Abstract

The electromagnetic blocking device includes an electromagnet (3) whose armature is attached to a right angle bracket (5). A spring (4) around the armature urges this bracket outwards. The free end of the bracket is arranged to engage in a slot (19) cut into the bolt (7) of the lock, between the lock and the retaining plate attached to the door frame. If an incorrect key is used to operate the lock, the key is allowed to rotate through a quarter turn, thus bringing the slot immediately below the bracket. The spring then urges the bracket into the slot preventing further movement of the lock or the lock cylinder. The key may not then be removed until an appropriate connection is made to the electronic circuit which controls the electromagnet, allowing the armature to be withdrawn.
