Abstract

1. A process for dry passivation of magnesium or magnesium alloy in the divided state characterised in that the magnesium or the magnesium alloy is brought into intimate contact with a corrosion inhibitor in the finely powdered state, formed by a mineral compound whose cation is selected from zinc, cadmium, barium, lead and tin and whose anion is selected from chromate, bichromate, permanganate, chlorate, perchlorate, vanadates, phosphates, fluorophosphate, fluoride, and borates, the contacting operation being carried out in three successive stages : in a dry atmosphere, then in an atmosphere which is saturated with water vapour but in the absence of water in the liquid state and finally in a dry atmosphere.
