Abstract

In the mfr. of textile articles, partic. tapes and ribbons, which are woven or knitted in broadcloth form and subsequently cut along pre-defined zones to form separate articles, the cutting operation is facilitated by incorporation in the cutting zones several fusible yarns alternating with the standard, non-fusible yarns in the warp, or weft, or both. The fusible yarns are fused together either during a normal finishing operation, such as drying, or in a special heating operation, which may be executed in the loom as weaving is proceeding. The cloth is then divided into separate articles by a rapid, cold-cutting operation. This improves the speed and efficiency of the cutting operation, and gives clean, high-quality edges to the articles which will not fray, and allow the articles to be sewn securely by the edges without further finishing.
