arc of a circle whose radius is identical to that of the edge (4a ') of the shore (4a) of the above wooden part (4).  5. Method of carrying out a balustrade (I) on a wooden piece (4) of a piece of furniture to form a gallery or a balcony, according to any one of claims 1 to 5, CHARACTERIZED IN THAT 'it consists:  - Firstly, to prefabricate in the workshop a length of balustrade (I) consisting of a row of balusters (1) joined at their heads on the one hand, by an upper horizontal shelf (2) and, at their feet d 'other hand, by a lower horizontal shelf (3) parallel to the first and one face (3a), parallel to the plane of the balusters (1), is mnagXe of a rebate,  - in a second step, to cut predetermined lengths of prefabricated balustrade (I),  - And in a third and final step, to be fixed on the edge (4a) of the wooden piece (4) of the piece of furniture to be dressed to form a gallery or balcony, the appropriate length of prefabricated balustrade (I).  7. Method according to claim 6, CHARACTERIZED IN THAT the prefabrication in the workshop of the railings (I) consists of:  - to manufacture series of molded balusters (1) with a tenon (la) at their heads and a tenon (lb) at their feet,  - to manufacture a series of lower shelves (3) molded with a rebate (3a) and to pierce, on their upper horizontal face (3d), mortises (3'd) regularly spaced,  - manufacturing a series of upper shelves (2) molded and drilling, on their lower horizontal face (2b), mortises (2'b) spaced at the same interval as the mortises (3'd) of the tablet (3 ),  - And to assemble by bonding the tenons (la and lb) of the balusters (1) in the respective mortises (2'b and 3'd) formed in the shelves (2 and 3).  8. Method according to claim 6, CHARACTERIZED IN THAT it consists in fixing by gluing the lower shelf (3) of the balustrade (I) on the bank (I) of the wooden part (4) to be clad of said piece of furniture.
