Abstract

The detector includes a photodiode (1) sensitive to infrared connected between the positive supply line and earth via a resistor (2) - for example 10K. The connection linking the photodiode and resistor forms the input point to a series of three operational amplifiers (3), processing the output signal so that it is proportional to the input signal. The output from the amplifier circuit is applied to a buzzer or a warning light. The intensity of the received IR thus controls the volume or intensity of the warning signal produced. The detector is of use in IR therapy to indicate the intensity of radiation applied, since the eye is not sensitive to IR. The detector is arranged to be in the area illuminated by the source used in the therapy.

Description

The present invention relates to devices for therapeutic treatment with infrared radiation and it relates more particularly (because it is: in this case that its application seems to be of most interest), but not exclusively, the local stimulation devices. used in acupuncture and auriculotherapie, of the kind in particular of that which is the subject of the French patent application N0 78 09388 filed March 23, 1978 in the name of the Applicant.

We know that devices of this type generally comprise, mounted inside a suitably powered manual probe, a diode capable of emitting a beam, coherent or not, of infrared rays, this beam being applied discontinuously to the chosen location of a subject's body in order to obtain the desired local stimulation.

Experience has shown that excellent results are obtained in this way by suitable handling of the transmitting probe by the practitioner. It should however be noted that the human eye is not sensitive to the infrared spectrum, this practitioner can be hampered by the impossibility of knowing in a simple way if his device is in good working order.

It is to this practical drawback that the present invention intends to remedy, which consists mainly in making the therapeutic treatment apparatus envisaged comprise an electronic detector, the sensitive member of which is disposed at the level of the external wall of the apparatus considered, of so as to be able to be subjected, when desired, to the radiation of the treatment probe and to emit a signal intended for the information of the practitioner.

In accordance with a preferred embodiment of the invention, the sensitive member of the detector consists of a photodiode adapted to the wavelength of the infrared and connected to the input of an amplifier stage in order to emit an output signal suitable for controlling a light or sound device.

The appended drawing, given by way of example, will allow a better understanding of the invention, the characteristics which it presents and the advantages which it is capable of providing.
The single figure of this drawing shows the diagram of an embodiment of the detector fitted to a therapeutic treatment apparatus established in accordance with the invention.

In this diagram, reference 1 designates a photodiode which can be assumed to be of the OPTRON OP 500 type, connected between the positive pole of the supply circuit and a resistor 2, for example of 10K ft, connected to ground. Photodiode 1 is mounted in the carcass of the treatment apparatus so as to be able to be subjected to the radiation emitted by the manual treatment probe, connected by flexible conductors to the aforementioned carcass.

The detection stage thus formed is connected to a stage 3 for controlling and shaping the output signal emitted by the photodiode 1. In the embodiment envisaged, this stage 3 comprises three operational cascade amplifiers, suitable for allow an output signal proportional to the input signal to be obtained.

This signal is sent to an output jet comprising a resistor 4, for example of OKfl, and a signaling member 5. In the envisaged embodiment, this member is constituted by a buzzer of the buzzer type, but it goes without saying that '' you can use a light bulb. Of course this member 5 is connected to the ground of the circuit in order to be suitably supplied.

It is understood that when the practitioner intends to check the correct operation of the device, he directs the treatment probe on the photodiode 1 so that the latter is subjected to infrared radiation emitted by said probe. This photodiode generates a signal which, through the stage 3, controls the member 5 which thus warns 1 operator.

It goes without saying that various modifications to the scheme described above can be adopted. Thus, in particular, stage 3 can include electronic means capable of bringing into play detection thresholds below or beyond which there is or is not control of the output. The electronic diagram is furthermore capable of being arranged so that the information emitted by the device 5 is modulated as a function of the specific characteristics of the infrared radiation.

It should also be understood that the foregoing description has been given only by way of example and that it in no way limits the field of the invention from which one would not depart by replacing the execution details described by all other equivalents.
