On sait que les turbo-machines classiques comportent un étage haute pression et un étage basse pression qui sont traversés par le même débit massique de fluide, lequel transmet ou reçoit l'énergie. En conséquence pour un modèle de turbo-machine donné, la puissance est limitée par le débit volumique maximal à l'étage basse pression, alors qu'il serait possible de faire passer un débit plus important à l'étage haute pression et d'améliorer en conséquence le rendement de la machine. La turbo-machine représentée figure 1 comporte un étage haute pression 1 alimenté en fluide, par exemple en vapeur d'eau, par l'intermédiaire d'une conduite 2. De part et d'autre de l'étage haute pression 1 sont disposés deux étages basse pression 3 alimentés par ledit étage haute pression 1 par l'intermédiaire de conduites 4, la sortie du fluide s'effectuant par des tubulures 5.
