Abstract

The device is in the form of a tube made from a fibre reinforced pliable material, such as latex, with a funnel at its upper end. The funnel is cylindrical at its top and conical at its base. It has a transverse wall across the top pierced by a hole which is coaxial with the tube and having a dia. close to that of the inner tube dia. The transverse wall gives the funnel sufficient rigidity to remain in place without causing pain to the patient, the hole allowing the passage of food through the tube to the stomach. The lower end of the tube is not reinforced in order to given max. suppleness and comfort. Two rings of radioscopically opaque material, one in the transverse wall over the funnel and the other forming a ledge at the lower reinforced end of the tube assist the endoscopic installation of the device.

Description

The present invention relates to an endoscopic esophageal prosthesis.

It is known that certain esophageal tumors result in completely blocking the esophageal passage.

When these tumors cannot be removed by surgery, it is essential to place a prosthesis in the esophagus, in order to allow the patient to feed.

Already known for this purpose prostheses consisting of a tube provided at their upper part with a funnel used both for anchoring the prosthesis and guiding food to the tube. Such prostheses were initially placed surgically, but are increasingly installed endoscopically. They are specially made of flexible synthetic or natural materials, possibly reinforced with fibers.

The funneling part of these known prostheses raises many problems. Indeed, if the funnel is too rigid, it causes pain to the patient and the prosthesis risks being driven upwards, by wedge effect, by the pressure of the tumor. If the funnel is too soft, it is crushed by the tumor and may fall towards the stomach. Finally, such a funnel is subject to clogging since it opens into a tube of smaller diameter.

In this case, only surgery can unclog the funnel.

The object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks. It makes it possible to obtain a prosthesis whose funnel is not obturable and at the same time sufficiently rigid and flexible, on the one hand to cause only the minimum of pain to the patient and on the other hand to stay in place.

To this end, according to the invention, the endoscopic esophageal prosthesis comprising a tube provided with a funnel at its upper part and made of a flexible material, possibly reinforced, is remarkable in that said funnel is closed by a transverse wall. , pierced with a hole coaxial with said tube and whose diameter is close to the inside diameter of said tube.

Thus, said funnel is no longer subject to congestion. In fact, any food passing through the hole in the transverse wall can pass through the tube and reach the stomach. If a food is too large to pass through this hole, it is stopped by said wall and rejected towards the outside by vomiting of the patient. In addition, said wall gives transverse rigidity to the funnel, so that it is possible to make it so that it is flexible enough not to impose pain on the patient and to remain in place, without risk of crushing or ovalization.

The rigidity due to said wall can be reinforced by the installation of a ring of a radioscopically opaque material, useful for the radioscopic control of the endoscopic positioning. In addition, the shape of the funnel can be studied to minimize releases by wedge effect. To this end, the funnel may comprise a substantially cylindrical part on the side of the wall, connected to the tube by a rounded conical part. Preferably, the substantially cylindrical part may have a slight conicity opposite to that of the consecutive conical part, so that the funnel has the approximate shape of a cognac glass.

The prosthesis according to the invention can be produced in a single piece of a flexible material such as a latex. It is then advantageous for the tube to be stiffened at least in part by a reinforcement, for example a helical polyamide wire. In order not to be traumatic, the end of the tube opposite the funnel is not reinforced to be as flexible as possible. This end can taper outward.

Preferably, in order on the one hand to prevent the retraction of this flexible end towards the reinforced tube and on the other hand to provide another radioscopic reference for the endoscopic positioning of the prosthesis, the latter comprises a second ring of radioscopically opaque material between said end and said tube. This second ring can form a slight projection relative to the rest of the tube and said end.

Of course, the prosthesis according to the invention can be produced in different diameters and different lengths.

Likewise, the tube can be straight or, on the contrary, anatomically shaped.

The figures of the appended drawing will make it clear how the invention can be implemented.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the prosthesis according to the invention.

The prosthesis according to the invention, shown by these figures, is produced in a single piece of a latex. It comprises a tubular part 1 surmounted by an enlarged tulip 2 and extended downwards by a tapered part 3. Only the tubular part 1 is reinforced by a helical winding 4 of a polyamide thread.

The tulip 2 comprises a conical part 2a for connection to the tubular pallet 1 and a conical part 2b having a small conicity of direction opposite to that of the part 2a.

At its upper part, the tulip 2 is closed by a transverse wall 5, pierced by an orifice 6. The orifice 6 is coaxial with the tubular part 1 and its diameter D is close to, and preferably at most equal to, the internal diameter d of this tubular part.

In the wall 5. is incorporated a ring 7 of a radiopaque flexible material. Similarly, in the vicinity of the junction between the tubular part 1 and the tapered end part 3 is incorporated a second ring 8 of a radiopaque flexible material. The ring 8 forms a slight protruding bead 9.
