Abstract

The essential constituents of the formulation are of the following types: compound spirit of turpentine, tinctures of arnica and cinchona; eau de Cologne or lemon/lavender oil; d-panthenol; alcoholic extract of ginseng; mucopolysaccharides, tincture of capsicum; various vitamins H, E, PP; and an aqueous-alcoholic excipient containing ethanol and propylene glycol. Other ingredients are matched to the colour and nature of the hair. Use in the treatment of hair disorders (seborrhoea, pruritus, pityriasis) and in preventive action against hair loss.

Description

 The present invention relates to the field of hair products and particularly relates to a new composition, in the form of a hydro-alcoholic solution, capable of ensuring a real treatment of the scalp by acting in particular on seborrhea and pityriasis with, as a corollary, an action limiting on hair loss.

 Hair loss, whether due to age, to a local pathological cause (pityriasis capitis), or to a traumatic cause (attacks by discoloration or dyeing), and whether it is local or generalized following a condition sickly, constitutes a real pathology posing problem to the patient and his therapist.

 In pityriasis capitis, the scalp is covered with dandruff, which first, dry in adolescents and young people, becomes greasy in adults and leads to progressive hair loss. This, first localized either at the level of the skull, or at the level of the temporal regions, or beginning in the two zones concomitantly, can, over the years, evolve towards total baldness.

 In addition to preventive hygiene, various treatments have been recommended to fight in particular against seborrhea such as friction at regular rates using alcoholic lotions based on products such as formalin, quinine, synthetic estrogens, pilocarpine or still compositions containing selenium.

These treatments are sometimes effective but most of them have serious drawbacks. For example, products containing selenium or Jaborandi (based on pilocarpine) are toxic and therefore unusable for prolonged treatment. On the other hand, female hormones, which are often administered, cause progressive feminization in men and are therefore anti-virilizing.

 The Applicant has already described and proposed, to remedy these drawbacks, a new hair composition comprising in particular as ingredients: compound turpentine alcoholate, cinchona and arnica tinctures, ginseng extract, cologne (or lavender or lemon essence), D-panthenol, chondroitin salt or micro polysaccharides; and, optionally, products such as: vitamins H and E, watercress extract and cystine; the excipient used being 90 "ethanol and demineralized water to have a final solution titrated at 65-75 alcoholic degrees (patent published in France under Nu2477411 of March 5, 1980).

 Although such a composition provides very interesting results, as already demonstrated, it has now been found that the characteristics can be improved considerably while avoiding possible side effects, by incorporating into a formulation of the general type mentioned above various other products whose actions also provide synergistic effects on certain other constituents of the already known formulation.

In addition, according to various variants, other ingredients can advantageously be added to the basic formulation. Among these, there may be mentioned in particular: up to 5% (weight) of sweet almond or hazelnut oil for use on dry hair; up to 5% (pbids) of nut husk and / or henna and / or tea extract, in the case of brown hair; up to 10 Z (weight) of chamomile extract for application to blonde hair. Of course, various adaptations can be made according to the nature and the color of the hair as well as the age of the person treated.

 Numerous clinical trials and expert reports have been undertaken on compositions in accordance with the invention and the methods used and the results obtained will be set out below, for example for the composition which is the subject of the above illustrative example.

 We studied a population of 105 adults (57 men and 48 women) between the ages of 17 and 81, suffering from the following conditions: seborrhea (75 cases), pityriasis (77 cases) pruritus (49 zas) hair loss ( 93 cases). The product was used in daily application (morning and evening) with a light massage of a few minutes of the scalp, for a period ranging between I and 3 months.

 By totaling the cases which reacted favorably, results expressed below were obtained in Z of the improvements noted: Pityriasis: 95.6 Z; pruritus: 96.0 Z; seborrhea, 94.9 Z; hair loss: 86%.

 The tolerance of the lotion was judged excellent by all five experimental physicians, only one case having been noted of temporary burns and / or irritations at the time of application, doubtless due to the alcoholic degree of the solution. 96% of the subjects judged the product pleasant to use, the remaining 4% corresponding to cases of hair that were difficult to cope with in the women in question.

 In order to deepen the study of the hair lotion in question on the prevention of excessive hair loss, other series of experiments were undertaken on the 93 aforementioned cases, in particular, by efficiency measures (counting of hair loss and photographic examinations after shampooing and at the end of the treatment), by establishing a trichogram (before and after 2 months of treatment) by tolerance and acceptability tests.

The results obtained can be summarized as follows
The product has been shown to be particularly active in inhibiting hair loss, with regrowth in some cases, in 80 of the 93 cases studied (ie 86% of efficacy). more than 90% of men and almost 80% of women responded positively to the treatment.

Tolerance examinations have proved to be very satisfactory for more than 95% of the cases. Finally, the reliability of the lotion was recognized by the patients, with the exception of a few female cases who had tended to remain disheveled.

 Lastly, toxicological studies carried out before treatment of the patients (in particular by Magnusson test on guinea pigs and studies of cutaneous aggressiveness by repetitive applications for 6 weeks on rabbits) made it possible to verify the absence of sensitizing and irritant power.

Composition for the treatment of the scalp, remarkable in particular for its action against seborrhea, pruritus and pityriasis as well as by its inhibition of hair loss, characterized in that it is in the form of a solution hydro-alcoholic containing (with preferential indication of the percentages by weight per 100 parts of total formulation): Alcoholate of turpentine compound (0.5 to 4); cinchona tincture (0.5 to 2); Arnica tincture (0.25-1.5); cologne (or lavender or lemon essence) at 800 (0.5 to 2); D-panthenol (0.1 to 2.5); glycolic or hydroalcoholic extract of ginseng (2 to 12); mucopolysaccharides (0.1 to 1.5); tincture of capsicum (3 to 7); vitamin H (0.1 to 1.5); vitamin E (0.3 to 3); vitamin P.P (0.1 to 1.5); hydroalcoholic excipient consisting of a mixture of ethanol, propylene glycol and water to have a solution of approximately 700 (complement to 100 Z by weight).  2.
