Abstract

Cutting wheel carrier head for a tool for cutting glass, characterised in that the pivot of the cutting wheel is fastened to a fitted component sliding in the head and pushed back by a spring so that, under the effect of the spring, the cutting wheel on its spindle is in normal working position, whereas by moving the sliding component against the spring, the cutting wheel on its spindle is brought outside the head, which allows it to be instantly replaced.

Description

The present invention relates to tools for cutting glass comprising a cutting element in the form of a circular knurling wheel generally made of tungsten carbide rotatably mounted on an axis parallel to the plane of the product to be cut.

The tools of this kind currently on the market consist of a handle, which may possibly serve as a reservoir for cutting oil, and on which is adapted a wheel holder head, in which the wheel is mounted in a slot of the front of the head, on a fixed axis transversely crossing this slot.

When a wheel is worn, or when you want to use a different type of wheel for a specific job, the most usual way is to change the whole head because if in some cases it is possible to exchange wheels on a head, such an intervention requires delicate assembly work, given the small size of the elements, and moreover it requires the use of an appropriate tool.

To overcome this drawback, the invention proposes a tool of this kind in which the head is fixed to the handle on the handle, but includes means allowing the wheel to be changed at will, by means of an extremely simple operation.

For this purpose, the axis of the wheel is fixed to a part mounted sliding in the head, and pushed back by a spring in such a way that, under the action of the spring, a wheel placed on its axis is normally located in the position of work, while, by maneuvering the sliding part in opposition to the spring, the operator brings up the wheel and its axis outside the head, which allows instant replacement of the wheel.

We will describe this invention with reference to the accompanying drawing on which
FIG. 1 is a section of the head of the tool in the working position, passing through the vertical plane of symmetry of the head,
FIG. 2 is a section along II-II of FIG. 1,
- Figures 3 and 4 are similar to Figures 1 and
2, but the "wheel holder is in the" out position.

As can be seen, the head (1), fixedly mounted on a handle (2) comprises a housing (3) for a sliding part, designated by the general reference (4), which can also be called "wheel holder" . This "wheel holder" (4) is in the form of a zipper guided in its movement by the configuration of the housing (3), and normally pushed backwards by a spring (5), bearing, at the front , on the wall of a light (6) of the housing (3), and at the rear on a stud (7) perpendicular to the pull tab, passing through the light (6) and carrying, outside the head, an operating button (8). At its front, the pull tab has a recess (9) defining a small platform, carrying the axis (10) of the thumb wheel (11). The movement has a stud (7) in the light (6) is such that the offset b of the axis (10) of the thumb wheel places this axis inside the housing (3) in the normal position (Figures 1-2) and enough outside to allow the wheel to change in position " exit "(Figures 3-4).

Using this tool is very easy to understand:
In the normal position (Figures 1-2), the spring (5) pushes back the sliding assembly (4-11), the wheel is in the working position as in a conventional head. The operator can therefore use it in the usual manner.

When the wheel has to be changed, either because it is worn and needs to be replaced, or because for a specific operation we have to use another type of wheel, the operator, instead of changing the whole head, nla that by pressing the button (8) to slide the part (4), making the knob (11) appear on the outside of the head (1). it then suffices to take the wheel from its axis (18) and replace it. The pressure on the button (8) is then released, and the whole assembly returns to the working position by itself.

It will be noted that the assembly is not more bulky than an ordinary head, the clearance a = b being of the order of the radius of the wheel, which is very small.

Of course this arrangement can be made to all types and dimensions of heads and knurls. In particular, it can be used for both manual cutting tools and automatic cutting machines.
