Abstract

Device for separating packets of sheets (40) forming a pile wherein the packets of sheets are alternatingly offset to one side and to the other, comprising a lifting table (16) for supporting the pile of packets of sheets and a displaceable separator element (30) which moves reciprocatingly along a top edge of the pile so as to introduce it between the top packet of the pile and the packet which is immediately under and to lift one edge of the top packet sufficiently to allow a gripper (34) to seize the packet. The invention applies particularly to the separation of packets of sheets forming books at the output end of a fast printing machine.
