Abstract

The process consists in that the stones coming out of moulding or shaping are, after the cement has set, scraped at the surface by means of metal scrapers such as railways. The surfaces of artificial stones which have been scraped and then dried are impregnated with a mixture of black oxide for cement and of iron oxide and then, after a certain time, are washed, scrubbed with metal brushes and rinsed, before the final drying.

Description

The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing molded and / or modeled stones in reconstituted granite and, in particular, to a method for aging this type of stone.

We have long tried to make artificial stones with the appearance of granite, but which are of course much less expensive than natural granite.

An object of the invention is to provide a method for manufacturing such artificial stones which have the appearance of old granite. The advantage of such a process is all the greater since these stones are molded, we obtain directly, or almost, the final shape that we want. In general, the known reconstituted stones consist of crushed granite, river sand and white cement, in order to find, apparently, substantially the constituents of the granite. It is well known that when a block made of such a mixture is molded, the surfaces which are in contact with the walls of the mold are practically smooth and do not have the characteristic appearance of the surface of old natural granite.

On the other hand, they don't have the color either. They are much more like a cement and have little appeal to customers.

An object of the present invention is to provide a method of manufacturing molded or shaped stones, which have the appearance of old granite.

According to a characteristic of the invention, the stones emerging from molding or shaping are, after setting the cement, scraped on the surface by means of brushes, for example by means of metal scrapers, such as those which are known by the name of railways.

Another object of the invention is to give the molded stones a patina similar to that of the surfaces of old granite stones.

According to another characteristic of the invention, the surfaces of the scraped artificial stones, then dried, are impregnated with a mixture of black oxide and iron sulphate which colors the cement, then after a certain time washed slightly with sponge, then brushed with a wire brush and rinsed.

In an example of the manufacture of molded stone intended to be part of a wall, a mortar composed of ground granite, Loire sand and white cement was prepared. A parallelepipedic stone was molded in a plank mold. After a setting time, which can be of the order of 24 hours in winter and 12 hours in summer, the stone is removed from the mold while its surface is still brittle. We leave the faces of the stone which will not be visible in the state they are at the exit of the mold. On the other hand, the face or faces which will be visible are scraped with a railroad or a metal scraper. The scraping carried out when the concrete is still soft on the surface has the effect of blowing up grains of sand which gives the surface a rough appearance. only has the effect of giving it roughness, on the scale of the grain of sand. In other words, the face to be treated may have bumps or
2 hollows of a few cm which are obtained by molding. Once scraped, the stone is put to dry.

When the drying has been carried out, for example for 3 to 4 days, depending on the humidity of the ambient air, a mixture is applied to the surface to be treated dry, for example sold under the name of black "color cement" and iron sulphate, or a dye sold under the name of "color cement" black and ocher.

The patina is left to dry for approximately 24 hours. Then wash the face slightly with water, for example with a sponge. Finally, on the dyed side, a wire brushing is carried out, for example with a normal brush with flat wires, to finish with a rinsing with water. The stone and its skating are then finished.

In some applications, such as the manufacture of troughs, instead of pouring them, we proceed, using a pestle, by stuffing mortar in a wooden, metal or plastic formwork, with a core in the center , the mortar being slightly impregnated with water. The mortar is thus compressed in the mold.

Once the general shape has been given, it is immediately removed to give the final shape of the trough manually, using a spatula or a knife. Once the general shape has been given, the treatment of the surface is the same as that which has just been described.

It should be clearly understood that the designation "stone" used in the present description applies to objects of sculpted appearance of any type.
