Abstract

Method for removing the mud from artificial lakes consisting in sucking up the mud by means of a pipe 4, the outlet orifice of which emerges well below the level of the lake in which the suction orifice is located, the highest part of the said pipe being located below the mean lower level 6 of the lake 2. The suction orifice is provided with a suction dredger 5 which can be moved along the bottom 3 of the lake, the part of the pipe running from the suction dredger to a point near the retaining dam 1 being flexible.

Description

The present invention relates to a method for silting up artificial lakes.

All rivers carry alluvial deposits, especially during floods. When an artificial dam is built on a river a lake is formed and alluvium is deposited in the latter with all the disadvantages that this presents.

Two methods are currently used to de-silt artificial lakes
The first method consists in emptying the lake and then removing the deposited sediments using standard equipment.

The second method is used when due to its size it is not possible to empty the lake. In this case, the bottom of the lake is dredged from devices floating on its surface.

This method is very expensive and ineffective because the mud suspended in the water escapes the dredger buckets.

The method of the invention consists in aspirating the mud using a pipe, the outlet of which opens out well below the level of the retaining lake, the upper part of the pipe being located below the level lower middle of the lake.

The invention will be better understood from the description which follows, made with reference to the accompanying drawings by way of indicative example only, in which
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of a dam showing the implementation of the method of the invention
Figure 2 is a sectional and perspective view illustrating an embodiment of the method of the invention.

Referring to the drawings, we see that 1 shows a dam built on a watercourse and, 2, the reservoir.

The problem posed consists in evacuating the sediments, or mud, which, carried by the watercourse, accumulate on the bottom 3 of the reservoir.

According to the method of the invention, a pipe 4 is used, one end of which comprises a nozzle 5 which can be moved over the bottom 3 and the other end of which opens, downstream of the dam well below the level of the lake, said pipe 4 crossing said dam at a point which is situated below the mean lower level 6 of the lake.

The part of the pipe 4 which extends from the nozzle to near the dam is flexible so as to allow the displacement of said nozzle.

According to one embodiment of the method, the nozzle 5 is supported, by means of a cable 7, by two floating pontoons 8a and 8b. By pulling by known means on the cable 7, from one of the pontoons, it is possible to move the nozzle 5 transversely in the direction X1-X2. Each end of the cable 7 is supported by an arm 9, of the corresponding pontoon, which can pivot so as to move the squeegee in the direction Y1-Y2 without displacing the pontoons.

Preferably, the pontoons 8a-8b are required to move along cables 10 stretched parallel to the edges of the lake, that is to say substantially perpendicular to the dam.

The process of the invention requires very little energy for its implementation. It also allows, by means of pipes extending below the dam, to transport the sediments over a great distance and this without risk of loss by infiltration or evaporation which is very important for carrying out irrigation. '' it is fertilizing sludge, it also allows, if the pipeline has inlet holes 13 near the surface of the lake, to feed, if necessary, reservoirs located below but slightly above the course down the river.

For this purpose, a stop valve 11 can be placed between the squeegee 5 and the orifice 13 for withdrawing clean water which is normally closed by an appropriate valve (not shown) during the de-silting operations.

Of course, depending on the size of the reservoir, several pipes 4, provided with squeegees 5, can be connected to the valve 11.

As shown in the drawings, the part of the pipe 4, which plunges towards the bottom of the lake, can be supported by floats 12.
