Abstract

The system uses an electromechanical method for indicating the presence of dangerous abnormal voltages on machines operating on construction sites produced by inadvertent contact with a source of current. The device, shown in the diagram, operates by the activation of an alarm signal when a current is detected. The primary of a toroidal relay 1 is placed in series in an earthing circuit, whose earth contact is provided by a chain 2. When the leakage current due to the contact of the machine with a voltage source passes through the 15 to 30 MA winding, the contact 3 and 1, 9 is opened, cutting off the supply to the relay 4. The contact of the relay 4 drops out, supplying the alarm systems 8 and 9 and the fault indicator 7. These alarm systems may be stopped by the circuit breaker 10. When anything unusual occurs, the fault indicator lamp remains on. The correct operation of the circuit may be tested by actuating the push button 5 which, through the resistor 6, will cause a current to pass through the toroidal circuit, thus triggering the alarm.
