Abstract
Variable-volume furnace, whose wall consists of panels whose individual framework members alone form the framework of the furnace, and its method of implementation. The invention relates to a furnace, which is more cost-effective to operate and to produce, for the use and control of a large, variable heating volume. The wall 1 of the furnace 14 consists of the assembly of self-supporting panels made from a rigid insulating material 11 and from refractory fibre held on a lightweight metal structure 5 and a gastight insulator 7 placed at a distance of at least 40 mm from the rigid insulator. The fibre at the hot face is implemented so as to avoid the shrinkage phenomenon encountered when using strips or layers of fibrous material. The panels are held by their individual framework members 5 which constitute, alone, the framework of the furnace. This allows, for each baking operation, the shape of the furnace to be adapted to the enclosed geometry. This implementation allows the production of panels which can be easily locally restored, this allowing frequent manipulations. The furnace according to the invention is particularly designed for baking parts of monuments in situ.
